Darren McCarty Progress Thread

People who are talking about him coming back this year need to get real. He might look healthy and fit in the IHL but in the NHL its a whole different story. I severely doubt he'll regain NHL conditioning by the end of this year.

I thought about it too, but is it really that unrealistic to say that he cant get his skating up to a level of....I don't know Aaron Downey.

For the record though I don't see him in the Winged Wheel this year.

The thought of a D line- Downey, Drake and DMac has me DDDrooling.

Seriously, at this point we have no idea what he might be like if he came back. It is like last summer when everyone was ready to throw Kronner on the next train out to Anywhere because he wasn't producing in the NHL. I argued that his Olympic play, World MVP and AHL play during the lockout (Eddie Shore award and lead the team in points) were all good indicaters for great potential. People thought that was all irrevalant because it wasn't NHL.

Now we have Mac in the IHL. All we can judge is whether or not the potential is there. We can't measure him by the rest of the NHL because he's not playing in the NHL, but we can look at how he's doing compared to the level he is playing at.

I don't see him getting it back in time to sign with us, or if he does, I don't see him getting a lot of ice time, barring injuries (knock wood for no injuries).

I don't count him out for next year. Not by any means. Right now, it's all up to him, and he looks like he's giving it all he's got. Make it or not, you can't ask any more than that from a man. Best of luck, D.

I am hoping somebody posts it on YouTube, I am going to be looking for it, I would love to see it again. It was great. It was almost a replay of when he turtled Lemuix, it rocked. The entire Perani Arena lit up, people were going nuts. I'm going to be looking for it myself, if I find it, I'll post it.

I do have some pictures of it though, but they are at home. I'll post them tomorrow.

The fight was at the far end from me. I saw Mac take the first swing, saw the guy go down and turtle then there was a jam pile of players and officials. The Kalamazoo player got up with a battered face.

And to the previous poster(s) who mentioned the Grinder hat, I don't know when that picture was taken that they repeatedly use for the blog articles, etc. but I can tell you I've never seen him where it during his stint here in Flint (the Flint Stint...heh).

Good to hear that it is an old picture. Glad to see he really has ditched them.

TO be honest I would emotionally love to see Mac back but realistically it is more for next year than this year I think.

From what I read Forsberg only wants about 2.4 million per season. That's very reasonable. Add Sergi and you've got a deal!

I'd much rather have McCarty over Drake or Kopecky. I'd welcome his return if he decided to, and hopefully, the Wings give him a shot if he deserves it.

I'd hardly say this is dead in the water. All the signs point to momentum increasing. What with the papers and Holland saying McCarty should treat the Generals like training camp and that he should be readyu to move up to the Griffins soon.

I really like the sound of this - now that he's with the Griffins, doesn't this mean we can call him up whenever, even after the trade deadline? The hell w/ making a trade, let him get a few games in and then get him up here! I really think this is going to happen!
