Darren McCarty Progress Thread

Actually the Joe has the 3rd largest capacity in the league, behind only Montreal and Chicago.

That's what makes it so funny when the Wings don't sellout. This season, they've averaged an attendance of 18,000-19,000, which is still far and beyond more people than a sellout at a variety of other arena's in the league (Boston, Nashville, NY Islanders, etc). So, technically, the Wings are still drawing larger crowds than other teams in the league (by default of course, since they have a bigger arena).

Good for D-Mac. He's still a long way from being a regular NHLer again, but if he can at least secure himself a regular spot in GR that will be a big step up from where his life was at 12 months ago.

Amen to that, brother.

(I had to read this entire thread from start to finish so I would feel better after reading that Jordon frikin Tootoo thread)

Not to rain on the parade, but Mac wasn't a very effective NHL player when he last played, and that's putting it kindly.

I agree but, I think Holland said it best in the article:

I asked Holland how he’d judge whether McCarty had something left to contribute to the Wings and he said: “One is passion and focus. That’s what made Darren McCarty. Near the end of his career he lost his passion and focus. (Another) question is going to be speed.â€Â

He is no longer with Grinder so his focus is back where it needs to be, and he is trying to get his life back on track for himself and his family, there is the passion. I think we are going to get the Mac back that we all love. The one that has been away for many years (even a few years before he left Detroit). I think the prodigal son is returning.

It is going to be great seeing him get behind the wheel again.

 i know the mighty foul were bitching about how they were selling out their (14,777) arena and that we weren't selling out.... nobody seemed to get the weird replies i would give, like.... "Okay, so what? get 4,000 more fans and come back and talk to me"

Hope make does a fine job in GR. If he was younger would say give Saginaw or Plymouth a try 'cause i will never see him anyways over on the left coast.

I'm glad to hear that they are taking a good long look at him. I really hope that he is able to make it back. It would be great if he could do it this year but if not hopefully we will see him playing in the NHL next year.

Good luck Mac.

That's great news.

The Griffins will give a lot better indication of where his game is at, and take the next step in conditioning. There's no way Mac would crack the Wings lineup this season, but who knows for next year in the Drake/Downey slot. It's a longshot, but crazier things have happened.

This is exactly what I'm hoping for. I see Drake retiring after this year. Mac can easily bring at least what he does if he can get back into shape.

That'd be great. McCarty would actually be an upgrade over Drake right now, but since I don't see that happening, I'm pinning my hopes for next year.

couldn'y they sign him to a contract with the Griffs and then be able to bring him up in somebody gets hurt before/during the playoff run? Mac would get a couple of months with GR and be able to get closer to "NHL". I'm not saying that he's going to come in and kill it but man it would be so great to watch him take some "penalty" tough guy minutes in the playoffs against te Ducks/Sharks/whoever! !

As I understand it, if he is offered a contract in GR, he could be called up in the event of injuries. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

We all asked who he would replace. I guess the answer would be Hartigan.

That said, I don't want to see any Wings injured.

I have not been on in a while. But there is no better way to return than this thread. When I found out about such I went nuts. I really hope that Darren can get back with the Wings and if not, I just hope he can get his life back to the way it was.
