Hiei 192 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Howard played BEAUTIFULLY. I really think we may have to break the ZDH Line....but you could put Homer's big butt + Sammy's GlassBreaker shot + Hoodlum and you might have a decent line.

Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Smartest post i have ever heard Lidstrom for Pronger. i say why not? they are practically playing at the same level this year. Fair trade both teams win. *wakes up from dreamland*

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Jimmy Howard played a solid game (I'm sure many will want to anoint him starter after this one game). The defense was better. Not great, but better considering the lineup. No surprise, the problem is scoring. When's the last time this team has scored an even strenght goal? Plus I wanted to choke all of the forwards as the game wore on. Everyone making cute passes instead of firing the puck at the net and crashing it. Dats, Flip, Homer... all passed when they should've shot. Crash. The. Net. I thought it was the playoffs from two and three years ago. Lots of perimeter shots, none from high scoring areas. Few players around the net for ugly goals. I guess the good news is that it isn't the playoffs. There's still time to figure this out, and hopefully pick up a big forward who will help the problem. Guest octopusdank Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Guys come on... the majority of you are wings fans... and, if you truly are, how about you stop whining... no amount of whining will take things back. How about you look, realistically, at what happend today... 1) The defense was much better all game 2) Goaltending was solid 3) The offence lines were much better (at both offence and back-checking) And now, the things wings need to improve on: 1) I'm sorry, but I truly believe we need our top line (dats-Z, Homer) together all the time because no one else can truly shut them out all game (and at the end when they were finally put back together, they dominated a few plays). So back together I think they should and will go 2)Powerplay: wings had a little trouble getting into the zone and set up... and are still trying to be a little too fancy with the puck... (except for Sammy) SHOOT the PUCK! But, keep in mind, the powerplay will be better when Kronners and Rafi return (Rafi tomroorw; Kronner's Friday) 3) I think the Wings need to work a little more on clogging up the neutral zone like they did so well all season, which will help limit shots from the other team, and alow them to go back to playing their puck possession 4) Injuries have hurt wings, but with most guys returning this week, we will be alright... but this tells us some younger guys NEED to do a better job... See, you do not have to rag on the wings, they know their pros and cons.... and all we need to do is identify them too, not all of a sudden hate them.... man wings fans are spoiled.... Anyways... tomororw Wings will win... their defense was fixed today, and tomororw their offence will be fixed... GO WINGS! awesome dude this definitely the best way to approach this. could not be more on point with 1,2,3. im not disappointed today at wings, granted i missed the third period so i might of missed something, but they but up all around good effort today, we came out and played, you know what im saying? it cant get any closer at 1-0, and how about JIMMY!! i love his goalie sense, i think he'll be a brick wall someday. i havent read the rest of the GDT, but if people are whining, shame on you and, i disagreed before on this message but, quit being whiny *******. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 oh, and Pierre McGuire continues to be a total douchebag. I don't know what problem this guy has with the Wings, but his bias is ridiculous. Stu Barnes takes a penalty on what was essentially a slew foot. I think they called it tripping. And good ol' Pierre goes on about how he can't believe they called it and he's seen much worse in the game. Then Zetterberg gets a really marginal call, where his stick hits a guys foot while it's in the air, the guy goes down, he gets called for tripping. So Pierre admits it was a soft call, but said it was a good call because the NHL has a zero tolerance policy these days... I can't stand the guy.

sinbin 3 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 I told my wife my prediction....I was right......give up on the puck possession system.... the teams know how to play it...Jimmy will be in Detroit next year.......see ya Dom...... the boys played with heart but no confidence.... we should have won this,3-1.......take this as a step in the right direction.......Dallas is on a roll! Is Sergei here yet? We got the Avs! 3-
wingnut40 176 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 We played much better today than the past week. This seemed like a regular loss and not an epic fail. I think we will win tomorrow.
Yemack 1 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) oh, and Pierre McGuire continues to be a total douchebag. ... I can't stand the guy. really? cause pierre mcguire is one of very few that I have no problem with. Although he is very biased and maybe consider himself too smart, I think he looks at the game pretty fairly. He doesn't watch Wings game all the time so sometimes he doesn't know what hes talking about (too many generalizations) but I could agree with him for most part. Anyway I think we put in nice effort and played well. Also had couple very good scoring chances in a 1 goal game so it looks like it's definately turning around but of course it's always frustrating to watch your team lose. I thought our line juggle worked quite well for first part, also nice to see Drake starting to play noticeably better as of late. Im slowly starting to see why we picked him up. Anyhow, Wings have a game tomorrow so I don't have to wait 1-2 days to watch wings game again. Edited February 18, 2008 by Yemack

Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 You really don't think McCarty will be with the Wings by the end of the season, Matt? Nope. Babcock's system is built on speed and tenacity and McCarty doesn't possess both of those qualities. You can get a pass during the regular season (Downey, Ellis) but you won't see the ice in the playoffs. The Wings rely on a shift-after-shift relentless attack (though that hasn't been present lately). Besides, I'd expect the team to pick up at least 1 more forward prior to the deadline via trade and it won't be a player that would see the pine. I honestly don't expect Hudler to see the ice much after the 1st round if the Wings advance that far. --- As for today's game, the effort was definitely there out of the gate. But I think it was very obvious that the team was getting frustrated when chances weren't going in -- Kopecky's shot off the post and Datsyuk's pair of pseudo-breakways -- considering they were getting better ones than Dallas. They got an outstanding effort in goal from Howard and couldn't capitalize on it. They were noticably deflated when Hagman gave Dallas the lead early in the third.... and the beat goes on. Obviously this team is missing their injured players very much (Cleary more than I think people admit, just for the little things he does).... and for the "ain't broke, don't fix it" talk I was hearing on the Detroit sports radio last week, well -- they're getting a refresher course on depth in light of injuries AGAIN to the team's No. 2 and No. 3 defensemen. IMO, the onus is on that scoring forward had tough defenseman. I'd love Sundin and Stuart, but those will likely be some HEFTY price tags... I can dream though, right? Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Yes, Pierre McGuire was beyond annoying today. I was kind of surprised how he and Milbury were beating the "Holland has to make movez!!" drum during the 2nd intermission. While I agree with their point that the Wings need to keep up with Anaheim (who, right now, is the Cup favorite IMO), I'm not sure how Dallas, even with the win today, is in the class of Detroit or Anaheim in terms of playoff chances. IMO those two clubs are above the rest, with the second tier consisting of Dallas, San Jose and Minnesota.
