Round 1: Wings vs. Predators

even though the Red Wings are tops in the league, im still going to be scared until i see these two hook it up starting thursday.

i wonder which Red Wings team is going to show up this playoff run, the team that plays down to its opponent and has shaky goaltending, or the one that dominated the league for almost half a season and pretty much couldn't be stopped no matter what. biggest concern for me is which Dominik Hasek shows up starting thursday.

How is this "official"???

There is still one game to play for the final few teams....

The Wings have clinched the #1 seed, and the Preds clinched the final spot and with the loss tonight the Preds are stuck at #8 no matter what. Therefore it equals Wings vs. Preds.

Alot of people have already declared we will destroy the Preds. However, this series will be alot closer than alot are predicting. The Preds have played us tough this year, and if we fall asleep, they can take advantage. As someone who follows the Preds, here's some keys to watch out for.

-First and foremost: PLAY PHYSICAL! The Preds were shut down by SJ the past few years because the Sharks manhandled them physically. Fight for every puck, and make them fight for every inch of ice.

-Dan Ellis has played brilliant at times this year. However, he has also been horribly inconsistent. If he gets any confidnce early, he could be the man that steals the series. If we get a bunch of quick goals, he can get rattled.

-Watch out for Jan Hlavac. He's been one of the hottest Preds lately and he's settled in nicely with Bonk and Erat.

-Match the Preds intensity, especially when they're at home. They feed off their crowd, and if the Energy line (Fiddler-Nichol-Tootoo) gets a few big hits, Wings need to respond with some big hits or a quick goal to take the fans back out of it.

-And last but not least, avoid stupid mistakes. The Preds WILL capitalize if you give them a quality chance. Play smart, and don't rush any plays.

Not a bad draw for the Wings. Although of course I'm nervous whomever we play. Just wasn't looking forward to Calgary again in the first round...

Nashville lost Vokoun, Forsberg, and Kariya, but is playing us tough of course. Key I think will be to get an early series lead and not fall behind....Hasek must return to playoff form...

Side notes - how the f*&&% do the Avalanche get lucky and avoid the Wings, Sharks, AND Ducks in the first round??? They don't deserve that as a lower seed. Here's to hoping they wind up in 5th or 7th after Sunday.... <_<

Also, I blinked and the Caps went from 9th to 3rd overnight. Awesome if they beat out the Canes for the division title - NO southern teams in the Playoffs :yowza: !!! (not counting Nashville as deep south) A victory for the NHL.

I'm just worried that Tootoo is going to take out one of our key guys, Pronger style. <_<

I don't think that'll be the case, and if it somehow is there WILL be hell to pay. Downey, Drake or Mac *if he plays* will take care of the punk.

I actually would have wanted to play calgary because i know mentally it would have made the wings feel like they should play at the top of there game. But they better not take Nashville lightly or we will be out faster than a bowl of jelly beans being devoured by an ant eater who has a strange craving for sweets. Anyhoo I'm hoping we sweep them.. but I'm gonna go with Wings in 6.

Tootoo is a penis. He won't fight those guys, and I honestly can't understand why everyone still thinks he will. While there is some truth to Trotz troll not allowing him to fight, he's still a wuss.

Just remember: if Downey drops the gloves, and begins raining blows upon him, two things would happen, one good and one bad. One, the good, is that I'd run out to Hockeytown Authentics in Troy and buy a Downey jersey immediately after it happens, and Downey would be a national hero in the city of Detroit. Two, though, is that he'd get slapped with the ridiculous instigator penalty's that the NHL stupidly refuses to get rid of, and it'd probably end up helping Nashville in the long run.

Tootoo is playing in an NHL that, for some reason, likes to cator to the agitator: the ******* of the league that run around, cheapshotting guys, yet their gloves seem to be mysteriously glued to their hands whenever someone comes in looking to fight them. If the NHL got rid of the stupid instigator rule, guys like Tootoo, Downie (Steve, not Aaron), Burrows, Cooke, and a couple others would be extinct in this league, and probably go play in Switzerland or something. But it hasn't happend, and at this rate, it probably never will.

Hopefully an anvil falls on Tootoo as he's walking out of his house (or should I say igloo?), and he's out for the playoffs, but I doubt that happens. We'll probably have to find a way to deal with his antics some way or another, and hopefully guys like Downey and such are up to the task.

I totally agree with you man. Its like no matter who our opponent looks to be everyone is scared. When you play hockey growing up you are taught to RESPECT your opponent but do not be scared or take them lightely. Nashville might play us strong, and yes, Ellis is played great hockey. But I have no doubt in my mind that our boys will come to play they hockey that they can play and take this series. In either 4 or 5. And please dont give me that karma crap!
