McCarty: "I'm not going to put up with Tootoo"

“I just let him know I was there,’’ McCarty said. “I’m not going to put up with him. They got a couple of guys that play that way and that’s fine. … You’ve just got to try to neutralize them as much as you can and play as hard against their guys as they do against yours.’’

what is he really going to do, though? Downey didn't "put up" with Tootoo either but if that opportunity arises for Tootoo to behead someone, he's going to do it regardless who we have dressed. At this point in his career I'm not even certain I like DMac's chances against Tootoo in a scrap... I think it would be closer than some expect. I liked the idea that Drake might be able to gun him down and give him a taste of his own medicine open ice, but judging from game 1 that's gonna be pretty hard... Personally I'd like to counter with an energy line of Drake, Abdelkader and maybe Draper... get on their D a bit

Why would you chant for a fight? Mac did pretty much neutralize him w/o fighting! There's a skill that's rarely seen in hockey. If you just want to watch a fight why not turn to UFC or summin?

Neutralize? Tootoo had a few big hits and scored their goal. He was very effective in that game.

Aww, how cute - he thinks he's still a tough guy, lol.

When I read the quote I took it as hes not going to fight with tootoo, and was kind of disappointed he would come out and say something like that. And then I saw all of your thoughts and felt much better.

No lie.

Tootoo doesn't care, he didn't care when he jumped Robidas in that Dallas game, and he probably will never care anytime soon.

I'm all for McCarty still standing up to him and all that stuff obviously as it still does have an effect.

At least Tootoo is showing that he has some capability of putting the puck in the net and not acting just like a cheap-shot punk like he does sometimes.

I think he had like 3 hits - I just didn't hear his name much other than the incidents with Mac and other than the goal he didn't seem like much of a factor for one game so yeah, in my mind he was neutralized for the most part.

Hopefully the refs will feel the same and let you break some heads today!!

Come on D-mac Jump over the refs... BREAK HIS HEAD!!!

Yeah i know what you mean... I being in the crowd you lack the announcing of the names and I swear i hardly ever saw him out there... only got 1 pic of him actually.

The time i remember him out there... he pwned the pain train... quit fitting actually that the whistle (TooToo) delivered the hit against the Pain Train.

And tootoo is? That's funny, I thought he was just a little ***** who probably shouldn't even be in the league at this point since he's obviously a scumbag.

Me as well...hopefully he'd kick his ass but after seeing Mac against McIver its not out of the realm of possiblities that Tootoo could actually win. I think we could see anything from that to Tootoo turtling and deciding not to fight back at all... probably for the powerplay, or even just for the hell of it cause thats what pests do. It would be totally up in the air i think. I'd like to see the Wings build up a big ol' lead today to really jumpstart some hatred between the two teams.

The fight will never happen. Tootoo won't fight. He will cross check you in the face after the whistle then run away and hide behind the linesman. It happens all the time. The only way to get him to stop is to do away with the instigator penalty.

Now that is something that D-mac provides that Downey doesn't.

I am not saying it is a positive or negative attribute of the person, but Downey doesn't really run his gums in the media, sure after he takes care of business he may say something. I believe that trait is called humility, which I am a fan of.

But on the inverse side, Mac has just planted a seed in Tootoo and the rest of the teams head. Now Tootoo will focus some energy on knowing where Mac is all of the time. And what ever energy he focuses on Mac is not on the game.

Again not knocking Downey as a person, personally Humility is high on my list of people skills I look for in people, however in this instance a little brashness in the media may help, may back fire, but I think it will help!

It's best to have a loud mouthed instigator (McCarty) and a tough player with great timing and humility (Downey). I like them both and think they both contribute a lot to this team. McCarty riles the other team up, and Downey doesn't take bad-timed penalties.

I really think that someone had to do this. I am personally kind of happy that Mac did it because he is the hometown hero. Guess I will watch the game and see if he comes through or not.
