Time for a new captain?

There have been some questionable threads following the Wings' losses the last two games, but this is undoubtedly the stupidest. :nono:

I cannot afford to waste minutes of my life reading the entire thread - but looks like thankfully noone agrees with you.

Let's take a quick quiz:

How many Norris trophies does Lidstrom have on his shelf?

What was the Wings' record with Lidstrom out of the line-up this year?

How many times had the Wings been to the WCF since 2002 before Nick was made Captain?

Who led the team in points in last years' playoffs?

What other Captain can you think of that led by example with his on-ice play?

Shall I continue?

Apart from playing goalie himself (see Sharks game 6 last year) there is nothing Nick can do if we have a complete sieve in net.....Wings fans should be proud we have such a Captain.

basically....

stupid thread.

wow have these losses really gotten to people. Yeah I"m nervous, but not so much as to say that it's time for a new captain or that Holland should be fired. I think that they are in good hands. Have some faith!!!!

Go Red and White!

i don't need to read a single post of the 3+ pages, just the topic. thats enough for me to conclude that ANYONE THAT THINKS ANOTHER CURRENT RED WING DESERVES TO BE CAPTAIN MORE THAN NORRIS NICK LIDSTROM IS A ******* MORON.

nothing personal, but tis true.

/concur

Hell no, I'm with Nick for life man. Don't put down the best players we've got now.

There are two types of leaders:

1) those who lead by communication ... which we may need but we don't know what Nick's doing in the locker room and we can't hear him from our family rooms or bars..

2) those who lead by example... Lidstrom is a lead by example guy, guaranteed on the ice. We already know from HEARING other players talking about him that when they watch Lids play their confidence goes up.

since we are talking about this... I love Mike Babcock. If anything EVER happens to him I'll take a fit. Of course nothing would ever happen but, just saying.

I think it might be time to give the C to someone like Chelios.Someone who is more vocal and can get this team more riled up.We all know nick is more of a silent leader and its not working. The captain aloso needs to tell people like Samuelson and Flip to stop being passengers and make something happen.Cheli or Drapes would make a better captain, hell even Cleary.

...uh, no. Perhaps the greatest Captain in professional sports was a asilent leader, he lead on the ice, Steve Yzerman. Lidstrom is about the closest thing to Yzerman this team and league has... Sure Draper or Chelios would make good captains, Chelios has the experience, but not better than Lidstrom...

...btw, Flip does need a slap in the face, but Sammy has always been and always will be a passenger on the Swedish to Detroit Express...

Just because Lidstrom is a pretty passive guy in his day to day life, and when you see him in an interview, doesn't mean he's a wuss!

There is a reason he has that C on his jersey. Lidstrom has worked for the respect of the officials, opposing players, his teammates, and us as fans. And he deserves every bit of it. You don't think that he has a word for consideration when there is a meeting of captains and refs, c'mon?

No offense to the person who started this thread, but I think your a little off base!

Although the OP made some interesting points, I have to agree with the majority in that Nick is the best person on the team to be wearing the C--no question.

However, I'm just going to throw this out there: There has never been a team who won the Cup with a European captain. So if we are in the finals and its game 7, it might be a good investment to throw the C on Rafalski, Lebda, Cheli, or Draper for one game.

That's why we'll be the first.

First European born/trained Hart winner? Fedorov as a Wing.

First European born/trained Selke winner? Fedorov as a Wing.

First European born/trained Pearson winner? Fedorov as a Wing.

First European born/trained Norris winner? Lidstrom as a Wing.

First European born/trained Cup winning goalie? Hasek as a Wing.

First European born/trained Conn Smythe winner? Lidstrom as a Wing.

Noticing a trend here?

I am not concerend with the lack of leadership. We have a solid TEAM. We have a good mix of stars, veterans, and young guys. The veterans like Chelios, Maltby, Draper, Homer, Rafalski, Drake, Ozzie, and Dom all have the respect of the locker room and all will open up and rip on the team if needed. Nick is the leader, but those vets have enough experience to stand up and say what is needed to say without getting shunned by the rest of the team.

i only read the first couple posts, but i'm going to weigh in anyway.

this is the single dumbest thread i've ever seen on any website. i visit 4chan from time to time too.

Then you'll understand what I mean when I say:

Yeah, let me take this opportunity to remind people:

Your impressions of players shouldn't be based simply on what you see in an interview, hell -- even what you see on the ice. Leadership and character happens at practice, on the bus, in the locker room, in the hallway, whenever.
