Game 4 blowout to lure Brunnstrom?

I don't know if I would say that... think in terms of next year and near future, if he goes to a team where he actually gets ice time, he could get more money in the near future where as if he goes to a team where he gets little or no chance to prove himself, how much of a bump is he going to get, if any.

Another question is; does he see himself as a person who can make a team "great" on his own, by carrying it all on his shoulders or does he want to be part of a great team, where he shares the responsibility, ice time and glory?

This can go both ways - if he comes to a team with talented players they could make him look better and increase his bargaining power. Look at Brendan Morrison in Vancouver - Bertuzzi and Naslund made him look like a superstar...

Hey guys, I don't see any postings on this but does anyone think Holland and Babcock pushed the Wings to try to run up the score? I mean, a player that the majority of the NHL is tying to sign was there to meet the team. I think that may be why the Wings didn't slow things down after getting up by 3 or 4 goals. What does everyone else think??

Not at all, hockey is a game where you HAVE to kick a team when they are down. Run up the score as high as you can. You let up and play defensive bad things can happen.

Once I saw him in the paper I thought how last night's game could not have hurt the Wings chances in the sweepstakes.

Brendan Morrison's point totals in Vancouver was a reasonable upgrade based on age and experience over his performance as a Devil. Realistically, Morrison is the guy who gained the least from that line being put together, largely because he was the only one of the trio who ever played defense. Bertuzzi is the guy who gained the most, as he never even came close to that kind of dominance without the other two. Morrison was always a good two-way center, before, during, and after.

Prolly pissed him off to find out that Wings fans could only give him the nickname Brunns, Brunny or Bruno. He was looking for something a little more creative. But, no can do.

What is the max salary possible in the Swedish Elite league? Or Russia? Or any of the European leagues?

Is the draw to the NHL based on it being the best league?

Because I would think unless this guy is going to be a 100+ point player, and garner top 10 salary, the money would probably be better for him in Europe where the league would like to hold on to the top talents they have. Just a thought.

I'm not saying he's going to sign because of this one game, all I'm saying is that the guys may have been trying a bit harder since he was in attendance.

If the Wings' focus on the Cup is so little that all it takes to boost their effort is the presence of a potential recruit, we're going to be a sorry and grieving bunch of fans sometime real soon.

Fortunately I doubt that's the case.

Go after Malone - he's exactly what we need...

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer

Cleary - Franzen - Malone

Maltby - Draper - McCarty

Fillpula - Kopecky - Downey/Ryno

Lidstrom - Rafalski

Kronwall - Ericsson (if Stuart is gone)

Chelios - Erskine

Osgood / Howard

My lineup for 2008/2009

Go watch the interview with him on TSN.ca. It's pretty obvious that the parading and guarantee-seeking are all a function of his agent, who's trying to cash in as big as he can. In the interview it's pretty apparent that Brunnstrom is tired and frustrated with the whole charade. He even said he's ready to work to earn an NHL roster spot, and that he's not sure he's NHL ready. Brunnstrom is an athlete. He wants nothing more than to put all the politics behind him and get to playing.

Yea I was impressed with his interview. He seems like a down to earth and realistic guy, which is different from what I've read about him.

Honestly, I want this kid on our team, even if he is on our team. The main reason is Mike Babcock. If he does happen to choose us, you know Babs is going to make him earn his minutes. It's not like Grigorenko came over and made it right on the team, no he didn't even get a whiff of the NHL. Now we don't REALLY have any top end scoring prospects in our system other than Mursak really, so he could help us out.

Brunnström didn't like the city of Detroit...

Some quotes from a Värmlands Folkblad article:

"Everything is just that much more professional and bigger and better over there. I've always wanted to live in the U.S. and play in the NHL. Visiting there just confirmed it for me."

"I've already told Färjestad that I'm signing for an NHL team and they wished me good luck. They wanted me to stay and they really deserve credit for being so good to me."

"It's hard to pick a team, there are many factors to consider. At least I've learned a few things from my visit."

"There's really not much to add, other than that Dallas and Montreal are better cities. In Detroit no one lives in the city, it's totally abandoned there [laughter]. Everyone lives in the suburbs and only go downtown for baseball and hockey games. So city-wise, Detroit isn't much."

"I got to meet Scotty Bowman and Zetterberg and Lilja and the other Swedes. I got to see Lilja's house."

Everytime Malone steps on the ice I want him in the winged wheel a little more. This kid is going to be a great asset, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Pens offer Hossa or some one else big money and not have enough left to sign this kid. He is grinding, pk playing, very solid, young kid and he is hopefully going to get better from here. The wings could definitely use him.

I happen to notice in your lines you got rid of Helm and Huds in favor of Downey and Maltby, Man I loved the grind line too, but that line is not what it once was, neither is Malts, hence his Playoff minutes.

Apparantly he will make his decision by tommorow.

Not questioning your truthfulness here but where did you hear that?

Out of curiousity.

If anything, that blowout against the Dives will scare him away, because he won't get the top line minutes he desires (and apparently demands) here, like he would in some loser team like Toronto.

On a side note, because it's almost like a LGW unwritten rule, this important bylaw must be stated at least once in this thread: Brunnstrom is lazy and he sucks™

There, that's better. :)

from the Globe & Mail.com.......

............On the Fabian Brunnstrom front, Fletcher said that former Leafs legend Borje Salming placed a call to try to convince the highly sought-after Swedish free agent to sign with the Leafs. Brunnstrom, 23, is expected to make a decision this week and has reduced his short list to the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars and the Leafs.

"He has a choice to make," Fletcher said. "He's narrowed it down to four teams. The other three teams have been far more successful than we have this past season. But on the other side of the coin, we probably offer the best opportunity."

Fletcher also reported that he expects to meet with Mats Sundin, who is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, early next month in Toronto about the possibility of continuing his NHL career with the Leafs next season.
