Official: Hasek announces retirement

QFT. Ozzie/Howie will be the tandem next year.

And farewell Dom, there will probably never be another goalie like you. (I mean that in a good way).

It will be a good tandem, and I'm hoping that Howard pushes and gets 25-30 games so we can really see what he is capable of. If he only pushes twenty, I don't think that gives Ozzie enough rest during the season and Howard doesn't get the work he needs for the organization to determine what they have in him.

I don't have to say much, do I? He's my hero, and always will be.

I love the Red Wings organization for recognizing his contributions and treating him with such respect. He's more than earned it.

If Dom is content, then so am I. It's all I ever wanted for him.

Please don't stop posting here Loo! We've all watched our heroes retire over the years but most important part of the jersey is the logo on the front.

No chance of that, Marcus. Remember, I have some experience with Dom retirements. ;)

I think perhaps he may really mean it this time, though. Way to go out a champion (again) Dom! It's time his family got to have some time with him. I think Dom may have finally gotten to the place this season, where he can accept that it's time to relax and enjoy the accolades for his accomplishments in the NHL. Dom's changed the way the game was played in his era, and there will never be another one like him in the NHL.

One of a kind, my spectacular goalie!

Do you guys know how friking boring some of these games could be without Dom? When you're winning 5-0 and the opposition has a break away, you will never see a goalie come out and launch him head over heals...EVER!1!!

Dom is totaly bats*** and I'm gonna miss every minute of it. :(

A legend, through and through.

Glad that he will be able to finish his career a Red Wing, and with a Stanley Cup to celebrate with as well!

even though i totally expected this to happen...its still a bit weird to see he's finally calling it quits.

especially the last two years he has made me extrememly nervous when he played, but his style was his very own, and in this year's playoff he proved to be a real team player and go out on top.

Hasek has truly done it all.

I was hoping Hasek would retire. I hated to feel that way, because Hasek's done a lot for the team. I think it would have made for another awkward goalie setup if he'd stuck around another year. Can't keep Howard backed up in a logjam forever.

Thanks are in order from Red Wings fans to Dom. The guy won us a Cup, and make no mistake - he was absolutely crucial to this one too. He played excellent during the regular season.

So here's to the Dominator. We're lucky, as Wings fans, to have had one of the greatest goalies of all time suiting up for us.

It leaves one question - will Franzen reclaim the #39?

Indeed. Thanks for everything Hasek!

I own more Hasek jerseys (3), than I do any other Red Wing except for Yzerman (4). It will be bittersweet for me to see him go.

Phrase most overheard at my house during Wings games he is in..

"No, Dom... NO... DOM... OMG! YES DOM! WOOO!"

Haha.

You all know what I'm talking about.. heh.

My cap is off to Dom... Bravo, well done. The Dom & Ozzie show was a blast to watch this year. I was at the last regular season game, and I remember thinking to myself "I wonder if I've witnessed Hasek in his last regular season game in his career?"

Thanks for everything Dom!

Just one questoion though, was it just me or did it seem awkward with Dom during the postgame celebrations and parade?

Not to me. Dom was really good about it IMO.
