Who is gonna be the best steal in the offseason?

I am gonna have to say Hossa. I think that if he goes anywhere other than Pittsburg it will be huge.

Who do you think is gonna be the biggest steal??

How exactly does Hossa fall into the category of steal??

In my book, a "steal" means you sign a guy cheaper than everyone else, or you sign an underrated guy who ends up performing way beyond expectiations. Maybe if Hossa signed for less than Datsyuk, itd be a steal. But otherwise, no.

I could see a guy like Liles getting around 4M and then out of nowhere putting up huge numbers.

Agreed. I think Hossa will only be a steal if he decides to stay in Pittsburgh for less money. Otherwise I think he's going to get a crapload as a free agent.

Ya, an 8 million dollar "steal". He might put up close to 100pts if he finds the right team/linemates/coach/situation but he definitely won't be going anywhere for anything remotely close to a bargain.

Nusland will be the biggest steal if he leaves Vancover, hes been under acheiving there since bert left and if he can find the right team, he could put up 80+ pts

Naslund. I dont believe he will be, but someone might give him a decent contract and Markus might put up good numbers again.

Commodore on defence as well, he played great for Carolina the past 2 or 3 years, I could see him going somewhere and having a good year.

I agree 100%, I said it in another thread that if Nazzy ends up in Detroit he will get 30 goals, he plays for the most boring coach with the most boring style in Vancouver. Watching the Canucks since Crawford left has been less successful and 10 times more boring!! He could be had for 4- 4.5 million a year I would think!!

No. Naslund is the one thats boring. No defense, mediocre numbers, and 13 hits in 82 games. Robert Lang can make some fancy moves too..

Antics aside, the first name that came to mind was Sean Avery. He might end up being a decent off-season pick-up for someone.

He'll be a nobody.

Liles will be an awesome defenseman in the coming years. Whoever locks him up long-term gets a steal.

Naslund could be one of those re-invented players.

If Sundin goes somewhere cheap, he'd be a steal.

I agree with a few others here, Rolston will be the biggest steal, and I hope we get him.

Why do you think Sean Avery would be a nobody?

Look at the way he got into Marty Brodeur's head. That's not something most players, if anyone, could have done.

Avery is far from a nobody. He was one of the Rags best players in the playoffs, and he was on pace for about 48 points and 22 goals had he not gotten injured, which wouldve put him at two nearly 50 pt season in a row. Hes a talented player who doesnt get the credit because everyone hates him so much. If his ego ever got downsized a bit, hed be a great asset to any team.

Isn't Rolston asking for at least $5 million? If so, I don't think that's "steal" material. Jokinen for Ballad and Boynton is more along those lines, imo.

Ive heard different rumors. One is that the Wild are lowballing. The other is that the Wild have offered him 2 or 3 different contracts and he hasnt counter-offered at all. Speculation says he doesnt want to return with the Wild and is demanding a number hes knows they wont give. Todd White was his best friend and center on the Wild and he was pissed when White got traded away, and then griped about how his line couldnt form any chemistry during the year, and Lemaire didnt do anything to experiment.

I think he'll lower his offer to be on a contending team or a promise to be paired up with a talented center. He'll probably take something like a 3 year deal with a cap hit of 4-4.5M. Hes 35 or 36 right now, so I could see his numbers being structured like so:

1st year: 5.5M

2nd year: 4.5

3rd year: 3M

for a cap hit of around 4M

Honestly, I'd love to have Avery back on the Wings. He plays a good game and brings a great deal of energy to his team. Unfortunately, he is gonna get extremely overpaid.

You guys must have a different definition of steal than I do. Avery, Rolston, and Hossa might be good signings, but they definitely won't be steals.

Ray Emery has the potential to be steal for someone. He's not going to cost much at all, yet he still has a lot of talent. Yes, there are character concerns, but with the right team structure, those can be mitigated.

He is my problem.

What makes a person a steal, is if they are going to exceed for that team in what they need him for.

Impossible to tell before we know what team they end up for.

I think Streit and Liles are the best bets, but they need to find the right team.

a guy like avery doesnt belong in the wings...i like him as a player, but he doesnt have the right character for the wings...to be a wing, the team is all that counts for you, i dont see avery playing like that, and i dont see avery working well with kenny or mike (or rather following instructions), in a situation where he disagrees with the situation...
