Taylor Pyatt 1.575 M

Assets

Has a good combination of size and skating ability. Is a sound body checker. Defensively aware, he also displays flashes of offensive ability.

Flaws

He lacks the consistency needed to play a top-six forward role in the NHL. Struggles in the hockey sense department and doesn't use his size enough.

Career potential

Big-bodied, underachieving winger.

Your wish is my command....LOL. Last year's salary indicated.

Travis Moen: 925 K

Scouting Report

Assets

Has good size and a sound work ethic. Possesses team skills and is a solid role player. Kills penalties with aplomb and adds toughness to the lineup.

Flaws

Lacks natural talent, so he tends to struggle in the National Hockey League when given too many responsibilities and extra ice time.

Career potential

Physical, checking winger.

Stephane Veilleux: 862.5 K

Scouting Report

Assets

Has good size, defensive instincts and the ability to play a physical game. Also owns some offensive upside and can play both wing or center.

Flaws

Could use more bulk for his 6-1 frame, since he isn't a naturally gifted player. May be a limited offensive contributor in the big league.

Career potential

Checking line forward.

Chris Gratton: 1.25 M

Scouting Report

Assets

Has a great combination of size and two-way savvy. Displays decent hands and a mean streak. Is solid on face-offs and sound defensively.

Flaws

Has questionable hockey sense, which limits him in the scoring department. Isn't as complete a player as his package suggests.

Career potential

Checking line forward.

Jason Ward: 700 K

Scouting Report

Assets

Works hard every shift and knows how to take care of his own end. Doesn't mind playing a crash-and-bang style. Is a quality teammate.

Flaws

Doesn't own top-end skating ability, which hurts his level of production. Has had trouble finding his niche in the NHL. Is too inconsistent.

Career potential

Checking line forward.

Manny Malhotra: 1.5 M

Scouting Report

Assets

Is an accomplished defensive forward. Has good size, speed, leadership qualities and face-off ability.

Flaws

Has not met offensive expectations. Lacks both confidence and polish in the offensive zone. Is somewhat prone to injury.

Career potential

Checking center.

Marcus Nilson: 1.0 M

Scouting Report

Assets

Has sound checking ability and plays with tremendous energy and grit. Uses his body effectively and is incredibly versatile in defensive situations.

Flaws

Is not a big goal-scorer, since his hands are below average. His work ethic has led to plenty of injury trouble throughout his NHL career.

Career potential

Checking line winger.

Brad Isbister: 650 K

Scouting Report

Assets

Possesses a tremendous physical package and plenty of pro experience. Is effective in the corners and can play either wing position if need be.

Flaws

Has not been able to shake the tag of chronic underachiever. Doesn't use his size nearly enough to maximize his offensive game. Misses too many chances.

Career potential

Reserve winger.

Tom Kostopoulos 900 K

Scouting Report

Assets

Likes to play a north-south game and is strong along the wall. Defensively responsible, he's also a great leader in the room.

Flaws

Has limited scoring ability at the NHL level, and doesn't do enough in other areas to see regular playing time in the big league.

Career potential

Fourth line winger.

Pyatt was a whipping boy in Vancouver.

Pyatt was a first liner in Vancouver and scored 20 goals even though his primary role on that line was to be a big, physical body and to play solid defense. He lost his spot after suffering an injury early last season, and then going on leave due to his fiancee's death in March.

Pyatt with Franzen and Hudler would be an excellent line, even if Pyatt's main role was to be defensively responsible with a big body. Pyatt's presence alone would open space for Hudler and Franzen to create wicked offense.

We don't need Bertuzzi.

Instead, we need someone who's willing to pay pack for hits to his teammates, and isn't afraid of hurting someone in the process.

I don't think Bert fits here either... but we do not need a one dimensional goon, that seems to be all you ever mention... we need a player that will go through a wall for teammates AND doesn't take stupid penalties or hurt his team when he's out there and play more than 2 minutes a night... once again, a goon

I would KILL to have a Milan Lucic here, but that's not an option... so we need to find someone who can keep people honest, while still serving a role, not a Hanson brother...

We need a big tough Canadian kid because I am tired of seeing the Wings pushed around. What about George Parros, isn't he available.

I can't believe that Mcarty and Downey aren't going to get resigned.

LOL

Isn't Parros American?

I want a one-dimensional goon on the team, just so posters here can go crazy and irate over such a player being on their beloved, classy (soft) Wings. :hehe:

As far as Bertuzzi goes, he may be too much of a goon even for my tastes. I mean come on, the guy f**ing crippled a player for crying out loud. You can't get any more goonish than that.

If this is a joke then I apologize but c'mon, it was once, he didn't have a rep for crippling people and he's been a standup guy ever since. He made a mistake. He's definitely not a goon.

Let's just look at it from across the table-if we wanted a knock down drag out kickass goon.....we'd be disappointed with him.

Goons are Chris Simon, Chris Pronger, Boogard, most of the Ducks lineup, etc. Not Bert.

Come on GMR, if Lilja crippled someone with his bare hands you'd be jumping with joy... :D

Has Tyler Arnason signed anywhere? He made like one and a half mil last I saw and is a former 50 point scorer on a pretty blah Avs team. I'm not sure of the grit factor but he might not be a bad signing if we can't retain Hudler.

Arnason signed with the Rangers.

Pronger is not a goon, since he can't fight and is a great player. Likewise, Simon always had talent.

A true goon is someone who has no talent other than fighting. I'm one of the few posters here who wouldn't mind seeing a true goon on the team, because I'm realistic enough to understand that an enforcer isn't going to score lots of points.

Come on GMR, if Lilja crippled someone with his bare hands you'd be jumping with joy... :D

He would have if half the guys he fought didn't grab on for dear life.

Any of Moen, Bertuzzi, Bell would be a good addition with great upside playing on the Wings

Some lesser, cheaper options for the 4th line... Andre Roy, Tom Kostopoulos...
