Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Malik says with Lilja on LTIR and with Bertuzzi at 1.5mil, we have about $260,000 in capspace, whats that pro-rated at the around the trade deadline?
CAredwingsfan91 28 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Lets hope he plays like he did in 2002 i still remember that back hand he had against hasek when Bert roofed it over his glove, beautiful shot hope he pulls more of those of this season
Lidstrom for life 20 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 I'm going to be optimistic about this so....YAY!! I have no problem bringing Bertuzzi on board, my biggest concern is: will this cost Helm a roster spot? Cause then I would be pissed.
sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 I know kenny is all about depth and veteran leadership and whatnot but how long do helm and leino have to sit in GR before they get a shot to make a career out of their abilities? williams and now bertuzzi? they both had their shots with this team and stats aside, i remember NOT winning cups with them. I feel the same way about howard. I hope jimmy sees 25+ games this year. and prospers. IDK time will tell. I would have liked to have seen a few mil saved up for a decent deadline acquisition, to sort of jumpstart a cup finals bound team. you know, like a corey cross. Based on how long? If Lilja misses the entire season the Wings would have $779,345 in cap space for the deadline. Pro-rated, that comes to a player with an annual salary no greater than roughly $3,896,725. Keep in mind that number doesn't include other LTIR players or call-ups. To answer your question, $260,000 pro-rated would end up being roughly $1.3 million.

Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 No, it wont. Helm will be up full-time. I really hope that you are right! My lines for upcoming season: Z - D - H (only way for Homer to be effective) Leino - Flip - Franzen (I think that Bab's will at least try Leino with Flip on the same line) Bertuzzi - Helm - Cleary (hard hitting 3rd line - very interesting one) Eaves - Draper - Williams (not sure about this one but it would be our 4th line) Maltby 13th forward
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Bertuzzi is lazy player and a defensive liability. Awesome signing. NOT.
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 To me it looked like he never really fit into our style of play that well. He's not a good skater and doesn't play the kind of hockey our other players do. Guys like Helm and Cleary are more physical than their softer counterparts on the rest of the roster, but at least those 2 players both have great speed. Bertuzzi doesn't. GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Bertuzzi is lazy player and a defensive liability. Awesome signing. NOT. Just think of it as a bigger version of Jason Williams. Better to be a has been than a never was.
stevie12 5 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 I just can't wrap my mind around dishing money out to these grinders (if you will) when last season we fully found out that our defence was the area of concern. I know that we lost a lot of fire power with Hossa, Sammy, and Huds gone, but some of the boys in GR could have easily stepped in. Even with those losses we would still have strong lines up front. Now with Lilja on the LTIR, have we really addressed the issue on the backend? Is Osgood and Howard really a desirable combo? Just my opinion.
newfy 695 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Bertuzzi is lazy player and a defensive liability. Awesome signing. NOT. Bertuzzi is a tough player and huge. We can't have all Selke trophy winners on our team. He'll put up at least 40 points if he doesn't miss a good chunk of the season to injury so stop complaining. I am not complaining, just watching him last season was good enough to convince me he is a completly useless player who takes A LOT of stupid lazy penalties. Jaymister 71 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 I really hope i'm having a nightmare right now. This guy is nothing but trouble on and off the ice and he hasn't been the same offensively since the whole Moore thing. He's not going to put up anymore the 50 points and for me that's just not worth the risk. We already have one of the best up and coming power forwards in the game in Franzen and Holmstrom is still doing his thing too. I just don't get this one, it's like we're trying to relive past mistakes this summer, first Williams and now this disaster. God help us.

esteef 2,679 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 (edited) Don't fret friends, all you have to do to feel better about this signing is put the lgw patented "specialist" by his name and he suddenly becomes excusably useful. Observe: Maltby = "PK Specialist" (see! isn't that fun!) Draper = "Faceoff Specialist" (oooh! Awesome!) Williams = "Point Shot Specialist" (yee-haw!) Bert = "Grit Specialist"? "PP Specialist"? "IR Specialist"? You decide! Have fun kids! esteef Edited August 18, 2009 by esteef
finalfilppula 2 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Fighting for a spot in the NFL? Dude, what are you smoking? Schenn played last year in the NHL at 19 years old and was on the Leafs top D pair. This kid has a much higher ceiling than Zetterberg has. Could you imagine our D with Kronner, Stuart, Rafalski, Lids, and Schenn... that would be amazing. Our forwards with Garbovski would also be stacked and we would probably lead the league in goals due to the explosiveness that Garbovski would bring to the team. ... And Garbovski doesn't have injury problems like Zetterberg does. Burke might not even accept the trade due to Zetterberg's known back problems. Can you be the GM for my new team? I'd like to champion a new philosophy where the team should lose every game. OF COURSE Schenn played on the Leafs' top defence pairing; that team was so depleted in talent that they had no choice but to.
Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Bertuzzi is lazy player and a defensive liability. Awesome signing. NOT. Thank You .. we tried this once and it did not end well.... Why are we bringing back guys who bolted faster than greased lightning at the 1st day of FA. He must not of liked playing here cause he did not give us a chance to re-sign him a couple years ago... So he's here cause no one else will sign him. oh what the f***. kenny, what are you smoking?! Im not sure but I think he has a prescription for it....!!!!! TheSupafly 50 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 What's the worst case scenario for your team if Bert doesn't work out in one way or another (injury, sucking, etc). 1.5M cap hit? I see lots of potential upside. I'm not saying that he will realize that potential, just that it's there. I think the possible positives outweigh whatever negatives that could come from it...and I don't see a ton.

Chelios57 31 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 If you take the time to think about it there's really no downside... Defense, injury. Ok, maybe sometimes, but at 1.5 for a player of his potential. Also, I'm totally biased because I've always been a huge fan of his. (Although I do believe my points about him are correct).

Does that mean he didn't give the Wings a chance?
