Mike Babcock for Coach of the Year

I know, I know... we are only 34 games into the year. Even though LA, Colorado, etc, have all been excellent, but with all the injuries and if they keep this up and possibly in the end win the Central. If Babcok isn't the coach of the year, then I will be p'ed off.

I'm so glad we have the best coach in the business! Great Job Babs!

I honestly don't know what Babs will do without Z. With him he always had the luxury of spreading the offense, even if him and dats were on the same line. Now all teams have to do is contain dats and the offense is pretty much f***ed. Good thing the secondary offense has picked it up :)

I expect detroit to be dominate again in about a month when they get flip, williams, big E, kronwall, helm and Z back (and cleary?). If they can stay competitive in the meantime Babs has a good chance to win coach of the year.

edit: LA and COL will cool off, still making the playoffs but not way they stay tops of the conference.

Ironically, this may be Babcocks best chance in his career to win a Jack Adams. Because of the flawed way its judged by voters (like MVP), it doesn't go to the best coach, it goes to a coach of an average team thats had an above average season, or made a late rush to get into the playoffs. It rarely goes to the best coach or the best team.

In 35 years, the coach of the Presidents Trophy winner has won it a meagre 7 times. Pat Burns has won more Jack Adams (3) than Scotty Bowman!!(2) Pat Quinn and Jacques Demers have also managed to win 2!!

Mike Babcock will never have a better regular season than 2008. His team were a machine from start to finish. 1st in points, shots against, goals against, shots taken, 2nd in goals scored, despite having literally half the team injured for a month. But apparantly that didn't make him the best coach in the NHL that year.

The last Presidents Trophy coach to win the JA was ironically the great Joel Quenville in 2000! :D

As much as I would love for him to win it he probably won't even be a finalist. Honestly, I think it should go to dave tippet for the job he's done with the Cyotes which is far more impressive than the explosion the Kings and Avalanche have had. Rather than young players having breakout years he took a team dipped in mediocrity and made it dangerous because of the structure he built his team upon.

This will be his best chance to get it. He should in my opinion as of right now. But Tippet, Saco and Murray have done good jobs too so that will be tough. It always ends up being who was the team who ended up better than we though or than they were last year. It should be who did the best he could with what he had. And Bab's is doing that right now.

Just a week ago half of you were saying we needed to fire him. You people must be bi-polar or something.

More likely it was about firing McCrimmon because Wings' defense had more holes than Swiss cheese.

Babcock won't win it, but LA's coach should. Maybe even the AV'S coach!

Yeah. Babcock has no business winning coach of the year. You also have to take into consideration the Eastern Conference. I don't know who you'd give it to there, but just saying, Babcock hasn't done anything yet to stand out. Maybe if he can win the cup without Zetterberg and Datsyuk...

Er, a week ago the Wings were in the middle of their streak of 27 complete PKs.

People still wanting to fire McCrimmon are out of their minds; Wings' PK has gone 37/39 (94.8%) in the last 12 games.

Todd McLellan never had that kind of pk i dont believe but he also did not do near as bad as mccrimon had been doing

Homer vote goes to Brent Sutter if the Flames finish a 1 or 2 seed. Phaneuf and Regehr were not compatible up until this year. The Flames appear to actually have some intensity compared to the team under Keenan.

It's a long shot but like I said... homer vote.

The Jack Adams is pretty unpredictable. Tortorella won it in 2004 with the likes of Lecavalier, Richards, St. Louis, Knabibulin, and Boyle. Darryl Sutter coached a $35M team featuring Jarome Iginla and half a season of Miikka Kiprusoff into the playoffs for the first time in seven seasons.

The league doesn't reward a coach of the Wings. He deserved it in 08 and somehow a panel of old men decided that BRUCE f***IN BOUDREAU was a better coach. Yeah, ok.

This year is just proof they were wrong. We've been raped by the injury monster without so much as being lubed up out of courtesy. And look what Babcock's done. Make no mistake, this is character and coaching influence coming through. He knows exactly what to say to get a player going and how to motivate a group. He's the goddamn master at that. If he doesn't win, it'll be a travesty. Joe Sacco's club is coming back down to earth, any other team with half our injuries is sulking and playing like s***. For so many years we had our coach snubbed because of the logo on our jersey and our roster. Now without that roster, let's reward the coach who was screwed out of the award previously.

Murray and Tippett are both doing very well but those are two ridiculously underrated teams, who aren't playing with half of their AHL roster.
