rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 (edited) wings cant afford him people! after signing eaves we have 3 roster spots left .. two forwards and one dman, assuming we sign abby and helm and bring in a 6/7TH dman... our roster isfull...so unless you want to lose abby or helm for... MODANO... it wont work! Right, so Detroit just brought him to Detroit to watch a ball game then? Wings4Life19 150 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 my guess would be that eaves is on his way out if modano signes. Helm Abby draper are for sure on the team, ritola has to much upside, and miller is to valuable for the pk if he goes. I know that eaves is just as important on the pk but other than that modano would be more valuable this year than him

I know that eaves is just as important on the pk but other than that modano would be more valuable this year than him I am guessing something a bit different. Modano signs, more than likely Ritola or Miller are out. I feel as if Eaves brings a little more to the table than Drew. Love both of their games and they are quite similar I feel in the time Patty played he was just better. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
StayClassy 38 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 I actually could see Eaves being the one to go, he really doesn't have a whole lot more upside than Miller a this point, and I think we could get a little more for Eaves in a trade than Miller too. I don't really agree though that Miller was all that better on the PK though.
Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 The scary part is..... If we do sign modano... It puts and end to all the speculation but, I will have to deal with all of the trade miller, trade eaves, trade cleary(lol) threads.... Sigh.... Put for my two cents I hope he does sign.... He would make our third line a 1-2 punch with a bet presence.... Instead of a crash and hope you get the puck to hudler so he can score line lol....
HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 trade miller, trade eaves, trade cleary(lol) threads LGW will shut down before those threads ever go out the door. I somehow feel like those threads would be like cockroaches. Even with the site gone those threads would still live. 1 Lidstrom for life reacted to this

Then you move Miller and Meech, and we'd be $500-600K (depending on what we spend on Abs, Helm, and a d-man) under cap, right where we want to be. I don't really like the idea, but it does work. LeftWinger 5,130 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 Isn't Mike Modano the highest scoring American born player EVER? I think he has even more points than Brett Hull. My point is, Brett Hull came to us when he was 37 and played here until he was 39. He NEVER had the wheels Modano HAS. He was pretty one dimensional (until he came here, and he was still sub-par defensively.) How bad did that work out? Listen guys, like I said earlier, he is not here to be our savior, so that right there is lifting a lot of pressure off of him. Even last year everyone in Dallas looked to Modano to win games for them, he couldn't do that from the 4th line leftwing position! He will have a more important role here sure, but he has a hell of a lot better top 6 ahead of him than he did in Dallas, plus the prospective line-mates of Cleary and Hudler is gonna give him tons of assists and energy as well. He still has a great shot, it may be too much to expect from him, but given enough time on the PP and if he and those guys click, he may end up with 20-25 goals and 30-40 assists. Heck, Brett Hull scored 25 goals and had 43 assists in his last year here, and that was while he was 39 years old. Guarantee with all the line juggling Babcock does, Modano will find himself playing with Dats or Zetts a few times this season too. This is a win win situation for all involved (well except Dallas, when they eat crow watching Modo raise the Cup.) I seem to remember Larionov wasn't too shabby at 41 years old in 2002 either, especially in the playoffs. And who was that guy, what was his name? Oh yeah, Chelios, he was also 40 in 2002, and played very well for a few more years at least. Just cause the guy is 40, doesn't mean he cannot play, when Yzerman was 40, he played in 61 games, scored 14 goals and had 20 assists, all with a bum knee, a lot of times playing 3rd line center behind Dats and Lang, would you guys take those stats from Modano for $1.5M? SIGN HIM UP! 12 Hockeymom1960, Yzerman191, ilmickeyli and 9 others reacted to this
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 Note, only 41 games to 1500 for Mike, 42 to be eligible for the Cup. He could leave 40 games for the youngsters, if that is what you are worried about.

Maybe Lebron would give him some airtime tomorrow night to give his answer. Lebron could then drag his announcement out. I mean if he were trying to drag it out this would help him. Then after he's done, LeBron and Kovalchuk join the stage together to announce they're both going to New Jersey.
