Why is Cleary still on the team?

Who honestly is optimistic something is going to happen when Cleary has the puck opposed to the other players? I've been known as a Cleary hater, fair points, but he needs to be pushed out of the lineup. When Helm comes back, and possibly Eaves... Nyquist NEEDS to stay, Abdelkader's presence is needed in the playoffs, Miller has more goals/pts than Cleary with LESS ice time and no PP time. So who do you move? To me the answer is Cleary, I'll be shocked if he's offered a contract. You could also say Holmstrom, but he is needed as a PP specialist especially in the playoffs.

Edit; I wouldn't be shocked if they brought him back.

Could say the same about Holmstrom & Conklin as well. Possibly Emmerton..although at least he hustles.

Yea but Conks was demoted to the AHL so that answers that one. As for Holmstrom he really is a 4th liner and used to be a great PP guy. This season not as offensive but he does serve a big purpose in front of the net.
I don't hate Cleary I just hate his game right now.

I hate Cleary, it's not a secret on LGW. I think he isn't worth his money and needs to be shipped out. However, it's more than hate now... all he does is skate slow and fire horrible blue line shots straight into the goalie without any screens. That or he's lazy and dumps the puck in straight to the other team instead of skating it in a bit more to make sure it goes to a teammate. It's like every single time he gets the puck I know NOTHING will come of it. Nyquist took his spot in my book, he actually gets me out of my chair a little bit, and he's flying around out there.

Can't really see how helm or eaves factor into your argument as neither really have a timetable for their return.
Helm has an MCL sprain, he'll be back early 1st round probably.
Eaves is a long shot, but hopeful thinking... a RH shot would be nice. Mursak still overrides Cleary in my book. His speed and forechecking would be useful.

Zactly. I don't know what's wrong with Cleary - he goes from a near-record season shortened by injury to a complete bust - but he's been like this the whole season. That's just too much of a slump for a 3rd line guy. I don't think we owe him anything as far as loyalty goes, so I think it's time to cut ties. I hate to say it because I really thought he had something going last year that would carry over, but something's just not the same with him, and it's not getting any better. If he could turn it around, that'd be great, but I don't see that happening. If the rest of our team was really gelling, I might just give him another season to get it together, but we obviously need to make a few changes, and he's Exhibit 1A of that, unfortunately. He's brought absolutely nothing to the team this year.

^ Exactly; put more eloquently than I said it. You're correct when you say he brings nothing to the team. We have leadership, and we have grittier guys: Helm, Abdelkader, Miller, Mursak, Emmerton. What does he bring anymore guys? Scoring? Nyquist. Enough said.
He needs to go, he's bringing the team down. Taking ice time from better players like Nyquist, and what will happen when Tatar is ready next season?

I'd still ride him over Mursak at this point.

A 100% Cleary is great to have in the playoffs... I just hope we see it, somehow.

I feel like Emmerton at 100% is better than Cleary at 65%.
I believe that Gustav with no experience at 85% is better than Cleary at 65%.
Even worse is there are nights where Cleary is at 40%.
He can't be on any line in this shape. I would tell him to go get checked out, have any surgeries that are needed and if they have to wait, he can wait on the bench and get better as a spare.
I am starting to think Jokiam and Tatar are a better call then Cleary right now.
As for Cleary in the future? I would say he can make the team the same way he did before. Small contract, fight for the time. I would rather not give up on kids for Cleary when I know how he plays when he slows down.

Tootoo does NOT belong on this team. He is classless and I would rather see the Wings be bad than classless. I feel the same way about Bertuzzi as well, but he at least CAN make the team better. With Tootoo the team becomes worse and in danger of being classless. Would you have liked Claude on the team? Or Roy? No. So why would you be okay with that POS.

Contractual agreements come to mind.
I guess you could always track him down and finish him off.
Then youd probably complain about the next hobbled up guy on the team and finish him off
After a while we wouldnt have any Red Wings cause you finished them off too
Then youd complain that we didnt have a team.
That would suck for everyone.
Dont make it suck for everyone.

Whatever the reason for Cleary's downfall, if his play is hurting the team, he needs to be sat.
....cause we have a huge surplus of healthy scratches every game.

We do now that Franzen is back.
What's the point of playing a guy who seems to be hurt and is only hindering the team? Just call up another guy from the minors if need be to take his place.

Well cause Howie and Joey ARE NOT on LTIR so that hampers the plan with calling up extra guys.
