dats13owns 157 Report post Posted April 1, 2012 Looking at today's game against the Panthers, I just thought that I would bring up our old friend Mikael Samuelsson. While he wasn't popular around these parts and not much to look at, I can't help but appreciate what he brought to the Wings. He was a solid third line player who had a nack for scoring big goals and showing up in big games. I never disliked him and never understood everyone's hatred for him. I would totally take him over Cleary, Homer and hell, the whole fourth line at this point. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=37626 3 P. wingnut40 176 Report post Posted April 1, 2012 I never totally understood the Sammy hate either. For all his logo hunting and shinguard assassinations he was pretty solid maybe even clutch. I just always liked him. 1 P. Marlowe reacted to this

dats13owns 157 Report post Posted April 1, 2012 Maybe he's going to audition today to be a Kenny Holland reclamation project :-).
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted April 1, 2012 It's almost a guarantee he'll score against us. Sure is, most likely on a weak wrister from the left wing half-boards that narrowly misses half a dozen shin-guards

shoe 165 Report post Posted April 1, 2012 Sammy is a winner I don't care what anyone says I think he makes teams better. I'm a believe he is a good part of what is going on in Florida this year. 1 55fan reacted to this
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted April 1, 2012 The Shinguard Assasin. I used to ride him all the time. But when he was at his most dreadful, and I was bagging on him mercilessly, that's when he was always come up HUGE. He did it in OT versus Chicago in the playoffs. He did it Game 1 2008 Finals versus the Pens. He was clutch, but he was Lang clutch. "Why the f*** is this bum on the team?...... ZOMG!!! THAT'S WHY!" 1 55fan reacted to this
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted April 1, 2012 Honestly Sammy used to drive me nuts while he was here because of his shot selection. But he scored big goals and was a bargain for the Wings.
achildr1 255 Report post Posted April 1, 2012 I have no idea how I missed him being called the "Logo hunter/Shinguard assassin". That's awesome and perfect for him.

wings1110 184 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 I gotta think we could easily have an enforcer or at least someone tough that could still contribute more in other aspects of the game than ******* emmerton and mursak. That being said we could also insert a traffic cone, a monkey, or a Jason williams over them.... 1 xBflinker reacted to this
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 I'll take the traffic cone or the monkey, but please not Jason Williams 2 Namingway and b.shanafan14 reacted to this
MabusIncarnate 5,344 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 I never really minded Sammy, and he would be a viable solution to fill the Holmstrom hole if he does decide to retire. I'd take him back as long as it didn't cut into precious cap space to bring in a big name player during the offseason.
Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 I'll take the traffic cone or the monkey, but please not Jason Williams I thought Sammy was solid when he was here. But when we had to watch Jason Williams a couple years ago I thought Sammy was the best player in the world, haha.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 if there was ever a Wings player who had worse shot accuracy than me, it's Sammy. he could hit everything around the goal, but never the goal itself... brutal, simply brutal
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 The 2007-09 Wings who went top four three years in a row were quite a deep team. Just think of the third line of Hudler-Filppula-Samuelsson that could be a great second line now. And players like Zetterberg, Franzén and Hudler had bargain contracts so Holland was able to afford the likes of Hossa and Rafalski.

If they allow Nyquist on the team next year (I mean how could they not?) then he'll be a bargain for sure. Sending Goose to GR for next year will be so much more ridiculous than when they sent Helm to GR at the start of the 08-09 season and that was pretty Goddamn ridiculous. pucktividi 472 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 Sammy looked mediocre on a stellar 2007-09 Wings team, but these days I'd take him over Hudler,Quincey,Stuart on PP point without any doubt
wingnut40 176 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 One thing to be said about Sammy was he was never afraid to shoot the puck, that's for sure. 2 55fan and P. Marlowe reacted to this
