We are discussing about the majority of the Wings problem,but what to do with our PP?

Nick's gone,Homer and Hudler likely,so we obviously need some new faces on our PP units.

Don't get me wrong,I'll sing 'jingle bells'on the 1st of July if we'd manage to sign Parise and Suter ,but we should sign some player(s) with the 'shoot the puck mentality' on PP as well.

I dont think so because we dont have the size to work it down low and into the dirty areas, especially on the
power play when teams are trying to box it out and force it on the perimeter.

The best powerplays have the same things in common. On D you need a LH and RH shot. You need a F that can stand in front of the goal, and 2 other forwards that are good at passing AND shooting. We have some short comings here. Only 1 RH D on the team. Not sure who is going to stand in front of the net, and what F are great shooters? Great passing and plenty of LH D we have.

We really need focus on getting those dirty and ugly goals again. Holmstrom in his prime was a force in front of that net and our PP was stellar. Stewart is a non-option, not entirely sure why his name keeps being brought up, but realistically we need a replacement player for Holmstrom. Someone like Hornqvist or Neil who will plant their ass in front of the goalie and get some screens and deflections going.

I watched game after game of 30-45 second passing surges that lead to finally being broken up or the shot being blocked or going wide. Before you know it a minute of the PP has gone by, our boys keep shuffling the puck around and the clock just seems to burn away. There was countless times on our PP this past season where I was yelling at the television "JUST SHOOT!".

The Great One once said "You miss 100% of the shots you never take". We just gotta get back to basics, shoot a lot and grind for those bounces.

Entering the offensive zone is also an issue... We are very predictable and without datsyuk it was just pathetic last season.The new asst coaches need to come up with new ideas. And I cannot remember our last 5 on 3 goal.. I bet the PP% is even worse on 5 on 3.

Edit not too sure about the second one tho. Depends how smith does. Might have to divide these two into two lines a different way but who knows

And have bert and mule be the in front of the net guys then use dats-z-semin towards the ends of games/crucial pp's when we really need to score

Well, one more righty on the point would help. Eaves can fill that role but I would much rather see him at one of the circles waiting to release his underrated one-timer.

Ericsson should be on the PP at the point. He has a 100+mph slapshot and it is under used. Teach him to put it about knee height and let him go.

If Homer leaves, Franzen and Bert are the obvious fillers of that role. A Ryan Smyth pick-up for 1 season would be a great idea, but I don't watch him all that much so I don't know if he brings anything other than a net front presence.

With Nick gone I guess that a combo of Kronwall and Pavel/Z will QB the point play. Not saying that Pavel or Z will be taking shots from the blue line, but they may be starting plays from that far out and be the ones to take the puck into the PP zone. With the acquisition of Suter and/or Parise/Semin, any of these players will be on the 1st line unit IMO. Ideally, the lines would look something like this:

Parise/Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Franzen
Suter-Kronwall

Bertuzzi-Flip/Z-Eaves/Semin
Ericsson/Quincey-White

100+ mph doesn't mean much when it he has to pull his backswing all the way to the UP to fire it off, giving defenders plenty of time to get in his shooting lane. Better to teach him how to speed up his mechanics & give up a some on the mph to get the puck on net before there are bodies in the way.
