Still pissed about the Abby call. At most I could see a 2 min minor for charging. I'm sorry you can't look up ice and keep yourself from getting injured. I'm sorry the head is the next part of the body that is going to get hit after the shoulder when a human body compresses from impact. I'm sorry you're playing the most physical and fast paced sport on earth.

How could you get charging out of that? AB's was gliding for 10ft prior to impact. There was no penalty. If this was the Scott Stevens era there would have been nothing but a momentum shift for the wings.

You could tell the Ducks were going to win that game before a single goal was scored. They just brought it in every facet. Also I'm glad we have depth because Abby will probably be gone 3 games in my opinion.

What depth are you talking about? Bab's himself said we don't have depth. AHL players are not depth!

And wow did we miss Danny D or what? 3 gimmie goals right in front of the crease. If Big Rig isn't out there we've got no one willing to knock people on their ass.

I know his thumbs broken but I still can't find any info on how it happened? Sounds like a slash to me but that is just making an educated guess.

As much as I (and many others) want to trash Jimmy for the score, there's no arguing that Hiller was playing well enough that they may as well just turned the net backwards, because nothing was getting past him last night.

I think he broke it when his hand touched the ice as he was falling. If you look at the replay they were showing last night, as his hand hits the ice it looks like his glove meets the surface and bends back his thumb (sorry, this is not a very good description). I think they were saying he's had this injury before, so maybe he's more prone to it.

Does the typical phone versus in-person disciplinary meeting still come into play during the post-season? I don't follow it that closely, but I thought as a general rule, suspensions were doled out with an in-person meeting and anything else was done over the phone. Last I heard, Abby had a phone hearing at 4PM today so maybe no suspension? Just asking because I don't know.

I had the damndest dream last night. I dreamed the Wings came home for Game 3 on an emotional high and simply played like ass all night long. I dreamed Abdelkader got kicked out of the game. I was shocked awake by the thought that Damien Brunner as the last guy up the ice on a powerplay tried to make a cute move around a forechecker. Just as Getzlaf shot at Jimmy I woke up in a cold sweat.

Ahhhh, it was all a dream. Think I'll go check out TSN. See you all later.

Anyone know why Bertuzzi was not playing?

Cause he has size and will actually use it. We don't like players like that in our lineup.

cause he was playing shinny hockey in game 2 not playoffs.

1. Abby hit WAS NOT a penalty, not now, not then, not in 1935. The Ref was standing two feet from the hit, watching the play with his own two eyes. The Duck had the puck, Ref's attention was not elsewhere. He watched the guy fall to the ice. He saw it was shoulder on shoulder hit, he saw that Abby was gliding and not "charging" towards him....bulls*** call from a ref 200 feet away and it will be bulls*** if he should get suspended....

B. Yes, Howard got us to the playoffs, Yes, Howard is a top 10 goalie in this league, Yes, he deserves the contract (I don't like the length) he got...BUT he totally s*** the bed on the 3rd and 4th goals...that being said, even the Elite of all Elite goalies give up a bad goal or two in a game once in awhile...(Game 7 2002, Patty Boy Roy.)

3. With that being said, you still have to score goals to win. So what you got a bad call against you (they only scored once.) So what a ROOKIE made a mistake and cost the shorthanded goal...So what. You don't lay down and let them roll over you. You had over 5 mins in PP time in the first, including a 5 on 3...Stop pussyfooting the passing and shoot the puck and you may score some goals. You killed off their 5 on 3, most of the 5 min major and was matching their physical play. This reminds me of 2007. One PP goal in game 6, ONE, and the Wings win that series...

D. There is no D....just win. This team is good enough to beat the Ducks, but not playing like they did yesterday. You have to score goals to win. Just ask Curtis Joseph...

Was at the game last night. The pre-game was awesome like usual and the atmosphere was electric. Unfortunately, everything after that point wasn't very memorable.

- Didn't like the way Babcock played last change in this game. I wouldn't use top line against top line personally. I think it negates the one line the Wings need to have going at even strength. Let Filppula's line matchup against Getzlaf instead. They can handle their own defensively.

- Game was lost really in the first period. Too many chances on the PP and nothing to show for it. Why do they insist on making cute passes through the middle instead of shooting the puck? The guys at the point did very poorly getting shots through to the net as well.

- NHL officials are doing a real quality job ruining playoff hockey again. Nobody knows what a penalty is still on a nightly basis. Put the whistles away and let the players decide the damn outcome.

- The Red Wings really miss DeKeyser and it was obvious. His speed and ability to move the puck out can't be replaced. The entire defense struggled with the Ducks forecheck and clearing the zone. They get pinned in deep and can't transition to offense because no one on defense can get the puck back and make the first pass out cleanly. Kindl and Lashoff especially broke down defensively.

- Jimmy was good, even with the lopsided score. Could have been far worse before the Wings threw in the towel during the third without Jimmy keeping them in it prior to the collapse.

Season rides on tomorrow night. Anything less than 60 minutes of desperate hockey will be disappointing.

People will say that the Abby hit and ensuing 5 minute PP was what lost the Wings the game, but take a look at the PP numbers. Detroit was 0-for-6 on the PP, which included a 5-on-3. Anaheim was 2-for-6, with one being on the 5 minute major. Couple that with the fact that Detroit had 9 giveaways, including a horrendous one by Brunner. The Wings lost this game in the 1st period when they couldn't bury the Ducks as they paraded to the penalty box.

Didn't have a chance to catch the game last night, had to work. What the hell happened? I doubt seriously Dekeyser accounts for that kind of a fall off. Was Lashoff in for him? If so, how did he look?

Dekeyser didn't account for that much of a falloff, thats for sure. The team just didn't look good from the start. Yes, they had chances, but I thought that the Wings came out with a mediocre performance while the Ducks were playing in playoff mode. Lashoff looked fine out there. He wasn't a hinderance thats for sure.

The one thing I will add, on the 3rd goal I believe it was lashoff in front of the bet had no body covered... Kindl followed the guy around the net, the forward made the pass through him and lashoff was standing far post doing nothing and a guy came in shortside and buried.

#1 principal point of contact was the head, he got body too, but shoulder first went into the head. Rule 48

#2 He left his feet on the hit, that's also against the rules, and according to rule 42 that makes it a charge

42.1 Charging - A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner.

So this is just another case of Abdelkader being a bonehead, and making a stupid play in the playoffs that costs the Wings a game.

To keep the GDT from getting dominated by discussion of Abby's hit, let's discuss it here:

I don't know about you guys but that Abby call got me so mad. If that isn't a hockey play I don't know what is anymore.

I turned the game off right after they got a goal on the 5 min BS PP. I no longer have any faith in the NHL. Rich is right, hockey was better in the 80's, and I loved the early 90's. Hockey was played by men back then.

It's difficult to watch players stand in front of our goal unmolested. We have a bunch of sissy players.

Who is blaming this game on Howard?

I don't think anyone was but I guess you're not suppose critique his game unless you want a beat down.

Find the other angle of the hit, principle point of contact was shoulder then into the head with momentum...he glided into the body, left his feet when he hit him....it was not a charge, it was not a hit to the head on the principle point of contact. If it were the ref standing right there would have called the penalty. He seen the hit up close, he wasn't looking the other way he was looking right at it and watched the guy fall to the ice...

I know folks are trying to not sound like homers, but you aren't if you are defending the hit...it was not a penalty when the ref looked right at it and deemed it wasn't, it should not be suspension worthy...if it is, then something is terribly wrong with the NHL. The hit that Souray put on Abby in game 2, cross check from behind, head into the boards was far FAR worse than Abby's hit and he only got a two minute penalty...if you were looking to find a hit that deserved 5:00 of penalty time, that would the one over the Abby hit...as a matter of fact Perry's careless use f his skate against Howards head was a worse disregard for another player than a clean open ice hit...

I am not defending the hit and saying that is why they lost. Hit or not, penalty or not, the Wings didn't show up to play and that is why they lost...and two goals that Howard NEEDED to make, but that crap happens too...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpBIFsbcy6Q

Even these announcers say "It looks like his elbow rolls off his shoulder and then into the head..." Exactly what the ref standing right there saw... Don't know how the REF 200 feet away sees it better than the ref right there to make a call. No Penalty. Period. Not now, not ever...
