They said today that 10/14 game is at 1pm, which happens to be on a Monday. What is the sense in having a game that early on a weekday? I realize it's Columbus day, but thats not exactly an observed holiday. LAME

Why can't you be happy for all us Wings fans in Europe who get to watch a game at tea-time? :)

"If I can be totally honest, it's not a lot of guys you get impressed by. Actually, it's no one else but him. From the bench, to see what move he makes -- you're like, 'I wish I could do that.' Sometimes you sit on the bench and just think, 'wow,' and you look over to the other bench and they sit there and shake their heads, too. He has great, great skills. I'm probably not going to play with another player who has the kind of skills he has." Mikael Samuelsson on Pavel Datsyuk

I have to think this is a big reason for the start time.

NHL does it every year. I know this because I usually don't get my fantasy teams set by 1 pm and always miss out on the points. So, thanks for the reminder.

Canada has a Thanksgiving?

In that case, just have the game be between two Canadian teams.

They do this on some holidays, just not normally for Wings games.  I remember because I never get these days off and am trying to figure out why they are having a game during a work day.

Yeah, pissed that I have to work through this. Considered taking the day off, but conveniently have a commitment I can't escape from.

*shrug*

On a related note, I watched Hockey Night in Canada on the NHL Network last night and there was no mention - from what I watched - of any of the non-Canadian games. Not even the Wings game. Is that normal? Also, is Glenn Healy senile? I'd only seen HNiC, like, twice before.

From what I've seen of HNIC over the years, you're lucky if they mention any non-Toronto teams.

Why do hockey and tea not sound like they go together?

Not true. The panel talks about other teams. They absolutely love Pavel Datsyuk, especially Weekes and Stock.

Well, I mean, I'm not saying I don't believe they've ever talked about a non-Canadian player or anything like that. Because that'd be ridiculous. I guess I'm more referring to the way the stuff was covered last night. Is it like, one week is just all-Canada (heavy on Toronto and Ottawa - because both are "great, great teams," according to Mr. Healy), and then the next week will be more open and inclusive? Or does a team basically have to be either Canadian (duh) or playing a Canadian team that night to get serious coverage?

I'm asking because, well, Canada fascinates me. I've only been there for my youth hockey tournaments, and that was 10+ years ago, so I really don't remember a ton. The idea of a place where hockey is treated the way (American) football is treated here in the States...it seems too awesome - and silly - to be true.

So, I guess what I'm saying is, Canada isn't real.

I have to watch a stream every game, so I will just find one at work to watch. Yes.  Most of us do work on a Monday and Columbus Day really isn't a holiday unless you're a state worker... in which case, most days are a holiday.  ;)
