Well the kids are awesome and I agree with a lot on that article but I m so sick of the "when the injured guys are back we are a better deeper team " newsflash every damn team will be better if their injured guys are back.

Being sellers would be the right thing to do, given contenders are willing to overpay.

I like vanek, but how do we get him-a rental, without giving up tatar and/or nyquist? Don't see it happening. Even signing him will be risky. Do we really want to sign a 30/31 year old for 7 years at 8 million per? That is what it will take.

I agree with a lot you said I was just happy to share a rumor from a good hockey guy that didn't have an e2 after it

I just posted in the rumor section a former NYI exec and current NY Times sportswriter said he expects the Wings to look at Vanek.

Just saw the tweet via Malik.

Expect the Red Wings to inquire about Thomas Vanek from the Isles as a rental. [Chris Botta]

Shouldn't surprise anyone. Every GM and his mother will be inquiring about Vanek. Plus, Kenny lives for kicking tires.

I'm not really sure why we'd want Vanek. I mean, I get that he's really good and would be a nice fit on the team and all. But I don't think we need a superstar goal scorer. Especially at the expense of our young talent. Wouldn't a guy who put up 20-25 goals and was hard to play against benefit us just as much and not require the massive payment?

I like to think that Kenny literally kicks tires. Like, he has this small collection of tires that he keeps somewhere in his office, and every day he kicks them. Then he wonders why no one is calling, so he tries kicking them again, this time with the other foot. You get the idea.

I like to think of my Ken Holland with giant angel wings and singing lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with like an angel band, and I'm in the front row and I'm hammered drunk.

Scoring doesn't come easy for us these days, and all of our big guns - Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, and Alfredsson - are well past their prime years. And Alfredsson may be gone next season. And the jury's out on Weiss. I love Nyquist and Tatar and Jurco and Sheahan, but we could definitely use an elite scoring winger.

Yeah it's exactly that, Holland and others will be just be asking about the price. Vanek is not the difference between the cup and no cup this year, he would fix a big hole for sure but only for around two months, the guy is a pure rental and his agent already hinted at them wanting to test UFA. Why wouldn't they, he is the biggest UFA and teams will be lining up with a lot of cash for him. If trading for him includes a first + prospect - which it sure will - stay away and make him an offer in the off season. Personally I'd much rather have a reliable top 4 defenseman + shutdown guy.

I'm sure Vanek and his agent will be asking for something way abov 50 million for seven years, so yeah not interested and I really don't think he would want to come here and be part of another rebuilding/tooling team. This guy went from Buffalo to the Isles - nice team but incompetent FO and piss poor owner - so I think he wants to go to a contender or team on the rise.

Lebrun said on TSN Callahan is looking at north of 6 million for at least 6 years. Which means, paying him around 39,5 million to get the conversation started that's a steep price.

The Rangers have given a mystery team permission to speak to Ryan Callahan's agent.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we're not the team in question. Then again, it's a set of tires ripe for kicking. So it probably is us.

Rumor I've heard is Stewart to NY, Callahan to St. Louis.

Realistically there's no way Holland makes a serious offer for Vanek. It'd be nice to have him, but like others have said, we need defense. And offense, too, but maybe not as bad. Things tighten up in the playoffs, though.

What if Vanek were part of a three way deal? What with everyone up against the cap, and everything being so competitive and thus reducing trade possibilities, I bet GMs get creative. And Holland is nothing If not creative.

What about overpaying for Vanek and swapping him for a star defender? Thus, making a fair trade in the end?

And as to the Florida rumors, we do have an established relationship with them and do seem to be very familiar with their players.

Moving forward, I'd take Moulson over Vanek and Callahan. Vanek will cost a quality prospect as a rental and then 7+ mil per and Callahan wants 6+ for 7 years apparently. Moulson would fit well here and would probably run us around Weiss money.

With the cap going up someone will offer 6M to Moulson and let's not forget that he was very good while playing with Tavares. Moulson will end up WEISS 2.0 so no thanks. I would rather stick with the kids unless you can get Eberle or Simmondsas top 6 forwards. We will still have 3 pretty skilled scoring lines. Our need is top 2 "D".
