All Purpose "Ovechkin is Awesome" Thread

Recommended Posts

This probably doesn't deserve it's own thread, but I didn't want to derail another one given the recent emphasis on keeping things on track.

Anyway...

Just look at this. This guy is on a whole different level. Take a look at the score as well. 5-1 through two periods. I thought Barry Trotz was a defense first coach? Lol.

By his own standards, that first goal was kinda "meh". But the second one is unreal. Look how little he has to shoot at. The goalie is actually in decent position and the defenseman isn't completely blocking the shooting lane, just mostly blocking it.

I don't think Trotz had much in the way of a talentented offensive player such as AO when he was coaching the Preds, maybe why he was known to play such a shutdown style defense due to having Weber, Sutter, Rinne

So when you have the top of the line options in Washington offensively, I would be going full tilt in that direction also for the most part but play responsible

Forgot to add, AO is awesomeness

The most annoying fact to me is he is never used like that on the national team. Just going exactly the same thing you guarantee a goal every two/three powerplays but no... he is always on the point not at the circle. Just crazy.

I guess him and Kovalchuk can't both be in the same place.

I hate Kane.

But Jesus man, has anyone seen the chemistry between him and Panarin yet?

Its scary, and they know the other will get the puck back to the other, so they constantly try to force each other the puck.

Like I want Kane to get hit by a Cab, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't special to watch.

I didn't feel this was worthy of it's own thread so I put it here. I just saw on Facebook where Ovie was benched for showing up late to practice, I guess Trotz is a little more zero tolerant?

It's actually nice to see stars made examples of.

Alexander Ovechkin: Washington Capitals Player Benched for Showing Up Late to Practice

Ovechkin did not play in the team's 5-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday after showing up late to practice. He told reporters that he accidentally set his alarm for 8:30 p.m., rather than a.m.

really?

Most overrated player in hockey. Stands around and loafs unless he has the puck. Is the exact opposite of what a Captain should be.

ALSO, one of the dirtiest cheap shot artists next to PK.

Star forwards have been standing around in their own zone since the beginning of hockey. Even more so for wingers.

I mean that is a good point. Love ovie and all but he is not captain material imo.

There's a reason why Datsyuk captained that Russian team over him.

Why is he not captain material? Because he doesn't play a two-way game? Not many star wingers do.

He puts up big numbers every season and tries to hit someone hard on every shift. It's not like the guy literally stands around the entire game. He works hard. If he wasn't captain material, they wouldn't make him a captain. I haven't heard any former teammates call him out for being a terrible leader.

all who thinks he's awesome should watch game or two this dude played for team Russia on Vancouver Olympic.

I called him a stapler. He stand in the corner casting no shadow waiting... waiting... waiting... until somebody insert a couple sheet of paper inside. And now his wait is complete, he goes f****** BOOM!!! Jump on glass and .... proceed casting no shadow...

f*** him!

That was the most poetic form of bashing I've ever saw, props man!

Uh no. Because he slept in for his practice and make an excuse that he set his alarm for pm rather than am. Godlike goal scorer and all be that was pretty idiotic.

You get fired for stuff like that in the non-sports world.

You would want to build your team around a captain who can't even show up to practice on time? Especially when prospects will be up and coming and learning from your habits? If anything Barry Trotz made the right decision to cover up for Ovie's dumb mistake. Basically making a statement that this is a professional league and you better show up on time. No matter who you are.

Captains lead by example or project it vocally or both. Either way showing up late is not very "captain-like". Being a captain isn't just playing hockey, it's playing hockey and everything else.

Anyways my point in regards to Pav getting captaincy over Ovie had more to do with workethic not "two way player or goal scorer". Style of play has nothing to do with becoming a captain.

Meh, I've actually done this before and have had other things go awry with alarms. I understand there's no excuse, especially for a captain, but these things do happen. He might get fired for this in the non-sports world if he was at a replaceable position, like something blue-collar, entry-level, or minimum wage. But when you're important enough/high enough in your company that is certainly not the case. And Ovie has a lot of importance within his organization.

Replace "Best Player On Team" with "Top Broker In Firm". Neither is going to fired for being late. They are the face of their business.
