toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) How dare Tortorella ! Honestly, I think he is a terrible coach, was that the best USA could do? Who was coach of the US team in the most recent Olympics? I just googled best NHL coaches and the top 15 are like Canadian ! http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/nhl-coaching-power-rankings-seeding-all-30-bench-bosses/ Dude, Larkin is playing for Team North America and his coach is Todd McLellan. Edit: also, the list you posted is out of date, it's from last year. Not all of those coaches are still around, but it makes perfect sense that the vast majority of the top 15 would be Canadian. At this time last year, 24 of the 30 head coaches in the league were Canadian, not sure what it is now. But, the top 15 in that list were not Canadian, the top 15 included both P. Laviolette (US) and T. Richards (US). Edited September 20, 2016 by toby91_ca

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) Couldn't find much on Larkin other than notes in the post game summary that suggested he didn't play a single shift after Russia went up 4-1 (putting him at -2). Doesn't say he was benched, but I think it's pretty obvious...would have heard more if there was an injury. He also didn't play that much up to that point either (only 5 min and change, 16 min into 2nd period). Edit....on the game itself, I only saw the 3rd period and both teams looked pretty bad on D...maybe it was just the 3rd period, but I doubt it as NA has looked to show their age in that department in most of the games I've seen. I suspect SWE and RUS will be the teams to get through, but you never know, NA will have to hope to beat SWE and RUS lose to FIN Edited September 20, 2016 by toby91_ca

kipwinger 8,524 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 John Cooper is also a fairly viable alternative to Tortorella. He's currently assistant coach for Team NA for some reason.
joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 Tuned in late and seen maybe two shifts by Larkin both with goals against. Not really his fault on the goals, some bad defense and goaltending. He's going to have trouble being a dominant force on his own until he starts to get stronger and heavier. Right now his game is based purely on speed

GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) Um he is? Florida fans = Florida Panthers The Panthers have no fans. And Komarov represents team Finland. I think he was born in Estonia and has Russian parents, but he's turned his back on Mother Russia. Edited September 20, 2016 by GMRwings1983
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) What fans? And Komarov is not Russian. Actually, he is...holds dual Russian and Finnish citizenship....but his hockey nationality lies with Team Finland. Edit...nm, I see you've edited your post. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 Lots of US / Canadian examples of this with the best Cdn hockey players playing for NHL teams in the US and having children while playing there, or having US wives, etc. Classic example of the dual citizenship is Brett Hull. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) Larkin didn't look right in the game against Russia. I'm guessing he has an issue and that's why he was absent later on. I have no info on it though, would like to know. Would have loved if team north America zapped the Russians but at least they got 1 of 2. Still in the mix. And McDavid Is a mix of Jesus and Gretzky. RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) OK, I fell asleep on that one, McLellan is the one benching Larkin because he wants his own players to get the time on the ice. Regardless, I still think Tortorella is a sh*tty coach. Dude, Larkin is playing for Team North America and his coach is Todd McLellan. joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 McDavid is pretty incredible and he knows it. That mixture of size and speed is unstoppable. Matthews looks great as well. The rest of the forwards are pretty even nobody really stood out more than the other
