May as well sign and trade him then, if the hearing happens they'll lose him in UFA next summer. Last I've read he'll only sign extension for two teams Dallas and Detroit.

He is not getting 9 mil in arbitration.

His qualifying offer is 9 million, which is a contractual stipulation. That's not the same as what he'd get in arbitration. The way restricted free agency works is, the team has a number of options.

• First, they can sign him to a long term deal at any AAV and term they both agree to.
• Second, they can qualify him at his qualifying number (in this case 9 million) and that's what he'll play at for a year if nothing changes.
• Third, they can take him to arbitration (which they're doing) if they think the qualifying offer is too high but they still want to keep him (and try to make the case that he's worth another number). In this scenario he can still be signed or traded before his arbitration date.
• Fourth, they can trade him and his rights and the new team has to sign, qualify, or take him to arbitration.
• Fifth, they do none of these things and he becomes a UFA in July.

The overall take away is that in only one case does Debrincat play at 9 million per year, and that's a pretty unlikely outcome considering Ottawa has already filed for arbitration and any team he gets traded to will be looking to extend him.

Let's get in on Konecny and maybe even Krug out of St. Louis. DCat may come UFA later, but no way am I ok with spending TWO 1sts on him. They didn't even pay that much and he regressed some in Ottawa.

Im in agreement.  Debrincat and his demands can go elsewhere.  Work with Briere to get the Flyers what they need for their rebuild and get us what we need for ours.  Yzerman getting involved in the Philadelphia-St. Louis deal would stop all the posturing from Ottawa.  2 first round picks for a guy already on his way outta town is absurd.  Let Dallas have Debrincat at that rate.

Dont forget that Ottawa does not want to trade Debrincat to a division rival AND get less back then they gave up to get him. If Dorion is going to take a loss, I'm sure he would rather it be to a WC team.
