Sweden has completely fallen off since then. Name one good swede in this league now. Hedman? Thats basically it. There isnt even a single swede projected to go in the first round this year. For petes sake theres a Norwegian that will be going in the first!

Dahlin, Pettersson, and Zabinejad are okay I guess.

Id like to see us continue to exploit the growing Austro-German market instead. Seider, Kasper, Bicker... this is where the future draft steals will be had.

Minnesota Wild

Like the Flames, the Minnesota Wild are retooling their roster to make way for some of their up and coming players. Despite their status as a middling team in recent seasons, they have assembled a strong pool of prospects. Because of their collection of future talent, they may need to make some big decisions this offseason. 

 

Also like the Flames, the Wild have a goaltender they could look to sell in Filip Gustavsson. With Jesper Wallstedt waiting in the wings and Marc-Andre Fleury re-signed for next season, now might be the best opportunity for Minnesota to move on from the 25-year-old despite the two seasons left on his contract ($3.75 million per year). The Swedish goaltender is a veteran of 111 NHL games, including 80 starts for the Wild over the last two seasons. He may be young, but he isn’t unproven the same way Ville Husso and Alex Nedeljkovic were when the Red Wings rolled the dice on the them.

 

The topic of moving Gustavsson was addressed by Michael Russo and Joe Smith of The Athletic in a recent mailbag article:

Getting a first-rounder for Gustavsson seems unlikely, but perhaps the Wild could get a second. They’d probably prefer to get a rostered player back, anyway — ideally a middle-six winger…This isn’t a fire sale on Gustavsson, though. The Wild will listen on him, but they’re not going to just give him away.

Aside from goaltending, the Wild may also look to move on from a young center, somewhat surprisingly. Marco Rossi, the team’s top selection in the 2020 draft (ninth overall), is potentially on the trade block due to the arrival of other players in their system. The Austrian center, who will turn 23 before the beginning of next season, just finished his first full NHL season. In 82 games, he recorded 21 goals and 40 points. 

 

Though undersized (5-foot-9, 182 pounds), Rossi oozes potential with his blend of offensive skill and competitiveness. Acquiring him would give the Red Wings someone that can compete with J.T. Compher for the second line center position, and he might pair well with fellow countryman Marco Kasper in the future (it would also allow the Red Wings to slow play Kasper becoming a center in the NHL). 

 

The Wild are reportedly interested in adding help on the wing; Veleno and Robby Fabbri could be included in a package to bring in both Rossi and Gustavsson, which would theoretically allow the Red Wings to improve their goaltending depth and potentially offset some of the offense they could lose in the offseason. As for any young players the Wild could covet, winger and 2022 second round pick Dmitri Buchelnikov stands out as Minnesota has started to assemble quite the collection of Russian talent, including Kirill Kaprizov and Marat Khusnutdinov.

I agree with this on Gustavsson. Theyve set it up so that Walstud and MAF will have their contracts expire at the same time. And having your future stud play backup to a former stud like MAF for a season im sure entices them. 

However, Husso would have to be going back in that trade, and Minny wònt want that. We arent the dance partner for them.

Rossi would be awesome, but theres zero reason for Minny to want to trade him. Hes performing well on a cheap ELC, which is exactly what they want for next year: their final season of Parise/Suter buyout hell. He aint moving.

100% agree on this.  

Fleury would be a good add for us at the deadline.  I wouldn't mind giving up a 2nd and one of our 2nd tier defensemen prospects (Viro, An.Johansson, etc) to add him.  Would be a great guy to have around advising Cossa as well.  He's a pro's pro.  I hate frenchies, but I've always like this cat.

I know its a great honor to play for your country etc.But for Larkin to play vs rest was an iffy decision IMHO.

Watched a couple of games of the U18 and by far the best kid on the ice for any team was Gavin McKenna.   He played on a line with Tij Iginla who Calgary will probably draft before we get a chance to.

 

This kid isn't draft eligible until 2026.... gonna be a tonne of tanking for this guy.

That leaves just under $50M to resign Seider, Raymond, Berggren, Johansson. Yes, I still offer Kane term and Ghost the same. 

Now unless you've flipped some of the above traded players with picks to upgrade, then that is STILL a lot of cash to make your team MUCH better and STILL be younger.

I realize this is a lot of players being dealt, but honestly, a couple could go together with a pick to get one guy.

No team is trading for Copp with 3 years remaining at $5.6m. Fabbri can probly be moved with salary retained. Your not replacing what Veleno brings to this team at his price tag. Husso should be fine if healthy. Maatta may be our best trade chip hes good with 1year remaining at a good cap hit. Some seem to think Holl is unmoveable (buyout candidate) but I think a team would take him with salary retained.

I think we add picks to keep retained salary down.  I think the Sharks would jump at Copp 25% retained for a 2nd in 2026 and a 3rd in 2025. They need NHL bodies that suck for about that long to insulate their kids and draft high.
