I disagree. Detroit held the puck and had tons of shots but most were from the outside. Howard faced more top notch scoring chances than Hiller. It could have easily been 3 or 4 nothing going into the third. That in my opinion is why Howie stole it.
Yeah, that's somewhat true, but the second half of the game, our chances got much better. We were no longer shooting from the outside.
But yes, without Howard's saves during those great Anaheim chances, we wouldn't have won. Not sure if that's the same as stealing. I think of Giguere in 2003 as stealing a game (series).
#1, he wasn't the GM in 1997. He inherited that team and added Macoun + Mironov and won in 1998. At best, I'd call that 1/10 "his" team.
In 2002, he went and got every player the Wings could've wanted via free agency.
In 2008, a team largely built on European, late-round Hakan Andersson-found talent won it.
Holland is the luckiest GM in sports b/c he doesn't do anything yet because of the team's success in spite of him, people like him.
How many times have we let a player walk for nothing, then brought him back as means to "improve" the team? Kyle Quincey is the most recent, but he's done this with others as well. How many times has a player be let go by KH to become something we could use? Cap hit aside, Leino wasn't worth keeping for the year he went to Philly? Shane Hnidy? Kyle Quincey? These aren't even "prospects" shipped out to bring in guys, which I argue for. These are guys let go for nothing.
Holland sucks. It is going to be the greatest day in the history of the Red Wings when he is no longer the GM. He has convinced a formerly rabid fan base to accept mediocrity and complacency, and rather than buying it, there are some of us who realize that he's not the savior....he's an anchor.
he was head of scouting for seven years before he became assistant gm for four years, then became gm. If Andersson is responsible for our 08 team, the kenny as head of scouting would be responsible for our 97 team
Theres a difference between elite and good #1 defenders. You can be a good #1 and not be elite. There are only going to be 4-5 "elite" defenders playing in the league. Does than mean that 25 other teams dont have legitimate #1 defenders?
Well the mentioned players are clearly in another league note elite, but how about Brent Seabrook, Duncan Keith? I think he is better than Kronwall, for sure not elite but a "real" top pairing guy.
I really haven't seen his name mentioned but I would not mind the Wings bringing Ray Whitney back for a second tour...especially if it keeps Jagr out of here.
I know the guys 40, but he still has wheels, right handed shot, and puts the Puck in the net.
[quote name='irishock' timestamp='1334976677' post='2294693'] Again, you're acting like Datsyuk has James Neal and Zach Parise as
Well Zetterberg was a force all by himself... Datsyuk has been my favorite player for years but he has been completely useless this whole series and has only shown glimpses of brilliance all year... That's part of the problems with Franzen ... Datsyuk has looked like s*** for weeks and than makes a brilliant pass for a goal and everyone forgets that he has been floating... Deking ppl out with no significant outcome all year
strong on the puck and making smart plays even when he wasn't getting on the scoreboard.
Of the forwards not named Datsyuk and Zetterberg, he's be our best (or least mediocre). He's always strong on the puck, battling and play hard. He's not getting on the score board but that isn't to say he's playing bad. Now he isn't playing great either, but who on the team is? He's still playing a hell of a lot better than Hudler, Bertuzzi, Cleary and Franzen.
Ohhhh, so he is "leashed", that's the problem? Well then, by all means, "unleash" him
Franzen has been given every possible opportunity this season and last, always given the best linemate, high ice-time, and plenty of time on the PP. After the last few games, besides the goal that hit his leg giving him another GWG , he has done more harm than good.
Takes retarded retaliatory penalties that leave us short-handed. Shows only flashes of brilliance between long spans of float, and I've only seen him use his size and hands once down low through 3 games. This thread should read "s*** or get off the pot, Johan" (s*** being 'do anything', pot being 'the Datsyuk line')
