    Jonathan Roy faces assault charge

The only thing that would help out Roy is if this goalie did something earlier to call for having his ass beat. Considering I don't really know the whole story, i'll just say it looked like Roy wanted to go with someone and he went off on a undeserving person. I'm all for fighting when there is something on the line and means something IE. paybacks, past memories. But, fighting just for fighting doesn't really do it for me. Roy deserves whatever he gets.

Abdelkader in a package deal to Kings for JJ

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Matthew-Barry/What-About-Doughty-Johnson-and-Simmonds/125/29456 lol, don't believe that for a second as holland stated several times that "abdelkader and helm are going nowhere"

    The Justin Abdelkader Watch Thread

how does this guy not have his own watch thread? I wanted to post this in the modano thread since it has turned into an grit debate thread but figured we could start a abby thread. Anyways... apparently abby has been taking boxing lesson this summer. I think he knows he is going to be handling most of the fighting next year so it's good to see him getting prepared. either that or he is going to knock out holland for not signing him yet..... j/k scroll down to the bottom to the locker room and click on the first video and fast forward to about the 1:30 mark http://www.wlns.com/Global/category.asp?C=756&nav=menu25_4 I think we are going to be in for a real treat watching abby next year. Hopefully he can run around like buttercup hit everything in sight and be able to kick some ass in the process. Still hoping that abby is the third line center if no mo. He's underrated offensively and with more ice time and playing with hudler/cleary/bertuzzi he could put up solid numbers for a third liner. Discuss.

Who's going to replace Lidstrom for next season

What I really meant was "replacing him in the best possible way" there are nice dmen who can do a very good job so that the team won't get destroyed after lidstrom retires...

hahahah And what has he accomplished since 1997. Do I need to go over the details? 1998, 2002, 2008. 'nuf said But, the sucess that Holland has proves you wrong. Yes, Holland has not made enforcers his priority and the result has been winning and lots of winning. So you point out that he has not made enforcers a priority. So what? Your point is moot.

Red Wings Making Play for Modano

http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2010/7/21/1581188/red-wings-should-pass-on-modano At first this whole Mike Modano to Detroit idea was intriguing, even a little exciting. Modano, who grew up in Livonia, coming home for one last chance to win a Cup. Who wouldn’t get behind that? Well, now it looks like nobody. Red Wings bloggers across the nation have voiced their opinions, and the consensus seems to be a resounding "No to Mo." After dragging out his decision into what now looks like at least August, you can add me to the list. The problem for me isn’t about Modano waffling, or even the cap space that he’ll take up. The simple, honest truth is this: the Detroit Red Wings really don’t need Mike Modano. With Modano on the team it would give the Red Wings five legitimate centers on the roster, assuming that deals with Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm get done. The indication is that both will be on the team regardless of what happens with Modano. Mike Babcock has said that Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg will play together next season, leaving three spots for four players. One of those spots will go to Valtteri Filppula, who is slated to center the second line. Modano presumably would get line three, centering Jiri Hudler and Dan Cleary. That leaves Helm and Abdelkader duking it out on line four, along with Drew Miller, Patrick Eaves, and Kris Draper, who are all already under contract for next season. I’m no mathematician, but I believe that’s way too many players. Modano is nearing 41-years-old, but the guy can still put up 15-20 goals a season. After all, this is the all-time leading scorer among American-born players. But if signing Modano means pushing back promising young guns like Helm and Abdelkader back a year in their development, then the Red Wings should tell Mo "thanks, but no thanks." Helm and Abdelkader both showed that they are NHL-ready last season. Helm is an excellent penalty killer and could become one of the most dangerous players in the league if he can find a scoring touch to go with his incredible speed. Abdelkader is a great agitator, and has come up with very timely goals in his sporadic playing time the past couple of seasons. And as the Detroit Free Press reported today, the Modano Saga is dragging out contract talks with Helm and Abdelkader. Until Modano signs, Helm and Abby are stuck waiting. With Modano on the team, one of those guys is going to be watching a lot of games from the press box, and that won’t help either one of them. But hey, at least Derek Meech will have some company. Ultimately, Ken Holland is not going to turn down a chance to sign Modano. He’s expressed a lot of interest in him ever since the Stars axed him about a month ago, which included taking him on a super sweet date to Comerica to watch a Tigers game. If Modano wants in, Holland isn’t going to say "Ehhhhh, I changed my mind." And if that’s what happens, I’ll grit my teeth and get on the bandwagon for a year (or two). After all, this is Mike Modano.

Hatcher was always so overrated and overpaid. He was a good defensive defenseman, but he was never a top notch defenseman and never worthy of Norris consideration. Definitely rode Zubov's coattails in Dallas.

If by looks a lot like Brad Stuart if Brad Stuart were 12 years older, Eastern Block European, 25lbs fatter and bald then yes he looks just like him. On a side note did everyone notice Sammy to the right of Flip... I heard he was actually late getting there because he's lazy and he sucks.

    Jonathan Roy faces assault charge

I'm sorry, but I just can't take someone seriously when one day they're trying to kill their opponent, and the next they're trying to be John Mayer. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> tehehehehe I think this is all just Papa Roy trying to make up for the fact that he was beat up by two goalie half his size. He's just living vicariously through his children.

    Jonathan Roy faces assault charge

Errrr....yes you did. From the first of your posts in this thread: "Was the other goalie's last name "Ghandi"? Who on earth just stands there, gear on, hands at your sides when you have 30 seconds notice that another man wants to fight you? I can't see anything that Roy did that was terribly wrong here." That's good you stand by your opinion, because if you didn't, then no one else would. To call this a "simple on-ice fight" is completely asinine. Why? My parents did raise me to do that exact thing, and I am now a third degree black-belt in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu thank you very much. I was raised not to fight under any circumstance, but I was taught to defend myself. I can garauntee my parents are substantially more intellectual than your parents, so by your standards if my parents are dumb, what does that make your parents. To bring family into this is completely uncalled for and I hope you never do it again as it only detracts from any argument you may have with your ad hominem. Again, this is a huge fallacy! Using an A-Typical sample size to support your conclusion is not a good thing to do. Plus, this is a horrible analogy as well. It amazes me you can liken a hockey fight in Junior A to real life outside of hockey. I can cite hundreds of examples throughout history where a historical icon shied away from confrontations and didn't get eaten alive. Just because this goalie didn't defend himself on the ice, doesn't mean he shies away from moral injustices. Without going into much detail both my parents had a hard life growing up and they never once defended themselves in a physical fight and now guess what, they are more successful than 90%+ of any sampling of people you can find (monetary and quality of life). I had zero intention of responding to this, but after you brought up my parents I really had no choice to do so. You better think twice before you know who you are getting into things with as this goes for Roy Jr. and yourself. Have a good day.

This is the kind of b.s. that Roy pulled that gives hockey fights a bad name. Nothing more here than a testosterone driven child that couldn't control his emotions.
