I don't agree with the notion that Detroit doesn't pay players what they're valued, I think it's that players who WANT to come here don't mind taking pay-cuts because they know there are very few places that have a legit chance every year to not only make the playoffs, but make it far and challenge for a Cup...Detroit being one of them. Sure I wanted and wanted Wiz to be a Red Wing, but I didn't know his attitude towards being a Red Wing, like someone said it's his loss and he burned any bridge or chance of EVER becoming a Red Wing, so he is gonna have to just bounce around year after year making his $5.5M, guarantee he WILL NOT complete his contract in Columbus, if he makes two whole seasons I will be surprised. He could have come here for the same 6 years at a $4.5M to $5M per and knowing what we know about how Detroit treats their players, he would've not only finished that contract here, but finished his career here as well. Oh well...and concerning his comments and negativity about playing in Detroit, where is Patrick Roy when you need him?

Ericsson's agent played this game well. Losing Rafalski put our defensive roster into crisis mode, and Salei leaving gives Holland more to look for in an already dry FA market. If Ericsson walks, half of our defensive core is gone and needs to be replaced and given the talent available, this is not the year to go down that road. Holland knew this and so did Ericsson's agent. If there were more defensive free agents, Ericsson doesn't average 3.25M. If Rafalksi doesn't retire, Ericsson doesn't average 3.25M. The ball was not in Holland's court with this one, and that is why Ericsson got what he got. Not because Holland is a loony or has some secret trade up his sleeve, or that Ericsson is expected to replace Rafalski. This is a matter of minimizing damage, and losing Ericsson (regardless of how he's bashed here) in addition to Rafalski and Salei would be devastating in this years' market.

Im confused by why Price signed with them again? Its not like he is getting much more then he would get on the market-and I do believe he'd be a better goalie else were!- but what boggles my brain is that after seeing him play there for a few years and hearing the booooooos sent his way...then hearing his response to the fans after the boooooos, ............HOW THE HELL CAN THIS WORK??? Kenny is going to deal again/still dealing, but I'm certain we have our roster for the start of the season set already. Mr. Holland will deal for Picks and prospects from here on out...until the season play's out a little and we get to see what's what...(the ninja is Ken Holland)

Bobby Ryan is not a player I would think anyone would have a problem giving a contract to, something is odd there for sure...

Lidstrom is one of the best Defenseman of all time...ALL TIME! He (and most the Wings) had a below average year, by there standards anyway. I also would not be at all surprised to see Nick get the Norris back this season.
