    Patrick Eaves injury

I'm not sure where exactly Eaves got hit, and if this would have even made a difference for him, but the fact that it's been quoted as a head injury, I'm gonna say this: As cool as hockey helmets are, and as much as i like them, the time has come to upgrade them with a major overhaul. With the increased speed of the game, the increased size and strength of the players, the increased velocity of the average player's slapshot, and the increased knowledge of long term brain effects of sudden impact, the hockey player needs similar protection as the rally car/motorcycle driver. It can be designed in such a way with the classic body lines of a hockey helmet so as to resemble the overall shape, but it's got to be beefed up. Why is this never talked about by any of hockey's talking heads?

    Yzerman Lightning Jersey

I'll meet them half-way. They can wear a Steve Yzerman autographed suit and tie. The jersey is OURS.

    Yzerman Lightning Jersey

Just saw a post game with Stamkos on NHL network and some jackass in the crowd was wearing a #19 Yzerman Lightning Jersey... I don't care if he's their GM, that's all kinds of wrong...

This pretty much originated from a thread on reddit regarding shoddy quality of jerseys and nameplates and such on Shop.NHL.com. Apparently http://www.coolhockey.com/ is one of the few licensed jersey customization companies out there and they're doing a nice sale promotion. Here's what the guy on reddit had to say: 58% off jersey customizations. Not too shabby. Thought it might interest at least some of you here.

I bet every Leaf fan said the same thing about Finger. He's not bad, but that contract makes him horrible.

This is really a nice story. My oldest son, who is 15 and is high functioning autistic, is wanting to work so much. He wants a job badly. It's stories like this, that keep all of our heads up! Were not as limited as sometimes we believe we are.

Great news that it's finally going to be a rivalry that people will want to watch, and great news that it's at the 'Big House'. Think it fits better than Comerica to watch hockey. Having said that, although I'm damn happy about it and I'm so glad they've finally put a Canadian team in there, why not choose two new teams seriously? Minnisota hosting Dallas would be great to watch in the snow. Or Phoenix travelling to Winnipeg (although more for nostalgia rather than two good hockey markets).

    Where is Darren McCarty?

Really? Really,.....sometimes it's obvious some of you guys have no clue about what you're writing about. That goal he scored, won us our first stanley cup in 52 years That fight he had in march of that year,...that helped too. so did the game winning goal from that same game. He had problems,...sure He spent his money foolishly and probably deserves to be where he's at. Like it or not, if you became a redwings fan after 97, you did so in no small part due to Darren McCarty. Without him fighting Claudia there is no cup. It showed everyone we would not be initmidated Without that goal the avs would have won that game, and the battle of the joe, would have lost all significance. Without THAT GOAL we'd still be looking for a championship (you could argue we'd have got 02' but no way we win 98 without winning 97 first). You don't like the guy,..cool But his place in Red Wings lore, is right up there with all the greats who wore the winged wheel.

    Where is Darren McCarty?

It's been 10 years but the goal will be remembered until the end of time. When you're in the limelight, everything get's thrown at you, drugs, drinking, women, gambling, etc.. Some guys can handle the temptations, others can't. Humans screw up all the time. A guy like McCarty had to screw up in front of the world. We're lucky, when we screw up, it's only in front of a small amount of people. If it wasn't for the Salary Cap, DMac still would have been a Red Wing, and would have been able to retire in Detroit. I honestly feel for the guy, because he gave us so much as a player. Plus he was very active in the community. I wish him all the best.

    Pick Your Poison

Our power play has sucked, but we're still finding ways to win games. Out of these choices, we need a better scorer. Or to get rid of Ericcson. I'll take either.

    Patrick Eaves injury

This really bums me out. He's one of our better PK guys, and one of only a few forwards on the team that Babs doesn't have to beg to shoot the puck on net. Hopefully Patty gets it together before the playoffs roll around.

I'd rather look at it this way: Like it or not, from your perspective as a Blues fan, The Red Wings are the undisputed class of the NHL in organizational structure, ownership, winning, the generation of TV ratings, merch sales and on and on. They should have hosted the first Winter Classic and it's about time they had one. For once, the game is celebarting the success of two mega-franchises rather then trying to push an agenda of marketing "star" players or pandering to east coast NBC markets. Add to that the fact that Toronto is a very deserving opponent. Viola!!!! Party time.

Caught most of the Lions game at the bar in Toronto last night. Detroit was overmatched but wow Stafford and Megatron were sick! I don't watch much football and have never followed the Lions, but after last night I just might have to start watching them a bit more next year.

    Yzerman Lightning Jersey

Don't get me wrong, that is an abomination, but I still think a jersey of a player that never played for your organization is worse... Especially when said player never played anywhere else AND is an icon there...

Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?

I think they might be the most loyal fans in the league, and Leafs fans are absolutely nuts about their team. I think they deserve better.

    Where is Darren McCarty?

I didn't read every post in this thread, but that is just the wrong thing to say about Mac. Isn't the selective memory about who did what and when for this team an amazing thing? I miss Mac, and hope he's OK. He's made some bad choices, but I pray he finds his way. He won't be a Wing again, likely, but I hope he lands somewhere that's good for him.

    Where is Darren McCarty?

Better yet, put him between the glass like Pierre and we'd not only have a commentator, we'd have a free enforcer. You know he'd forget himself and start something. Hey, get a cable contract for "Xtreme Hockey Commentating" and he could use all the naughty words and throw all the punches he wanted. Talk about ratings! Just put a parental advisory on it. I love D, and I'd love to see him around in some way even if his playing days are over.
