Quenneville fined $10K
esteef and 3 others reacted to Hockeytown0001 for a post in a topic
Link So lemme get this straight....... -Intentionally slam an opponent's head into the glass - fined $2,500. -Say the officiating is less than stellar after no penalty was called on a dirty hit that sent a star player off on a stretcher - fined $10,000. Yep, seems legit. This is getting way out of hand. The NHL is far too protective of their incompetent officials. -

The NHL suspends Torres indefinitely which basically means they agree that the referees missed the call and it was a dirty play/hit. Go figure :!: So now Quenville is fined $10,000 for agreeing with Shanny and Dept of Player Safety. -

I hate loosing. We've been coming up with line combos all season, but there's always something that doesn't click. No matter how you line people up, there's always one guy that doesn't fit. One "superline" and three ho-hum lines won't get it done. We really do need Helm and Eaves to give us a good bottom 6. If they were in right now, I'd say load up the top line, but since the bottom lines aren't that stellar, I really can't justify putting Hank, Pavel, and Flip on one line and leaving Bert, Mule and Hudler/Cleary as a line. There's also the problem of being low on centers at the moment. I don't think the problem is in the line choices. We just need to get the pucks past Rinne and have someone there to catch the rebounds when we don't. If we had a Homer type on every shift, we'd have way more goals. -

Until the End ...

Lets not forget what happened last year folks - this team is capable of putting together 3 in a row. Unlikely? Aboslutley, but impossible? Absolutley not. Its more evident than ever that changes need to be made to make Detroit stylistically capable of winning against the big bodied teams. At the end of the day its clear or lack of size/grit/phyiscality just makes this team too damn easy to play against. That said, weve got what weve got. Its up to those 2o guys in that room to get the job done and just get ONE win on Friday. Coming home for 6 and its a series again. Once again seeing fans at the Joe walking out with 5 minutes left while down 1 goal was disgusting. We have the most spoiled fanbase in pro sports with our continued success and competitiveness and yeah this year certainly isnt the best team we've ever iced - and Im sure weve all been hearing the "too old, too slow, too soft, no goaltending banter" from our friends/colleagues lately. That CANT be Lidstroms last game at JLA - ths teamplays best when their backs are against the wall, and I expect to see a great effort in a few days and a few bounces are bound to go our way.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab_lp4GFKGg <br class="Apple-interchange-newline"> -

Too many damn pretty boys
HadThomasVokounOnFortSt and one other reacted to newfy for a post in a topic
There are way too many damn pretty boys trying to finesse themselves around the ice on this wings team. Zetterberg and Datsyuk are the most capable but aren't playing the perimeter. Meanwhile, Hudler and Filpulla havent cut int the middle of the ice or crashed the net yet it seems. Theres a reason Rinne can get this many shots and not allow any goals. Having skilled guys and all is nice but there needs to be a mix. The best line for the wings has been Cleary and Abdelkader because they actually muck, grind and play playoff style hockey. They've crashed the net and generated chances. I cant believe how many weak outside shots I've seen Filppula take but its embarrassing almost. This team needs grittier scorers. A not broken down Cleary would be a great start, maybe find a guy to replace an aging Homer as well. That gritty Maltby, Mccarty type playoff scoring is lacking from this team. People say that a 4th line barely matters, but having a fourth line getting all over the goalie is what this team needs. This team is just not greasy enough. Parise is a greasy goal scorer and would be a perfect start This change starts with getting Hudler outta here. Cool he scored 25 goals, but so would a lot of guys given his linemates and ice time. He's soft and small, even if he crashes the net he does nothing cause he gets manhandled. UFA at years end Replacing Holmstrom with a guy that plays his style of game is also critical. Trying to find a guy like Hornqvist would be huge for this team. Ryan Jones would be nice. He can score around 20 goals but plays a bit like Homer or Cleary as well. Hopefully getting some of the bigger guys drafted lately into the line up will help. Sheahan doesnt seem that far off and is a big body that is capable of banging around the net and playing that style. This team needs to get some new garbage men. Babcock must be ready to rip his hair out watchign these guys dance around the outside while Rinne eats up everything. -

Dear Cory, Remember when you scored that goal a couple of games ago? Didn't that feel good? You should try it again. And tell your friends on the team. They might want to do it too. I hope you win the game tonight. Love, Karen -

2 pointsI think the Refs have been given direction from Buttman and Shanny to start cutting way down on the fighting that's been going on. And all this could've been probably avoided had Weber gotten at least 2 games for his action in game 1 of the playoffs. Precedent was set. Hopefully now we've learned from it and we're moving forward.

It's because his ankle still isn't 100%. On the PK, he's putting that bad foot forward as a shot-blocking foot and they don't want to risk him being out of the lineup entirely. -

What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?

I for one am going to be really disappointed if Kenny goes after Sutter, Praise, & Webber. Are those cheap, Chinese knockoffs of the real Ryan Suter, Zach Parise, & Shea Weber? -

2 pointsShanny's suffered the same fate as probably many an optimistic politician, a la "I'm gonna go to Washington and make a difference!" only to find out that the puppetmasters (Bettman and Campbell, in this case) are still the ones running the whole show. It's a shame because Shanny's was one of my favorite players as long as I can remember. Bettman and Campbell have made him look incompetent through their own incompetence.

1 pointWe have won our last 5 games on April 20th by an average score of 5-1. How sweet would that look tonight? Let's do itttttttttttt.
-
1 pointAll I can say for sure is that we are too busy s***tin the bed to take advantage of Chicago, Vancouver, and San Jose all getting knocked out. And probably Pittsburgh. If the other three series all hold the course, it could be St Louis/L.A., and Detroit/Pheonix...but I'm not holding my breath.

1 pointDon't want Weber? Are you out of your mind? Get over the incident, it was so 4 games ago now. I'd love to have a mean, big, tough, solid defensive player back there like Weber.

What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?
Mitchmac33 reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
I am changing this team. I know they made the playoffs, showed a little heart, they almost made my 6th place prediction come true, so I am not happy with this team at all. They backed into the playoffs and pretty much have lost it's identity this season. I realize it was probably an expensive asking price on Trade Day, so I won't hold Holland too accoutable and noone can predict the injuries, but some of the players that were relied upon to step up, failed. This is all hypothetical and what I would want to see done. Prolly won't happen, even though it is affordable, but hey, I can want... Lidstrom retires, Holmstrom retires, Stuart leaves. I am not re-signing Hudler and I am trading Mursak, Franzen, Cleary, Kindl and Emmerton. I will send Franzen + off to Dallas (he can star with Eriksson for the next 10 years) for Brenden Morrow then re-sign him for a longer deal, then acquire whatever I can draft pick wise for the rest. I am re-signing Abdelkader, Helm and Qunicey to discounted but longer term deals. I am then signing Suter for $6.5M long term, Parise $6.7M long term and Semin $5.0M long term. When I say long term I mean at least 5 yrs. I am promoting Smith and Nyquist full time, also Tatar/Sheehan will be up & down here for the 13th forward to rotate in and out. I am not sure on a 7th Defenseman, but I am sure a serviceable one will present itself. For GRR I am signing Dekeyser for the D and I wanted to sign Jeremy Welsh but he was already plucked by Carolina...another miss for Holland. Anyhow, here is my 2012-2013 roster: FORWARDS Zach Parise ($6.700m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Alexander Semin ($5.000m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg © ($6.083m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) Brenden Morrow ($4.100m) / Darren Helm (@) ($1.000m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.866m) / Drew Miller ($0.838m) Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall (@) ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($6.500m) Ian White ($2.875m) / Kyle Quincey ($3.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Joey MacDonald ($0.550m) This actually leaves $973,000 available under the CURRENT Cap. Of course if the Cap drops (which I doubt considering the revenue the NHL is bringing in) then some numbers could be tweaked, but this roster is sitting pretty good as it stands... You may like it or not, and I am sure you will tell me about it, but this team beats the current team hands down all season long AND in a series.
