Yeah, that definitely makes a lot of sense. You're right about the Gaustad and Moen thing, and I really didn't think about that.

Normally, this would be Holland's style for sure. But becuase of increasing parity and given the price last spring for Guastad and considering that a guy like Moen wasn't even moved at all, I could see Holland addressing this need sometime this summer. What I could see Holland doing is aggressively going aftre the 2 defensemen and a top six forward on July 1st, then waiting for bargains later in the summer to fill the back-up goalie position and get that bottom six grinder.

    Alexander Radulov.

At the current exchange rate, 9 million Rubles would be about $277,563 USD, which is barely over half the minimum NHL salary this year. But that's closer to what I would willingly pay Radulov than $9m, so...

Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?

No he didn't. Not even top 100. Now, the aftermath of the cheap shot and ensuing pile up had some of the worst RESULTS in hockey, yes, but the shot itself was far from being the worst cheap shot in hockey history.

Agreed 100% Its also bulls*** that they were allowed to bring him in to try to help their Cup run. You can guarantee that loophole is going to be slammed shut during the next CBA.

Hopefully having all their names and locations publically published like this for all to see, in an area, and entire region, that absolutely loves the late 90s Wings and the old grind line, will be enough encouragement for them to knock that s*** off and leave Mac and his wife alone.

Who is this McDonald guy you keep talking about? The Wings have no such person on the roster. Oh, you mean Joey MacDonald? I seriously doubt he'll be cut or thrown in on a deal. He'll be put through waivers & either play in GR or the Wings lose him if another teams wants to claim him. So realistically, he'll be in GR splitting time with McCollum and/or Petr Mrazek throughout the season.

Once you live a live like he has, it's nearly impossible to break free from it. It's sad and I wish him the best. He's a Detroit sports icon and I hope all these psychos leave him alone so he can continue rebuilding his life.

I find it hilarious how every one is getting boners over Schultz when the bulk of people on this forum have probably never seen him play. Every few months a new flavour of the week player gets into the media and every one on this forum goes crazy wishing the Wings would sign that player. Last summer so many people were going nuts over Christian Ehroff and/or James Wisniewski and now everyone is happy the Wings didn't touch them. I'm not saying Schultz will/would end up being a disappointment but so many people talk out of their asses about players they literally know nothing about.

It's always tough to see someone struggle so mightily with their demons. I sincerely hope that Darren is able to keep his life on the right track, and that this helps him turn the page on that stage of his life.

    Wings interested in Garrison

When i joined this forum a month ago, i said right up front that i thought the Wings needed to find 8-10 new players over the next 2 off seasons. well Holland is now publicly talking about adding 5 new guys this year alone. That is the public comments. private could be even higher. The next year we could have another 4-5 openings. White, Cleary, Filppula, and Howard are all UFA's next season. Howard of course will/should be back. Same with Fillppula. others can go if we upgrade. But bringing things back to this offseason. There are only 2 real openings on the team currently. As of today we have the following forwards: Dat, Z, Franzen, Burt, Filppula, Abby, Helm, Cleary, Emmerton, maursk, Miller, Eaves, and Nyquist. That is 13 total. On D we have: Kronwall, Quincey, E, White, Smith, and Kindl. That is 6. At G we have Howard and McDonald. That is 2. So as of today, we are 1 forward short and 1 Dman short. This is where things get interesting. Holland is talking a top 6 forward, a bottom 6 forward, an offensive Dman, a solid tough Dman, and a backup goalie. We are not going to sign 5 UFA's. So who goes and who stays? Well 3 gus have no trade clauses per capgeek: dat, E, and Burt. So we know they will be here. But past that, we can see hundreds of possible options. from the really good to the really bad. we also have money to spend. 25 million right now. depending on trades made that could go up or down. Now some opinions. I know you all could hardly wait......LOL I expect 2 of the 5 moves that Holland is talking about coming via FA. Top D and backup G. There are several options at each of those spots. For a high scoring forward there is only one real option, that is Parise. But what if we don't get him? Do we have the pieces to trade and get a high scoring forward? Not sure on that, without moving another major piece and creating another hole. But this is were Holland will make or break this offseason. There are several very good young forwards that are in the last season of their contracts. Clarkson, Perry, Staal, Getzlev (spelling), Horton if healthy, Purcell, etc........ Many possible options can come to mind, but all costs a lot to make happen. Like I said, going to be very interesting......

lol. The kid has played 111 NCAA hockey games and somehow people think he's earned the right to walk into a spot on one of the premier hockey teams in the National Hockey League? Good try, but this isn't "Mystery Alaska", it takes EXTREMELY rare talent to do that. If he's not elite in the same way that Crosby, Stamkos, Toew was, then he doesn't walk into a spot on the Detroit Red Wings without ever even playing in one of the professional leagues around the world.

Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?

Tone it down, Rich. Advocate physical hockey all you want, but pulling the Internet Tough Guy card is uncalled for. Definitely not a fan of Shea Weber after the game 1 incident, but there's no doubt he'd make Detroit a better team. That said, there's no way he'd be worth trying to sign to an offer sheet. We'd have to offer a ridiculously high amount to ensure that Nashville doesn't simply match the deal, and then we'd lose 4 1st round picks if they didn't match. Losing 4 1st round picks, and being sandbagged with a massively over-inflated contract? Pass. Even if it is for one of (if not THE) best defensemen currently playing the game today.

Good lord, guy, quit taking the steroids. Good physical hockey is great - gooning it up isn't. If you like that kind of rough stuff so much, just stick to cage fighting.

Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?

You're assuming all of us are thrilled Bert's here. Not all of us practice a double standard. And as evidenced by the hiring of Derian Hatcher & Todd Bertuzzi, we don't have a say in who wears the Winged Wheel and who doesn't. The fact that some of us would prefer to not sign goons doesn't make us bad fans; it makes us decent people.

Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?

It offended me, as well, that Weber and the Pred-no-necks thought attacking Hank in that manner was fine and dandy. However, justice was served and they disappeared off the playoff radar rather ignominiously. Hank and Weber are grown men... well, Hank is, anyway. If they can work it out, then I say go with what makes the team better. If that means Weber, then fine. But don't break the bank on him. While we need D, I am not sure he's Wing material. Convince me.

Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?

I was completely on the Weber bandwagon until he manhandled Hank. Even if he were a Wing and did that to a Pred, I'd still lose all respect for him. And if Hank's captain, what would Weber do to make things right? Hank can say all is forgiven, but Hank's only human; what would it take to actually work well together?
