A shortened schedule would definitely help NBC's situation; they could use the one they already have.

Where Do You Rank Our Defense?

Nobody really noticed how bad Stuart really was the last 2 years... The way Ericsson performed after injury is an improvement to Stuart

This is not at all a knock on Datsyuk, who is my favorite active player hands down by 12 country miles, but Fedorov was better in his prime. I've heard some say that Datsyuk is a great defensive forward (he is, and the Selkes back it up), that his stickhandling skills are par none (they are) and that he just brings straight up sex appeal to the on ice game (he does as well -- dude is slick). The thing is, if you can come up with an adjective or description of a good skater in hockey, Fedorov matches that description (to my knowledge, he never played goalie, thus me saying "skater"). Want a power forward? Check. Need speed and energy? Gotcha, boss. Want a top forward shut down? Not a problem. Penalty killed? P'shaw. Need someone to dish? Yeah, we can do that. Shots from the point? Snipe? Check? Just need me to intimidate the entire other team with how much better I am at the game than all of you? No sweat. See you next shift. The man's double helixes were made of hockey sticks. Pasha is an incredible talent, and a great role model...but Fedorov was the better hockey player.

Yes, but it will only be two periods long. Or it will be held in March. Seriously, I think that if the NHL is in business on December 31, there will be a classic.

I don't think winning the cup in a shortened year qualifies as "cheap". Especially since over half the teams make the playoffs anyway. You still need to prove you're the best of the remaining sixteen. I could see if the season was only a dozen or so games. But 40 is still a large enough sample size to determine who gets into the post season and who doesn't.

Considering our history shows that the first half of the season goes much better than the second half, I think it would be beneficial and give us a better chance of landing a higher playoff seed. As much as I don't want a half season, I do think it favors the Wings.

Stats don't lie, goals per game was roughly the same or lower during Fedorov's prime years as they are now. Plus, Fedorov had ten 30+ goal seasons, two 100 pt. seasons, a Hart Trophy, and three Stanley Cups. He also won the Selke twice, and actually played defense for every team he was on. So it's not like the guy was Ovechkin during his career. I know none of that is as legitimate as an EA sports poll or an urban dictionary entry, but it's pretty impressive none the less. Which reminds me, did I ever tell you guys about how my students once voted "The Fast and the Furious" as the greatest movie EVER made? Anyway, to sum all this up: something, something...appeal to probability...something something...psychologist's fallacy...something, something...you can't see the forest for the trees.

I have to give the edge to Fedorov due to his flair I believe the minimum amount is 37 pieces

Well Nyquist is headed to the Griffins according to Aftonbladet.se. Seems like a pretty exhaustive list, at least concerning Swedish players. EDIT: Figured I'd go ahead and translate what the rest of the DRW players are planning on doing: Henrik Zetterberg, 31, Detroit Red Wings. Staying in Detroit for now and working out. Will go to another club at the earliest around Christmas and if it's Sweden the Timrå is the only option. Niklas Kronwall, 31, Detroit Red Wings. Will take a couple of weeks to see if the conflict gets resolved. After that he'll play for Djurgården in Sweden to help them get back to the SEL. Johan Franzén, 32, Detroit Red Wings. Will continue working out with team mates at the rink they've rented together in Detroit. Mikael Samuelsson, 35, Detroit Red Wings. Says that it will take a lot for him to play anywhere else. Wants to be with his family after many years of moves across NA. Jonathan Ericsson, 28, Detroit Red Wings. The Swedish Detroit player who seems most eager to play. Even rumored that he might join his old club Vita Hästen in Division 1 (That would be the 3rd tier league in Sweden). Gustav Nyquist, 23, Detroit Red Wings. Starts the season with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Jonas Gustavsson, 27, Detroit Red Wings. Has not made a decision, continues to work out with new team mates in Detroit. Tomas Holmström, 39, Detroit Red Wings Still hasn't decided if he'll continue to play or retire.
