And I'm pretty sure no-one else had as tough a 1000 games either. Guy was an absolute warrior for us who took a pounding shift after shift, and always came back for more. Its made me sad the last few years seeing him slow down and the beating he took - not on the ice, but on this forum from short-memoried ungrateful fans (ditto Maltby + Draper). IIRC he's also an American citizen now, so he'll be staying in the US whatever the future holds. -

Jordin Tootoo; Cory Emmerton; First thing I see when I look at this, wow look at that they play for two completely different teams. This apparently went far over your head, as you tried comparing and making an argument that concerned two different franchises, two different rosters, and two different general managers and coaches. Somehow, you think you can argue if one player doesn't play for one roster.. he magically automatically couldn't play for another roster. I'm not even sure what the hell you were trying to get across there, but it was plain dumb. Now, back to this point you were trying to get across? I see 71 games played from the next all-star formerly known as Dany Heatly... I mean Cory Emmerton with a productive season gaining 10 points (6G/4A). Now, I look at Mr.Tootoo whom apparently shouldn't have any recorded stats because he didn't play for the Nashville Predators. He has in a recorded 77 games, a productive point total of 30 points (6G/24A). Well my friend, i'm certainly not a resident expert of math, nor do I wish to be one, but I sure as hell know that Mr.Tootoo dished over 20 more assist than Mr.Emmerton and got the same amount of goals. So somehow, we require yet again another left handed shot, a basic 4th liner whom would've went down to the minors if it wasn't for losing him to waivers, because he "does his role." I'm sorry, but I just can't see how you could ever argue Emmerton's worth over Tootoo's at this point and time in the franchise. We need a rough and tough banger, we need more right handed shots, we don't NEED more passers but he can bring more than Emmerton can, and we need someone who will stink eye someone if they try and pull some s*** with our top 6. Maybe Emmerton will develop into something... but he's already 24 and showing no drastic worth. In forward terms, he should be in his prime or damn near it. -

Sort of like when Gretzky retired & the NHL painted 99 behind the goals, when Homer finally hangs them up the Wings should at least play a game with 96 painted in front of the crease to honor him. -

Lol....you say you like Emmerton but Tootoo is a scrub? We will see, five games in when Tootoo absolutely demolishes someone like Thornton or Perry when they go after Datsyuk. No one....I mean NO ONE thinks Emmerton is a more valuable piece on this team that Tootoo. His mother doesn't even think that. You can hate 22 all you want be he adds a dimension to this team that we havent had since Downey left. Emmerton love but Bert, Sammy Tootoo, Monster and Q are all scrubs. Ok friend! -

He would easily have the record for most goals waved off that shouldn't have been if they kept such statistics. I think he is still a more effective player than some of the forwards we have signed. We will miss him -

Can anyone think of another player that had a career that was anywhere close to want Homer had? I don't remember anyone else that didn't have a ton of skills yet spent most of their career on the top line and played regularly on the power play. He took a beating every game he played yet rarely missed any. And to me I always thought he was going to fall down every time he skated with the puck. We have to thank Scotty for seeing what a unique talent he was and putting him in situations that made him successful. If you think about it he was a big reason that our defenses through the years put up as many points as they did. Who knows how many fewer points they would have if Homer wasn't as good at screening goalies and defecting pucks as he was. -

The first goal of Game 7 vs Avs, was a crazy deflection. He won't get his jersey on the rafters, but I think #96 should not be allowed to be worn again. -

He almost won the Hottest Red Wing Poll of '08. He led up until the last minute whereupon Lilja made a last-minute point grab. But he got 2nd, which is respectable considering that he beat Hank, Lids, and Kronner. He also gave us some fine photoshop moments and unforgettable sound bites. He was a man amongst boys in front of the net. He gave his body for the team, bearing more abuse than a hunter at a PETA convention. I would like to have him stay on and work for the team doing interviews with the guys for some sort of internet television thing. -

That guy took the art of effectively screening a goalie to the very next level. A great piece of the whole puzzle and a warrior for over 1.000 games. Very glad to have seen him play, way to go Holmström! Sent from my BlackBerry -

Over 1000 games in a Wings jersey...played his entire career here in Detroit...huge, HUGE piece to the puzzle in the playoffs each year. How many players have played their entire career in one city for over 1000 games? Not many.....Howe, Yzerman, Lidstrom, Delcvecchio....Draper has but he played for Winnipeg before....So Homer is one of 5 players to play their entire 1000+ game careers in Detroit...3 of those 5 have their number's retired, soon to have Lids join them...I am sure #96 will not go to the rafters, but something has to be said of Holmstrom's RARE stat...you cannot ignore the 1000+ games for one team his entire career. -

Favorite memory is that time he screened the goalie on the powerplay, and deflected a Lidstrom shot into the net. It was awesome! -

This is a bad bad time to be a new hockey fan. It's borderline embarrassing how much of a circus this year has been so far. Honestly, to the OP, I would go to best buy, or moviestop, or whatever well stocked dvd retail store there is around you and purchase the Red Wings box set. In my opinion, it includes the essentials of what a Red Wings fan should see, know, and remember. The battles between them and Colorado, the cup wins, and the most intense moments of Red Wings playoff history. Buy it, watch it, all of it, yes it's 5 cds two-sided but do it anyway, learn from it, love it. I went back and watched a few of those games again, remembered the knot in my stomach before a Wings/Avs regular season game and how much was on the line, and the intensity, and the passion. Don't be discouraged by the events going on currently in the NHL. It's worth the wait in the long run. -
1 pointI'd say don't get involved with the NHL, Gary Bettman likes to shut down the game every 7 years
