    [Retired] Official Lockout Thread

I prefer the NHL-FU ...fans' union, of course.

A 4th line of Williams-Emmerton-Wellwood would be great. Nevermind physical play and scrappiness on our 4th line, at least we'll be quick!

Sorry, not buyin it Euro Twins, clearly Brunner is the most dominant hockey player in the world....and Drew Miller is the 22nd best player. Go Wings.

Not the league. "Uncle Gary" does all that. Duh! I disagree. By watching them on TV, I will still enjoy NHL hockey. Not going to games will be a small sacrifice, but one the league and players will feel in the end. Depriving would be me not watching them on TV. I am a hockey nut, and a clean break won't happen.

I've never heard of any lockout being called for by a labour organization.

I heavily and respectfully disagree, sorry. Unless both sides are seeing a massive dropoff in fan interest and therefore lost merchandise, attendance we're going through this crap every 5 years. A message needs to be send to both parties and on top of that, this time even the hockeysupermad markets like Toronto and Montreal have stopped to care, usually this should ring a bell in the ears of Fehr and Bettman, but I highly doubt. Never take a person for granted, it is the same with your girlfriend if you take her for granted chances are you are going to lose her, the NHL does the same thing. They believe fans will be back whenever they decide to come down to earth, meanwhile other leagues are starting or getting closer to the playfoffs and fans are pissed -> a gamble I wouldn't bet on. The MLB had to learn it the hard way, so will the NHL.

I keep posting on forums, don't be a dumbass and boycott hockey if it does return this season. The sport is already damaged from all of this, the day hockey returns and Center Ice becomes available i'll buy it as I normally do. Let's face facts, yes this sucks, yes i'm mad, yes many fans are lost, but I still have a love affair with the sport. The word Hockey was in my wedding vows (seriously) and my better half understands that I can't live without it and it's so much more to me than just a sport. We'll get through this, and hopefully there's not too much of a decline in fan following, although i'm pessimistic about that. I just want hockey. Now. Santa if you are reading this, making this wish comes true makes up for the lack of a slip and slide in 1989. Still bitter.

Good luck getting people to NHL games in Dallas, Columbus, Florida, and Phoenix following the 189th lockout in 20 years. The only places that won't see any legitimate decrease in attendance will be the Canadian markets and NYR. I think Detroit will have a hard time getting 20,000+ back into the Joe consistently after all this horse s***.

Don't look now, but the much maligned McCollum is starting to play some consistent hockey too. He got the win tonight (4-2) after posting a shutout on Friday. 6-3-1 2.47GAA .909 SV% Just pointing this out. Nice to have two steady guys in GR.

    New CBA

Voted no. I agree with Jonz96. Can't speak for anyone else, but I think they have alienated a LOT of fans this time. IMHO this lockout will keep a lot of fans from coming back. Voted no because another lockout will surely kill the sport. I've been watching hockey since the 70's and have been on many roller-coasters with the Wings. I'm pretty much done with these douchenozzles. All of em. I don't really care if they get it figured out. If I watch any games at all, it will most definitely NOT be my number 1 priority as it has been in the past. I won't be giving the NHL any of my money this year. That trickles down to the Wings and then the players. I don't care. I am angry and bitter that the sport I love above all others has taken this road again.....I wouldn't let anyone or anything else in my life threat me this s***ty. I hate that I am reduced to this, but I can't allow myself to be treated this badly again. Bastards.

So you're saying we send Emmerton to Calgary? I'm down with that.

Did you ask him if Samuelsson will play the point on the powerplay?

If Bettman is still commissioner, yes. Losing the entire season in 2005 didn't change his negotiating style, why would this lockout?

    New CBA

There are several ways to prevent a lock-out at the end of the next CBA. Off the top of my head: Global nuclear disaster Alien invasion Obliteration of the earth by meteorite The Second Coming of Christ Global warming to the point that ice is non-existant Maple Leafs win the Cup (c.f. Signs of the Apocalypse) However, if the earth is still present, rotating, and inhabited, the only thing that would prevent a lockout is intelligent leadership by hockey-loving professionals who care about the game and are willing to work together for the good of it. Personally, I think the imminent Invasion of the Mayan Lizard Aliens is more likely.

I voted yes, simply because since I started watching hockey that's how it's been handled. I'd love to be proven wrong.

I honestly can't believe we're seriously having a discussion about whether Tootoo is a better player than Emmerton. I'm not sure how anyone in their right mind would say Emmerton is a better player. Tootoo scored 30 points last year, hits like a truck, and is a solid fighter. Emmerton scored 10 points last year, is deathly afraid of hitting anything, and has his gloves glued to his hands. How is this even an argument? "Tootoo got benched last year in the playoffs." That might have something to do with the Kostitsyn sisters, Paul Gaustad and the return of Radulov. I'm standing by Kenny on this one.
  20. 1 point
My opinion of Kenny has indeed change...usually he comes up with excuse after excuse and his over usage of the term "kicked the tires" and "we need to get bigger" followed up by not getting anyone and drafting small euro's was enough for me to punch the monitor more than once every trade deadline/draft day/UFA season.... ....BUT This season, starting on draft day: Martin Frk - 6'0 193lbs Andreas Anthanasiou - 6'0 179lbs Mike McKee - 6'4 232lbs James DeHaas - 6'2 193lbs Rasmus Bodin - 6'6 207lbs ...and these are all kids! They will grow AND gain weight! UFA: Was deep in the hunt for and offered the same if not very similar contracts to Justin Shultz, Ryan Suter, Zach Parise and while waiting he addressed needs up front like grit, Tootoo, better scoring and defensive play in Sammy, signed the real deal back up in Gustavsson, locked up Helm and Abby for years. He solidified the #6 defense spot with Colaiacovo along with taking a gamble on Quincey and a European phenom in Brunner....he was on the final lists for a lot of players including Suter, Semin & Doan...he offered contracts to all of them. He had a verbal agreement with Suter only to be nixed by Suter's family, a decision Suter will soon regret, if not already. He FINALLY got off the Hudler merry go round and cut ties with him...PLUS he was in deep in trade talks for Bobby Ryan, Keith Yandle and Rick Nash. I'd say ya, my opionion change, for once in a long time I wanted to punch the UFA's for choosing somewhere else instead of punching Holland for not doing anything...now all he needs to do is admit he made a mistake signing Franzen and letting Hossa walk and all will be right in the world! (of course with the exception of this lockout debacle...) Holland made me proud to be a Wings fan this summer (as if I wasnt already) and with the prospects coming up, along with that draft class, things look great! I hope he gets Dan DeKeyser under contract to spring and I still wish he had gotten Jeremy Welsh (oh well.) But my opinion is MUCH MUCH better than it has been the last few seasons! Not only is Tootoo a better player than Emmy....he is the best thing we have had to an enforcer since Aaron Downey. Sammy is bette than Hudler.....Brunner will be great....Tootoo is better than Emmy...unfortunately two guys have to go and those two will come from these four: Emmerton, Mursak, Miller, Eaves. I see Emmerton and Mursak bringing more in return in the form of draft picks than Miller/Eaves and with the plethora of young BETTER talent in the wings, Mursak and Emmerton are VERY expendable... Yes, for a season, the Wings get a tad older, but they get much better...Way to go Holland!

Favorite memory is that time he screened the goalie on the powerplay, and deflected a Lidstrom shot into the net. It was awesome!
