A minor thing I just wanted to clear up: when I say "basement" I mean bottom of the conference. That we could slide that far down is pretty much a non-possibility, IMO. Can't give a guy a win when his opponent slips and he throws cheap punches at him. How come Mironov wasn't embraced like the other Russians? Haha. Well I think it goes without saying that Lilja the greatest pound for pound fighter in the NHL's long history. But it just goes to show I was right all along. It says a lot about how pointless and idiotic fighting in hockey is when a guy who barely did it was the best there ever was. Oops...just went there.

Here's Subban with his NBA attitude, putting himself above his teammates, putting himself above the league, and generally making it all about himself. (I was being sarcastic) In interviews and what I saw on CH24 he comes across as one of the more well spoken and humble players in the league.

They haven’t been favourite for a cup, that’s for sure. But, I'd say losing to the eventual cup champions (Chicago) in the second round, in game 7, in OT can classify you as at least "contending". Just one of those shots on goal slips by Crawford in OT, and Wings are in the final four against L.A. Again, I am not saying they were a favourite, I’m not saying they were better then Chicago, I’m not saying they should have won, but in 2013 they were definitely in "contention". Nobody else even took Chicago to game 7, let alone game 7 OT. Not Minnesota, not L.A, not even the Bruins. I think with the Wings winning 4 cups between ’97-’08, some fans have unrealistic expectations. In the post salary cap world, things simply are not going to be the same. Its not the payers faults, managements fault, or ownerships fault, just simply a result of the system in place.

Was reading up on our prospects and saw that the Hampus was diagnosed with a respiratory disease this last season! Why did it have to be him???

I think when it's all said and done there will be 3 or 4 decent players from this draft

I'm thinking Turgeon could be our diamond in this draft. The initial reports were that he doesn't project higher than a 3rd line C, and no one was really thrilled when we got him with that pick other than the obligatory father mentions. However, the draft mastermind Wings made a play in order to select him in the draft, which makes me think they see a possible diamond in the kid. Now he achieves this right after being selected

Killing penalties? We have many forwards who can do that. Miller is a decent 4th liner, but he's very, very replaceable. If anything, I think he's overrated around here. Our PK hardly sets the world on fire.

Agreed. Doughty is very much the same way. I wouldn't want the NHL to start looking like the NFL where every minor play is celebrated like they just won the Super Bowl, but these are young guys playing a sport they love. It's okay to have fun and show some emotion. I also like that he admits that he likes to throw hard hits so he regretted going after OV for a clean hard hit. Lucic's nut spearing and butthurt antics in the handshake line are much worse than anything I've ever seen Subban do.

In my mind Konstantinov would have been legendary had that tragedy not occurred.

I would have to say Chris Osgood. The guy definitely had his faults, and had stretches where he was god awful, but what he was able to accomplish in his career here was on paper HOF worthy. People always seem to jump to the "Anyone could have won the cup with those teams in front of him" argument, but to me that isn’t fair. Many great teams have been eliminated by inferior teams due to goaltending (Detroit (Legace) vs Edmonton (Roloson)). Even after the 2 year stretch in 08 & 09, I still here people calling him garbage. I think on a mainstream level Holmstrom is a good pick, but I think most diehards give him the credit he deserves. I don’t think I have ever met a Wings fan who doesn’t give Holmstrom his due.
