I agree on the Penguins, but I just want the Cup wherever it's been the least recently. (Outside of Detroit obviously, it can be there every year.). Ideally I'd like to see a cup final with two teams that have never won. Winning the cup is fun for a fan, I'd like to see fans get that experience that never have had it if the Wings can't win.

Buffalo will absolutely see success sooner. Not because of who is behind the bench, but they have been stock piling good prospects for a few years now. Toronto's cupboards are basically empty.

There's a major distinction between criticizing someone as a player and not wanting them to end up braindead. There's guys on other teams that I hate with a passion but if they take a puck to the face, I'm not cheering. I'm hoping they're ok. (And I don't even hate Franzen but he's a frustrating player at times). I hope Franzen stays on LTIR. And it has nothing to do with his play on the ice.

Kip, no new leaf per say, but when I realized that it was head issues due to concussions a couple years back, I kind of let up on him a bit. I was really hard on the guy before that. I was really only hard on him the last couple of seasons because he kept wanting to play when he had no business (health-wise) being on the ice. My buddy Dan skates with a couple of the trainer's for the wings in a pick up hockey league and he told me a couple a seasons ago that they believe it was head issues. We all pretty much figured that as well, but me personally, I thought at first that it was head issues in the sense that he really lost interest in the game. But when it came out that it was concussion issues, I kinda backed off. I do wish he could beat this and go back to 25-30 goals again, but history shows that it just doesn't ever work out that way... I am sure he will go to training camp with full intentions to be playing, I just hope he doesn't hinder his health or the team in the process. He will need to make a decision soon enough so the Wings aren't exposing good young talent to the waiver wire to save him a roster spot.

The LGW forums have been upgraded to Google's reCAPTCHA2 spam security, with the expectation this fixes the flux of spam users that have infested the site the last few days. (The old reCAPTCHA 1 version obviously isn't as bulletproof as it once was.) While performing that upgrade I also performed a general maintenance update for the forums as well. --- I'm currently testing a major upgrade to the forums to IP.Board 4.0, which should roll out later on this offseason! It promises a whole host of new feature and functionality.

Its kind of sad to see the way he is treated by many on this board. Sure the guy is streaky, but some people make him out to be the worst forward to ever play the game. If he didnt have his concussion issues, I would love to have him back in this lineup.

I hope they try Mantha-Larkin-Pulk again.. line looked so dirty written out, I had wipe off my computer screen when I saw it.

Mantha is looking really good tonight. Maybe rejuvenated playing with those two. That line looks great. Also, I f***ing LOVE Bertuzzi. Kid is unreal. May not be anything more than a 3rd line winger at the NHL level (I think he has top six potential...) but he's the type of player you win with.

Mike Babcock is a better NHL coach today than Jeff Blashill. But today, Jeff Blashill might be a better coach for the Detroit Red Wings. The following players listed in Bold are players Jeff Blashill developed in Grand Rapids or at Western Michigan before they played in the NHL. TATAR - DATSYUK - HELM NYQUIST - ZETTERBERG - ABDELKADER JURCO - SHEAHAN - PULKINNEN MILLER- GLENDENNING - FERRARO KRONWALL - ERICSSON DEKEYSER - QUINCEY SMITH - MARCHENKO MRAZEK Here's the important part: Every single name on that list (besides Pulkinnen) came to the NHL and made an impact immediately. This isn't a fluke, or a system that condones itself to certain players - this is the result of a head coach who had the ability to make players better, and develop them into NHL caliber players. If you have the time, take a look at what Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Jurco, and Riley Sheahan did last year immediately following their promotions from the Grand Rapids Griffins. All of them averaged a significantly higher point per game average then, as opposed to this year playing only for Mike Babcock. I don't know if its utilization or motivation, but these players seemed to be at there best when they most recently played for Blashill - and when that wore off, Babcock didn't get the same results.

SimonSin is the master of doom n gloom, I still have much to learn of his ways. No, I'm really not. I think it's alarming how happy people are that the best coach in the game jumped ship and is being replaced by an inexperienced question mark. It'd be like if Datsyuk left for Russia tomorrow, and we decided to replace him in the lineup next season with Mantha. Giving Mantha matching playing time, on the top line, etc, etc. Sure Mantha could be really good in that spot next season, but he could also be really bad, or maybe just mediocre. At the end of the day it's probably just be better to hold onto Datsyuk. "But Mantha knows the players!" Gimme a break Let's face it, we got stuck with plan B. Plan A > Plan B
