3 pointsCompletely agree, there is no harm in people discussing options. My point was just that people want a new D-man or two so badly, that they start to think that everyone out there is an upgrade (which isn't the case).

Hell, I'll be happy if they promote the right prospects from within the organization. Just give Marchenko, Ouellet, Pulkinnen, and Ferraro a real chance. -

Beleskey is this years overrated winger. Did well in the playoffs in a contract year, but really he's just an ok 3rd liner. -
2 pointsAs far as Arizona goes though, they may be trying to reach the cap floor.

Let me help you believe -
1 pointOutside of Larkin, we don't have another high end center prospect with potential to be on the 1st or 2nd line. I think Mantha had a rough year and will bonce back, but we have enought depth on the wing in our system to afford trading him while is stock is still high. Mantha and Smith for Draisaitl, I'll take that everyday this summer.
-
1 pointKeeping Granato was big I believe. He knows his special teams stuff and the players respond to him. Great resource. Chelios´s title is something like "Assisting advisor to the general manager" or the like, I read it on mlive if I recall correctly.

You make it sound like he has good production though. There's no way he's going to get much less than Petty or Niskanen, and he'll probably get a bit more. That's a lot of money for a guy with suspect defense that puts up pretty modest points for his ice time -

Will Wings Revisit Signing Phaneuf?
krsmith17 reacted to DickieDunn for a post in a topic
Waiving Kindl and eating the cap hit+ paying his replacement doesn't save much. There is zero reason to just dump him instead of keeping him as the 7th and zero reason to have a waiver eligible player sitting in the press box. -

Chelios should be on the bench. Then we'd have more recognizable people on our bench. And sirdrake might come back. -

That's kronwalls cap hit cause he got a front loaded contract. He's still making $6million a year -
1 pointAnyone is physical to wings fans No really though, it's probably because of his hit total.. which was 177 this past season & he led all d men the year before with 282. The closest wings d man last year was actually ericsson, with 114. I'm not trying to advocate that hits are the only thing to playing a physical game but they do give you some kind of indication as to how physical a player is.

Not sure why you think Franson isn't going to make around $6,000,000... He's 27, Right Handed, and has great size - even though he isn't worth it to me, unfortunately the market favours those characteristics. This is also only the 2nd summer that limits contract length - meaning the cap hits are going to be higher because you cant circumvent salary anymore... Already this year: PETRY - 6 YEARS/$33 MILLION BOYCHUK - 7 YEARS/$42 MILLION LEDDY - 7 YEARS/$38.5 MILLION e_prime: If Kronwall is making $4,750,000 - Do you think Holland can or will even attempt to justify signing Franson for $6,000,000? He already gave Ericsson the bad long term D-Man contract... -

I'd like a guy like Franson, but he'll get offers far more lucrative than what Ken is going to be offering. I don't think he's worth $6 mil/year, anyway. -

I will personally turn my back on this team if Cody Franson is signed. Scouting report from Khan: Strengths: His offensive ability, He moves the puck well, has a good shot and can quarterback the power play. Weakness: Is not widely regarded as a strong defender, lacking consistency. He registers a fair number of hits but isn't overly physical. (1) - He has only had 2 seasons in which he scored over 30 points (33 in 2014 + 36 in 2015), Both with Toronto, who (in his time as a leaf) were actually among the highest scoring teams in the league, but he was -20 in 2013-14, and -7 last year. (2) - As a Leaf, he was essentially a top pairing player - typically playing with the Kessel, Lupul and Bozak line. He was on the #1 PP unit as well as the PK. What I'm trying to say is that he played in all situations, logged the most ice time and was generally in a good (if not great) situation to maximize his point totals - in spite of win totals. (3) - At age 27, it was the Toronto Maple Leafs who decided that he was in no way/shape/form a part of this teams future. They traded him to Nashville, where he could barely crack the lineup (forget the top 4). On a good team full of good defenseman, he only registered 4 points in 23 games. Say what you will, but we are a lot closer to the Nashville Predators than the Toronto Maple Leafs - and haven't we already seen what happens when signing a player (with the ability to consistently produce points on a bad team) to a multi year contract? Just like Stephen Weiss, Cody Franson has never shown he could combine individual production with team success. No, he isn't worth 6 years at $6,000,000+. -
1 pointI don't think Franson fits in Nashville's plan. With the depth they have at D: Weber, Josi, Ellis, Elkholm, Jones, etc. -- they don't need Franson.
-
1 pointI appreciate the fact that you want to bring someone to the team that fans would hate more than Franzen... it's so nice of you to want to deflect the hate away from the Mule. Semin is the current model of inconsistency in player performance. Honestly, I'd rather keep or buyout Weiss at 4.9 than be agonizing over buying out Semin at 7 million next year... and I don't wanna hear anything about how awesome it would be for him to be on Datsyuk's wing. No. No. No.

It's not And we're the Detroit Red Wings. They are the Chicago Blackhawks. We're most likely one of their last choices to trade with. -
1 pointI don't we really wanna go with aging vets at this point. Rentals are one thing, but Sharp would be an investment that quickly loses value.

Hockey’s Future 2015 NHL Prospect of the Year: Dylan Larkin

I still think Mantha pans out. Too much upside. But Larkin's evolution might end up being a godsend for the Wings.
