Most people are probably going to pick Lidstrom since he was part of the 25 years the longest. Both Fedorov/Yzerman were gone within 12-15 years and D and Z didn't even show up until the 10th year of the 25 years. If the question was changed to "the last 35 years" I would pick Yzerman. If changed to "between 92-97" I pick Fedorov. If changed to 2005-2008 I pick Zetterberg. If changed to 2009 - 2012 I pick Datsyuk. Everyone was an MVP in their own range. But a composite 25 year range tilts it towards Lidstrom just because of sheer number of games played are in his favor allowing him more games to prove himself in while the others weren't around for a large chunk of those 25 years. The better question would be, which MVP was more valuable than the other.

Shea Weber for Pernal Karl Subban

Truthfully the major reason for their cup run is Pekka Rinne. But Subban has turned out to be a better fit for Nashville than Weber was. Now who is the REAL winner of this trade? It's P.K Subban.

    Targets for the Wings

We don't need any more bottom 6 wingers. I doubt we trade Sheahan, but even if we lose him in the expansion draft, we shouldn't be relinquishing assets to add a bottom 6 guy. Either fill that spot internally (Bertuzzi / Nosek / Frk / Callahan) or sign a free agent. No thanks on Anderson.

    Vegas Golden Knights

The problem with comparing their AHL stats is that Sheahan only played about 1.5 years there. Also, In their first years, Nosek does have a better PPG, but Sheahan's 2nd - incomplete - year has a much better PPG than Nosek's 2nd year. So, I'm not sure that AHL stats show Nosek to have a higher ceiling. But, anyway, I was really on the side of keeping Sheahan so we can trade him. I didn't think of the better scenario that you mention - where we trade him before the expansion draft. That makes the most sense. Then we still get a return for him and then if we don't have either of these cheap prospects exposed, it might be more likely that one of our larger contracts gets taken. The only problem with that is that teams may not want to take on a player that they have to protect then.

The elite teams have been able to stay elite, there is doubting that, but dont kid yourself into thinking there is no parity in the NHL. Parity is not defined by ONLY who's wins the championship, but rather who contends for it. Just look at the standings this year: In the Atlantic the top 4 teams didn't even make the playoffs last year. In the Eastern Conference only 3 of the 8 playoff teams made the playoffs last year. Look at Ottawa, didnt make it last year, were 1 goal away from making the Stanley Cup finals this year. Dallas was the #1 seed in the West last year, didnt make the playoffs this year. The Pens keep winning because they have the best 2 centers in the world locked in long term, not because of some big conspiracy. There is no denying parity. You want to see a league with no parity, look at the NBA.

Lidstrom. He was our most important player during both the Yzerman/Fedorov and Datsyuk/Zetterberg eras. And he's the only one of the five who could be considered the best at their position for a lengthy period of time.

Shea Weber for Pernal Karl Subban

Then when you consider that Subban is 28 and Weber is 31, and Subban is under contract for another 5 years (becoming a UFA at 33) while Weber is under contract for another 9 (becoming a UFA at 40) its just not even close. Montreal possibly made one of the worst trades in NHL history. How funny if it blows up in their face year 1. I thought that it would at least take a couple of years until this happened.

Shea Weber for Pernal Karl Subban

Crazy how this trade ended up. Weber and his team gets KO'd round 1 and Subban is officially in the Stanley cup playoffs with Nashville for the first time in franchise HISTORY. What Weber couldn't do in 11 years with Nashville, Subban helps do it in a year. 10 points in 16 playoff games too. Montreal got robbed big time.

    Shattenkirk

Why did Green? Everyone "knew" he was going to get some stupid mega deal right up until he signed with Detroit for 3 years. but you're right, he probably wouldn't, so I don't want any part of him here

    Shattenkirk

I agree with this. I am not anti Shattenkirk, I just don't want a giant contract being given out to him. Under these circumstances I would sign him.

IF they trade Green at the draft or can somehow dump Ericsson, and IF Shattenkirk would accept a 2 or 3 year deal at $5 mil or so, I'd be ok with it. Only in those circumstances.

Has there ever been a coach who trash talks the other team's players? 'Cause there might be now. Congrats to Ott. Seemed like a thoroughly good guy from his time here.

Ya, we'll, I'm out. Uncle Gary pulled the wool over everyone's eyes. Salary Cap was supposed to bring league parity, well with Pit poised to win it's 3rd Cup since 09 and with Chicago already having 3 since 10, that's 6 cups in 12 years possibly going to 2 teams. Plus the Kings twice. All the cap did was take away from a handful of teams and give the accolades to a different select few that were basement dwellers for a decade. I don't see parity when 3 teams win 8 of the last 12 cups (if Pit wins) it's the same as when it was Detroit, Colorado and New Jersey, but they weren't handed players due to a cap. There is no league parity, it just allowed Uncle Gary to handicap the teams that kept his league alive throughout the 90's and hand it over to the teams and their fans that didn't even know what the nhl was in the 90's. Meanwhile there are 20+ other teams still waiting for parity to help them out...ask Arizona about league parity. I'm out. They may not win, but the fact that Pit is even back in the finals reeks of garbage. So basically l was forced to give up my winning tradition that was built the old fashion way, to watch the torch be given to teams that the fans didn't even care enough to support prior to the cap. f*** you uncle Gary. We were all lied to and bamboozled.

Urgent care is the fast food of the medical industry. The quality of treatment sucks, but it's a quick and convenient way to score more Vicodin.
