Let me tell you why you're wrong... Holland gives special treatment to Michigan boys. The only reason Hughes is ranked this high is because he's from Michigan. Michigan boys are always overrated in the draft by all teams. Stupid Michigan. Holland would rather have a Michigan team than a good team. What we need is more Western Canadians on this team. Specifically, boys from BC or Alberta. Men from these regions are genetically predisposed to playing a gritty more physical style of hockey, which I'm sure Mackel would agree, we need. -

Ask some of those guys who used to "play hockey" how they are doing now. It's not worth it. I prefer to see skill over guys taking head shots. 100% agreed Exactly. Despite what some may think, the athlete of today is so much stronger, faster, and quicker then the athlete of 20+ years ago. When you look at the damage caused by the inferior athlete of that era, just imagine what kind of damage a Scott Stevens type would do now if rules didn't evolve. -

If anything, Bouchard is "Carlson 2" and Hughes is "Shattenkirk 2" (as @krsmith17 said). This is literally one of the things people love about Bouchard. He's a workhorse. Hughes has a year of college hockey under his belt. College hockey is tougher than junior, especialy if we're talking about a rookie defenseman. Despite this, Hughes played big minutes for the Wolverines and had an outstanding rookie campaign. Conditioning is not a concern with him. Even if it were a concern, his skating is so effortlessly good and every NHL organization's development program is so on top of things that it wouldn't worry me at all. -

You don't have to be an expert these days to know that an 18 year old kid who has had 2 concussions is now considered high risk to get more. It's open knowledge for everyone. Stop sounding like Roger Goodell. I don't claim to be an expert by any means. Hell I coach minor hockey but we are required to take concussion courses before the season starts and all the information is laid out right there for us. Even with 9 and 10 year old kids we don't mess around with it. If we think they rang their bell we keep them off the ice, they go to the clinic and if a doctor even remotely thinks the kid has symptoms hes out a minimum 2 weeks and then reassessed. For the sake of Boqvist I obviously hope he doesn't have concussions issues and wherever he plays whether it's Detroit or somewhere else I hope he has a long healthy career. That being said I take Hughes or Bouchard over him at this point. -

3rd line left wing eh? Bertuzzi - Zetterberg - Nyquist Athanasiou - Larkin - Mantha Rasmussen - Nielsen - Svechnikov Abdelkader - Helm - Glendening Frk / Witkowski -
2 pointsEverything is pointing to Rasmussen being a Red Wing next season, straight out of training camp. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2018/05/red_wings_prospects_kaden_fulc.html Michael Rasmussen's season ended Monday night when his Tri-City Americans lost 6-5 in overtime against Everett in Game 6 of their WHL semifinal series. Rasmussen, Detroit's top pick in 2017 (ninth overall), was tied for second with 16 goals and second with 33 points in 14 playoff games. It might have been his final junior game. The Red Wings are hoping Rasmussen makes the NHL roster out of training camp. They have him projected as their third-line left wing next season before transitioning to center, his natural position, the following season. If he doesn't make the NHL roster he must be sent back to Tri-City because he has another year of junior eligibility. He can't play in the AHL next season.

Is Luke Witkowski even Canadian? -
1 pointYup! It's looking like the Wings might've picked a damn good time to bottom out. We missed Dahlin this year and I'm guessing we'll miss out on Jack Hughes next year, but, even so, there are a lot of really good defensemen at the top of this draft class and there'll probably be a lot of really good centermen at the top of next year's draft class. I don't want to get my hopes up, but it's possible that these two drafts could, ultimately, be all we need to fill our holes and get back on track. (I suspect this is a big reason why Holland was given that two-year extension.)
-
1 pointWhich could be a good thing, assuming we get our defenseman in this year's draft. Next year, we'll probably want another high end center, or even winger. I'm hoping we'll have two 1st's again next draft as well. Maybe another high 1st and mid to late 1st.

Love that 3rd line. Perfect opportunity for Nielsen to be worth his contract. -
1 pointAnd from my (admitedly limited) knowledge of the projected top players, they're right. Seems like the top 10-15 could be very short on top defensemen, for what it's worth. Sort of an inverse of this year's top 10-15.

I thought you were onto something when I seen Shattenkirk and Carlson, but then realized you mixed them up... I see Bouchard as a Carlson / Pietrangelo and Hughes as a Shattenkirk / Krug. I think you're vastly overrating Dobson, but then again, I'm only going on what I've read and a few highlights I've seen. You've clearly talked to scouts, coaches, and the players themselves to have that much information on them. I still take Bouchard over Dobson, despite all of your inside information on stamina, conditioning and what not... -
1 pointOh, I totally agree that Helm and Abdelkader won't be on the 4th line, but I just don't want Svechnikov down there. If the team is taking this "rebuild" seriously, they shouldn't either. I'd also like to see Frk in the top 9 as well, but with the forwards we have on the current roster, I see him as the likely odd man out. I hope there are some trades this offseason, but I'm not going to hold my breath... I'm open to trading Athanasiou, but only if the return is there. I wouldn't trade him just for the sake of trading him. I think any trade involving AA would have to be in a package for it to be worthwhile. ... maybe you should try watching it again...

1 pointObviously! Realistically, what would you expect that to cost? I'm sure it would be a lot more than I'd be willing to pay, and definitely more than Holland would be willing to pay... If we did somehow get two top 10 picks (not going to happen), I'd go defense and forward. Ideal scenario for me would be Bouchard and Wahlstrom.

I am SO ******* tired of the bigot thing! I am NOT a bigot towards Swedes! If I were I would not have liked Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Samuelsson (the first time around) Monster as our back up, a healthy Kronwall, Zetterberg, Karlsson, Hedman, Sedin twins or OEL. Good ******* lord stop already! Just because I don't like Nyquist and Franzen and for the most part Ericsson (although I gave him many props last season) DOES NOT MAKE ME A BIGOT! I even advocated Dahlin AND Boqvist up until the concussion issues were found out. I just don't think it's be worth the risk, especially if Bouchard, Dobson and Hughes are still there. BTW, it ends careers more than you think, I can't imagine how many careers were ended early back int he day when they didn't know how to diagnose a concussion! https://www.si.com/nhl/photos/2013/04/17nhl-careers-ended-by-concussions#8 -

Here is what I mean, when you have 2-4 players you're looking at when its your turn, you have to consider these types of things in order to make your choice. Boqvist and Bouchard (outside of height) may be virtual clones of each other when it comes to NHL potential, but if one is damaged goods (potentially career ending damaged goods) you have to go with the healthier one. http://www.eliteprospects.com/article.php?id=286 -

Yes. Which is why a lot of mock drafts have the Wings picking him. Its a thing. I would be happy with either. I prefer them over Hughes cuz they're both RH. Something lacking on our D at this time. If I had a gun to my head and had to pick one, I guess I would go Boqvist. I just don't think he'll be there unless Ottawa goes F with their pick. -

The Wings hate right-shooting forwards. They've only recently warmed to right-shooting defensemen. I blame Samuelsson. -

B's stomp Lightning. Weird goal scored on Rask when his blade comes off his skate and then he waves it around like a Twizzler. Then he pulls a Tonya Harding broken skate lace impersonation. -

Machovsky interview (100% real): I think we've found ourselves a keeper. -
0 pointsI've been trying to understand it for several years now. Is it an actual organizational bias/preference? Is there some sort of perceived strategic advantage to icing a forward corps made up almost entirely of left-handed shooters? Brunner, Vanek, Frk, even Glendening...why are the exceedingly few right-shot forwards we've seen get regular minutes in recent years all bottom-six specialists? I want to understand.
