Steve Yzerman to step down as GM for TBL. Will serve in "Advisory Role".
xtrememachine1 reacted to krsmith17 for a post in a topic
That wouldn't really help us much though when you think about it. Maybe we could steal whoever they were high on in the 3rd round or later, but the first two rounds won't matter much. We're picking 6th overall. Chances are, the Lightning haven't been heavily scouting top 10 picks, and even if they were, have enough trust in your own scouting staff that they can competently make the 6th overall pick. Whoever the Lightning staff were high on in the middle / late 1st, they will have picked their guy with their pick anyway, so it's not like we would be able to steal one of their guys with one of our three 2nd round picks (unless we trade up). They don't have a 2nd round pick, so that's irrelevant as well. And beyond that, it's all a crap shoot anyway. Regardless, I think Yzerman will be back in the Red Wings organization in some capacity very soon, and do think it'll happen before mid June... -

2019 Draft

You could also argue that one of the Wings better drafts was last year when they didn't over think it and just took the no-brainer picks that were available. But yeah, I too like excitement. -

2019 Draft
ChristopherReevesLegs reacted to krsmith17 for a post in a topic
Yeah, I've mentioned this a few times, and with the amount of talent similar in value in the 3-10 range, I'd be okay with moving back a few spots to pick up another pick in the 25-40 range. That also depends who drops for me though. If Byram and / or Cozens are still on the board, I say f*** it and take one of them. If it's between Turcotte, Zegras, Dach, Krebs, Boldy, etc. I'm all for a trade back to get one of them, plus another dart to throw at the board... -

1 pointA good read: Rebuilding the Red Wings - My Approach To The 2019 Offseason [Winging It In Motown] tl;dr This team isn't a Connor McDavid away from being a truly solid playoff team, so management should hold off on making any big moves until 2020-21. Embrace the suck for one more season. There are some good discussions in the comment section of this piece... (Note: I am not any of these people.) The idea of an enormous one-year UFA deal is intriguing. I suppose that could be classified as an "outside the box" move, no?

1 pointDDL...1 of the best actors alive today! And yes - great scene - great movie...And Kudos to Paul Dano - he did a great job playing the role of a weasely preacher...And he knows how to take 1 for the team...I mean - he did allow DDL to bash his head in with a bowling pin.

1 pointI go back and forth on this issue. Goals versus assists, I mean. On the one hand, goals are goals; you want goals, you want guys who are proven high-percentage goal-scorers. On the other hand, you could argue that playmakers are equally valuable because some of the best goal-scorers need good setup guys. What makes AA a tricky case -- and you've been hitting on this point -- is that he doesn't necessarily need setup guys as much as a guy like, say, Ovi does. A lot/Most of AA's goals are rush goals. For that reason, "AA scores most of his goals on breakaways" isn't necessarily the damning criticism that some people might think it is. I like Mantha's all-around game; I think he's the better playmaker, I think he's the better possession player (in terms of the conventional shot-based metrics), I think he's better on the cycle, I think he's the smarter player. At the same time, I feel like AA is arguably a gamebreaking goal-scorer and has the capacity to be wildly effective just doing his thing and perfecting it, whereas maybe Mantha is more of an all-around solid guy who doesn't necessarily offer real gamebreaking prowess. But then Mantha has a Mule-esque monster game and I throw my hands up in the air and ask why we're even talking about trading either of these guys when our only core scorers are Bertuzzi, Larkin, Mantha, Athanasiou, an unproven Hirose, and an unproven Zadina.

1 pointI don't really care what name is called on June 21st, I just hope in a year or two down the road, we'll be sitting right here talking about how we can't believe he fell to us at 6th overall... I'm hoping (and still optimistic) about that same conversation about Zadina as well.

1 pointI'm sure most of you have seen Craig Button's most recent mock draft by now. But for anyone that hasn't... https://www.tsn.ca/craig-button-s-tsn-hockey-mock-draft-post-lottery-edition-1.1287914 This truly is a "mock draft" (how he thinks it will play out), not a draft eligible "prospect ranking" (how he thinks it should play out). What I found very interesting is that he projects Trevor Zegras going to Minnesota, 12th overall, in his mock, but thinks (like kipwinger) that he's the 2nd best center in the draft (behind only Jack Hughes)... In a recent podcast that I've listened to, he compares him to Elias Petterson. Point is, we should get a really good player at 6th overall, regardless who goes in the top 5. I'd be thrilled with any of Byram, Cozens, Dach, Zegras, Turcotte, Podkolzin, and the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking I wouldn't mind trading back a couple spots, if a team in the 7-9 range (Buffalo, Edmonton, Anaheim) is willing to pay the price. But then at the same time I think, don't overthink it, we need quality over quantity, take your guy, and hope that he end up being the best player available...

Carolina wants a late first? Geddafuqowtaheer Rags will wait the year and sign the boy for free I think nothing gets done till this time next year. Maybe a team like us takes a shot then, but I'm not sending them anything higher than a 3rd for the chance. -

I know it all to be true but sweet mother fu k it drives me nuts when Holland basically says the only way to get top four help on D is through the draft and then I lean back in my chair and run through the list of D men he has drafted in this century so far. SMH FML -

Met Jamie McLennan last night (Includes Yzerman News)
adirondackwing reacted to Barrie for a post in a topic
I was at a meet and greet media event in Toronto last night. TSN radio personalities were there talking Leafs and Raptors playoffs. One of the guys there from TSN, was Jamie McLennan. Since I'm a smart aleck, and old enough to not be star struck, I told McLennan I'm a Red Wings fan, and said I remember when he two hand slashed Franzen in the 2007 Playoffs. Jamie laughed and said, "Franzen went down easy, and he resurrected the next day to score the series winning goal in over time". We made more small talk about that series, and I got a picture with him. Jamie's wife, Steff, is one of the producers of the radio show he's on. She was there too and I told her the same thing, I'm a Wings fan and remember when Jamie slashed Franzen. Steff laughed and said, "Yeah Jamie will never live that down". Walking out at the end of the night, I saw Steff again. I told her I got a picture with Jamie, enjoyed meeting him, so all is forgiven. Again she laughed. She added, their sources are saying Yzerman becoming the next GM of the Red Wings, is pretty much a done deal. Oh, I'll add Jeff O'Neill was there too, but he was kind of a jerk. I said to him, how great a team the 2001-02 Hurricanes were, and how nervous I was playing them in the Final. He just kind of looked at me, and brushed me off. Whatever Jeff. -

Conservatives = evil for wanting to keep, or hide your $$$...Be it something you have rightfully earned, or some trust fund baby. Liberals = wanting to spend everyone else's $$$ for what they think is their 'special cause'...Doesn't matter how you obtained it - your $$$ is ours to pi$$ away!
