Skilled players play in more offensive roles and top line minutes. Skilled players are more valuable. The same applies to the draft. Rarely it's wise to pick physicality or size etc. over skill in the early rounds. You can dominate with size in the junior leagues if you're more mature physically already. Some players mature earlier, but in the end it's the potential you look for - and skill will become more important in time.

People here really think Flyers are going to trade Carter or Coburn? Can't believe it.
Carter was their top goal scorer and they've just locked him up with a long contract. He's not going anywhere. Hartnell is much more likely if you still wanna think there's some issues between the two. Leino and Versteeg will both go before him.
Coburn isn't going anywhere either, because they'll just trade Carle. Carle has a slightly bigger cap hit and provides less so I think the choice is pretty obvious. Of course Coburn may have more trading value, but that's not really the point here, because their only goal is to shed some salary.

100 percent true, Ericcson is good but never fights and Abdelkader is learning. Other than that the guys have noone. Bertuzzi had 2 fights in one game in like 3 seasons here.

You had me right up until you didn't. I"m going to be very disappointed if the Wings sign Tanguay or Jokinen. What better way to spend money and add absolutely no toughness or physical play up front. Remember that Sharks series? Do you realistically think that Alex Tanguay or Jussi Jokinen would have made one bit of difference in that one? I know they score (so please don't list off a bunch of numbers to me), but we scored last year, and the year before, we always have plenty of scoring up front. We don't have size, toughness, or depth in the top six. Please, please, please, sign Brooks Laich, Erik Cole, or make an offer sheet for Andrew Ladd. Anything other than another 190 lb. European forward.

Third video is nasty. Late hit by a 6th/7th DMan. Horton's arms sticking up after the hit makes me nauseous. I get that he was admiring his pass, but you don't expect to get hit up high that late after a pass. I hope Rome is done for the playoffs and a couple games to start next season if he even makes the squad. Plus, if you're someone who says "maybe a 2 minute interference could have been called", then you are admitting it was late. That's like saying, "well it could have been called boarding or it could have been called holding", you're admitting there was a penalty. Plus, correct me if I am wrong, any interference that results in an injury to a player is to be upgraded to a major and up to the ref to eject the player?

The way you always seem to post that the missing piece the wings just cant win without is a fighter, I start to get the feeling that you would make those trades. The Wings don't need a fighter, you want them to have a fighter because you find fighting entertaining, if you would come out and affirm this statement and not make it seem like the only reason you want them to carry a fighter is because its their one dire need, I will stop arguing with you.

I've watched Philly a lot last two years (because of Leino) and Carcillo is definitely NOT someone I'd want on the Wings. His level of play is inconsistent, takes way too many penalties and isn't even that good as an enforcer.
He'd definitely be a project though. He could end up like Ott or Ruutu - a good PKer, agitator and a player who is decent shift to shift - as he's only 26.

Damn shame. Easily one of the best players in the AHL and fit in to the North American style from the first game. He'll be missed in Grand Rapids.
Thought he could have easily made an NHL team elsewhere in the league, but I guess for him it was with his bro in Detroit or nothing. Best of luck to him back in Finland.

ya, and only 1, ONE of those Cups were won with small skilled forwards. So take your head out of your other ear so you can hear. Oh, and on that Cup team, the two recently drafted forwards to actually contribute? Abdelkader and Helm, far from your small, skilled, soft player. Example of a player who was that way? Ritola, and he contributed himself right off the team. The list of small, soft players Holland has drafted goes on, and for the most part the have yet too, and may never make this team. I get the shakes when I think of this team when the grittiest player is Datsyuk. Image this line, Mursak - Hudler - Tatar. EEEEEEGAD! Listen, I don't claim to know as much as Holland, but as a fan of this team since 1979, I have seen the makeup change a few times, and right now, this team is FAR from winning another Cup, especially if they don't get bigger and tougher. I am not saying a team full of enforcers, but a team full of Hudler's and Mursak's isn't gonna win you a Cup. I just hope that Holland trends the way of Sheahan rather that the way of Hudler...

I would have renamed the topic "mean fighters I would like the Wings to sign", since there's no mention of grit at all, and only one mention of scoring.
The guys I consider "gritty" would be like Ryan Kesler, Scott Hartnell, or Dave Bolland. Unfortunately, I'm sure at least two of those aren't available come summer.

I honestly don't get why there are d-man fighters. I mean when you're a fourth line winger or something like that it isn't a big deal if you go the box. But if there are 6 d-men and you're one of them and go to the box for 5min that just messes with the playing rhythm.
