Against a team with a well established record of goonery, this makes no sense to me. Then again, there is an equally well established record of Holland and Babcock not caring what I think.

First off, the OP's suggested trades are beyond ridiculous. I might take Semin for Tatar and second-rounder, because he is right-handed shooter, but?
But as to Selanne, didn't Anaheim's GM say he was untouchable? But he is a righty, and this team desperately needs a right-handed shooter. I'm telling you. So I would not scoff at him.

I agree, that I hope the Wings show up tonight. There is a record on the line, which I won't spell out so as not to jinx anything -- but more to the point, they have to play hard. Coasting/floating through the game tonight with the Quacks won't cut it.

This is essentially the same team that's been less than motivates to win in the playoffs the last two years. St. Louis got Hitcock and Elliot, SJ got another #1 defenseman and replace the His Heartlessness Dany Heatley, Chicago has more depth on offense and defense and Toews, Kane, and Leddy are just gonna keep getting better, Nashville plays like they want to win every game. We replaced Brian Rafalski with a player who, even in a career year, is arguably not as good as Rafalski. Our other addition is a borderline 6th defenseman, who is a terrible fighter and and even more terrible skater in Commodore. Zetterberg is playing like he's 40, Bertuzzi is not a top six forward, our bottom six forwards have the least potential for offense of any Wings team in 15 years, our backup goalie may be the worst goalie in the league right now. Cleary, Helm, Holmstrom have all regressed. Ericsson is as horrible as ever.
Pittsburgh just won 9 in a row with an AHL roster...but do you think that'll happen in the playoffs? If regular season success meant anything San Jose would be a dynasty. Its almost a given that they will choke but they have ousted us the last two years with what I thought was beatable play. We only play when we want and the last two years we turn it on too late. Every year we've won the Cup we've had a reason and drive. '97-Duh, 52 years, '98-Konstantinov, '02- Maybe the best team ever (Robitaille and Duschene), '08-Dallas Drake, Cleary, most the players hadn't won. Now? You get the picture.
I believe, because I've seen it for 15 years, that the Wings always have a chance and better than most teams. But only when they play like they really want it and we don't do that consistantly anymore.

This team isnt built to win the Cup and I hope they recognise that and don't dole out some lame excuse this year for not making the move to put us in a prime position. If I'm Lidstrom I'm going to be offended if Holland doenst try to go for it. Not to mention, I've never seen our farm system so chock full of talent, we could truly make a big deal without gutting the future.
I think we need to go after a 2nd line forward. Someone who will replace and be an upgrade over the Todd. Ruutu is a good target other than his injury history and the current status of his price tag. The real dilemma is Lidstroms status tho. If were going to send some prospects packaging, it should probably be for a defender. Our unwillingness to pay market price in free agency means we'll probably go the trade route for a good player and that's where we should spend our assets. I believe in Holland's ability to fill our forward spot without spending too much tho, so we'll see.

I know that Berts takes alot of heat because of his past, but I love it when he gets pissed and fights. He is a beast of a man and is very strong, and don't think other teams don't take notice when he plays like this.

I dunno man but I hope they drop the gloves against the Ducks Friday cause I will be in attendance.

Since late January the wings have actually doubled their fighting majors from October to January. Theyve had like 5 fights in their last 5 games or something like that. As well, Ericcson wanted Eager bad tonight but Eager had nothing to do with it.
I have to think Babcock said something to them about sticking up for each other and toughening up down the stretch to get ready for playoffs. Commie cementing himself as what looks to be the more regular 6th defenseman has helped as well.
Just seems like whenever the wings look flat and a fight starts, the wings get their legs under them. Abdelkader sparked them tonight and they didnt look back after.
If they have eachothers backs like this all the time I would be very happy. Keep it up

Sorry about the title, but I thought it might make it easier to find this thread down the line.
I was reading about the Big House Winter classic again, when I read that it might be hard to impossible to get tickets for the thing if you are not a season ticket holder.
This seems absurd to me due to the size of the stadium, but I know tickets will be hard to get so...
I thought our community could be used to help us all out. Enter Operation Dumbo Drop.
I say we use this thread to post updates of when tickets will go on sale. We can try to help each other get in line for the precious tickets and make sure that Wings fans are the first to get the few their are to get. I say we find out the maximum amount of tickets we can buy as well and try to buy the maximum and come here to sell the tickets back at FACE VALUE! Let's not get greedy trying to make money off of each other. Sell them at 10x the price to a Leafs fan, but try and make the priority to get people from here on.
In short, we should try to get as many of the die hard fans in for this once in a lifetime event. Also try and get us in to all of the other events at Comerica as well.

You nailed it... everyone is trying to set everyone else up on the powerplay this year... no one wants to shoot! Babs has got to get Pavs to get shooting a LOT more than he is, same with Hank. I have said it before and I will say it again, Babs needs to get Hank to play like he did in 2008 (where he SCORED GOALS)! To do that he needs to put the 2 together on the powerplay at least!

Babcock defs needs to fix this powerplay asap.

So what are your feelings on why our power play is so bad? Too many set-up guys and not enough snipers? Relying too much on the deflection in front of the net?
Speaking of the latter what is the deal with our skaters alone going down the middle and passing it off to a wing on the side creating a much worse shooting angle. This happens so much I am beginning to think this is a philosophy of the coaches.

Getting eliminated in the second round in consecutive years doesn't mean things are working. The Wings have higher expectations than that.
If you're talking about our position in the standings, that doesn't matter come playoff time. We've seen that before. The President's Trophy is s***.
I don't know about trading Zetterberg, but we do need to make some kind of move, not only because of our past playoff failures, but because our competitors will make moves themselves.

Hopefully Mcdonald gets the start tonite, and could this be the last time we play in Phoenix? I feel a 4-1 Wings win. Dats 2, Flip 1 and White 1, Coyotes who cares. GO WINGS!!!!!
