UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to krsmith17 in Brendan Smith traded to Rangers for 2nd (2018) and 3rd (2017) Round Draft Picks
I post here because my fiancé is a Leafs fan, dad is a Habs fan, brother-in-law is a Habs fan, all my close buddies are Leafs fans and one Canucks and Oilers fan... Not a single Wings fan... None of them give a s*** about the Red Wings. I love discussing Red Wings hockey, and this has been a great place to do that. Not because "I'm wasting my life posting", "have nothing to show in other areas of my life"...
I'd bet anything that this lwing guy is a f***ing loser that lives in his parent's basement. No offense to anyone else that does, but at least you're not trying to impress the internet with all your success stories...

UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to ChristopherReevesLegs in Pulkkinen claimed by Minnesota Wild
Just wanted to mention Pulks cleared waivers today. Thought we might submit a claim, but apparently we didn't. Minny fans saying the same things we said. Doesn't have the skill set of a bottom 6 player. Doesn't have enough talent to be a top 6 player.

UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to krsmith17 in Jensen Signed 2 YR Extension
I'm thinking it was just an easy signing to make. Maybe they wanted to get a deal in place before he had a chance to up his value...
Typo I'm assuming... Better question is, did we call up Givani to play 3rd pair defense?
EDIT: How do you quote tweets like that amato?

UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to krsmith17 in Looking ahead at expansion draft
That is true, and this is Sproul, Ouellet and Jensen's 4th year pro. The American League is considered pro. All 3 are eligible to be drafted in the expansion draft.

Right?? Yeah yeah Anaheim, we'll give you Fowler back.. move along, nothing to see here
but yeah that does sound sound like something that's against the CBA. We'll just have to conveniently realize that after acquiring Fowler..

UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to kliq in Value of trade assets.
He isnt elite or close to it, but for a contender that puts him on the 3rd pairing and PP, he could be a big difference maker.

For the most part I think your expectations are a bit unrealistic, though I hope you are right. As far as Nyquist/Tatar, I dont even consider it for a 4th. I would rather use one of them in a package for a d-man.

If we have an opportunity to get Trouba or Hamilton, you deal the pick. Like someone said, by time their due for a huge raise, we'll have plenty of cap space.
We haven't touched on when they sign Tavares after next season...

Trouba is 22 years, DD is 26, for a D-man that is a HUGE difference. You cannot compare the two, very very weak argument on your part.
Please do not twist my argument around to fit your narrative. What I said was that Trouba has the POTENTIAL to be elite, I never once said he is currently elite. I cant remember anyone ever saying that DD had the potential to be elite, not even close to the same situation.

You can't evaluate a player solely on OHL points. Sproul had 66 points in 50 games, Ekblad had 53 points in 58 games. I dont think anyone would argue Sproul was a better player going into the draft then Ekblad.
I couldn't care less that Trouba is from Michigan, and that truly has zero to do with me wanting us to acquire him. I dont live in Michigan (same goes for krsmith17) so why would I care. I want to acquire him because he is a player who has 1A D-man upside and wants out of his current situation. Name me another player in the NHL that is 22 or younger with that upside and wants out. If players like Ekblad or OEL were available I would want them to, but they are not going anywhere.

Its all about probability. The probability of Trouba becoming a 1A d-man is much higher then a top 5 pick being a 1A d-man. Unless we are talking a can't miss like an Ekblad, I take Trouba every time.

Well obviously... I don't see anyone implying that.

Mantha and Larkin are as good as who? Matthews? Are you serious? Larkin and Mantha are good players but not even in the same level as Matthews. Kid has 20 goals. Larking and Mantha don't have 20 combined.

UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to DickieDunn in Mike McKee
I'd rather have a guy who can actually do something at the nhl level other than punch. Someone like McCarty would be great. McKee can't even handle the college game, do you really believe that he has anything to contribute to an nhl team, or are you just that desperate to see fights?

UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to marcaractac in Mike McKee
You see, teams like to win hockey games this day and age. Coaching has come a long way, and players who can't play hockey nop longer have use. If you like fights, there is almost always boxing or UFC to watch.

UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to kickazz in AA
I'm sure there's a legit reason behind it. Like I know we all think Blashill has idiotic tendencies. But this would be way borderline mental if he has him on 4th line for purely "demotion" reasons. And so far with the minutes Larkin is getting (18 minutes last game) it seems like he's being worked for sure.
-
UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to PavelValerievichDatsyuk in AA
At least Larkin doesn't play all of each game on the 4th line. You could see him with Z and Mantha for a goal last game, with Vanek and Nyquist for another goal and plenty of other shifts.
Maybe Larkin on the 4th line is just a strategy to give Larkin some lower competition to get used to the center position. Or maybe a way to double shift him.
-
UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to marcaractac in Mike McKee
He'll get a shot if he can prove he can play hockey. So far he hasn't done that.
-
UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to kickazz in AA
Larkin was demoted to 4th line or whatever but he's still averaging 1st line minutes. Blashill's attempting to run 4 scoring lines but obviously people are pissed because they see it as a demotion for Larkin rather than a balancing of the lines especially with all the injuries we have. Not saying I approve of this, but this is the only explanation I could think of.

UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to kliq in 12/4 GDT - Red Wings 4 at Islanders 3 (OT)
Not sure why you say this with such disdain.
Babs comes across to me like a guy who has goals and loves a challenge. He's won a cup in Detroit and won Olympic Gold, there isn't really much left for him to accomplish. Taking a team that has been the laughing stock of the league for years, arguable the hardest team to coach because of the intense pressure of the fans and media and guiding them to a cup, that is likely a challenge that motivates him. Call it ego, fine but the guy has earned the right to do what he wants. Who are we to judge him.

We definitely have issues, but this isn't one that I think of as a problem.
