timothy1997 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2006 Time to derail the rematch talk for a bit. Getting tiresome. Here's a question I've kind of been bouncing around in my head all season: If the Big Ten were to expand to 12, and Notre Dame was totally out of the question, what school would be ideal? Some of the usual candidates: West Virginia Iowa State Missouri The last two are Big 12 schools and as such, would be fantastically difficult to pry away. West Virginia is the crown jewel of the Big East, having lost Miami, VT, and BC. So they'd be hard too. My choice would be none other than Miami of Ohio. Because of their Bo-Woody ties, they're forever linked to the Big Ten in some small way. They almost always play a Big Ten team every year. And they're the one MAC school with any football tradition. They'd jump at the chance to join the Big Ten, and the MAC couldn't really say no. They had an awful year this year, but with Northwestern and Illinois still running around, it's not like they'd suddenly be the dregs. Plus, I think it'd have an effect on them similar to what happened when Virginia Tech joined the ACC. Tech is now a school to reckon with in basketball, in just their third ACC season, where before they were a doormat. I always thought that Sryacuse would be a good fit in the Big Ten conference. They have a solid basketball team and every once in a while have a good football team.

They have a solid basketball team and every once in a while have a good football team. Not a bad idea. I dunno if I dig it geographically. That's part of the reason I like Miami. But Syracuse definitely fits the "tradition" bill.
gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted November 22, 2006 What I don't want is for Michigan to beat Ohio State on Jan 8th. Then who the hell is National Champions. Under that scenario, Ohio State can claim a share of the title and Michigan would have a tranished championship. Bulls***. If Michigan gets a rematch and wins, its no different than Pittsburgh losing to Indianapolis in the NFL regular season last year then beating them in the playoffs. The BCS, like it or not, is college football's playoff. If Michigan gets their rematch and wins, then they are the National Champs under the system in place. I'd love to see them get their shot on a better field.

I remember one in particular where Breaston had the guy beat when he cut back right, but his feet just kept going for about a yard to the left. Would have been a huge play if the field hadn't given way.

About a year ago on the U-M boards it said it would be ND first choice (but they would reject b/c they are scared of a real schedule, and love the money) After that probably Miami of Ohio (like you mentioned), and Pitt. Pitt doesn't play PSU anymore, and thats wrong b/c of there rivalry. I think Pitt is a good choice b/c then PSU can stop hatin us, and they are respectable at both basketball and football Edited November 22, 2006 by mannysBETTER3434
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted November 22, 2006 ND's refusal to join the Big 10 doesn't have as much to do with the fact that they would supposedly play a tougher schedule than the fact they'd have to give up all their NBC money. Obviously, ND is the best choice to join the Big 10, but it just ain't going to happen.

Notre Dame gets 100% of the money being an independant
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted November 24, 2006 Wow Texas lost to A&M. Tonight is the big game: USC/ND. I really think ND will win just because of what happend last season.

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2006 well so much for Arkansas. Lost to LSU and looks now like its either going to be USC/Florida/Michigan facing Ohio State now.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted November 25, 2006 well so much for Arkansas. Lost to LSU and looks now like its either going to be USC/Florida/Michigan facing Ohio State now. I didn't really expect Arkansas to make it through. They'd have had to beat LSU and Florida, and get Notre Dame to beat USC.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted November 25, 2006 I had a feeling this would be a step into the mud game for Arkansas, I also have a hunch Florida is in for a serious battle as well. Both of them are great teams but caught in a situation where the opponent will be laying it all out on the line and giving it their all. If Arkansas only had even a decent QB there'd be no stopping them...McFadden is unbelievable. Even the backup is good as hell too! I really hope Arkansas wins the SEC and it put up against Michigan. I hope its not Michigan/Cal though...thats just not intriguing to me at all! Aside from the whole tradition thing, but i think thats thrown out the window given both teams came in 2nd. Its kinda lame imo. Hmmmm...
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted November 25, 2006 Naw, the SEC champ is slated for the Sugar Bowl, I think. I'm hoping for a Michigan-Cal Rose Bowl. I want USC in the Rose Bowl On U-M boards it sounds like if USC wins out we will play LSU in Rose Bowl. I don't know how that works out, but thats the talk
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted November 25, 2006 Id much rather see Michigan against one of the SEC teams. Cal/Mich would probably be a pretty tight game but i think we all know Michigan's a lock to win that. Michigan against LSU would definitely be more interesting if that were to happen. I want them against one of LSU, Florida, or Arkansas.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted November 25, 2006 Why do I have a sick feeling that we will re-match ND in a bowl? If that happend I would throw up. Its the same feeling OSU fans have towards playing U-M again.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted November 25, 2006 I agree, that would be disgusting if they did that. I really dont think they would though since the game was so lopsided. Since Notre Dame is a draw they need to just throw them up against i dont know, someone like Rutgers or Boise St....one of the lesser known teams.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted November 25, 2006 Am I the only one who can't stand Tim Tebow, Floirda's backup QB? I don't hate him as a person, I'm sure he's a good guy, but he is so 1-dimensional as a QB it's ridiculous, yet he still makes plays more often than not.
