I bet it was Oregon's coach, trying to keep the Wolverines ranked so the Ducks wouldn't take them lightly this weekend.

As impressed as I was with LSU dominating Virginia Tech, I'm really getting tired of people down here handing them the keys to the National Championship after just week 2. There's still 10 games to play, plus the SEC Championship, assuming they get there. Let's keep our pants on. I was encouraged though that their offense moved the ball against a solid defense just about every series.

Wish my school didn't run out of gas against UT. Not surprised we lost a 10-0 halftime lead though. We were playing at Texas and McCoy and their offense were going to start meshing eventually. It was 17-10 eventually during the 4th quarter. After TCU bobbled a punt and they went up 27-10 in the 4th after that error, it was all but over then. With TCU's starting running back (who was pre-season confernece player of the year) injured and a redshirt freshman QB making just his second start, and first one on the road in a bigtime stadium and team, that's just too much to overcome. The QB didn't stink by any stretch of the imagination, but that's just an overwhelming situation to be in.

A lot of the big non-BCS teams screwed the pooch last week (TCU, Boise State @ Washington, BYU @ UCLA, Hawaii nearly goofed against LA TECH), but I still think my school has a chance, albeit a very narrow one to get into BCS. They'd have to win out and win the conference and we'll see what happens. Despite losing by 21, the game was much closer until about 3/4 of the 4th qtr was done.

Boise State might be in the same realm even after their loss, but it'd be much more difficult. I just don't know about their schedule. Not to say that the Mountain West schedule is "that much tougher" than the WAC, the WAC certainly has some decent teams, but from an overall perspective (not just 1 or 2 really good teams), the Mountain West has a little better play/teams.

Hence me thinking my school still has somewhat of a small chance if they keep winning. And I've seen us put long win streaks together these past 2 seasons. 10 in a row after a bad loss early in 2005, and 8 wins to close the season out last year after losing 2 in a row to be at 3-2 at one point. It's going to be very tough if not close to impossible, but it can still happen.

Hawaii, I just don't think they'll get in because of their crappy schedule outside the conference. Washington I can give them some kudos on. But UNLV? Northern Colorado? Charleston Southern? Come on now...

Throwing them in the title game makes them worthy of playing for the championship. Michigan, right now, doesnt even deserve to be playing for the 1-AA title and is an embarrassment to NCAA Div 1 and the Big Ten Conference.

Dude, having a bad year doesn't make them an embarrassment. It's awfully hard to read your posts when it seems every one of them is somehow built around how much you personally don't like Michigan.

dude, ready my sentence more closely. The key phrase is "RIGHT NOW". This post was taken right after the Appy State loss and when you look at Michigan football historically, that loss is embarrassing to alumni and teams of past. Don't put words in my mouth.

No way did I say or even imply that Michigan doesn't have a good football program. As a MSU fan, I would love to have the tradiition and history the University of Michigan has in their football program.

I think your way off base when you say that my posts are confusing here in this thread and somehow built all around my hatred for Michigan.

Washington is looking a lot tougher than it did at the beginning of the season. I think as long as Ohio State can hold onto the ball (5 TO's last week) they'll come out with a good win. Top ranked defense in the nation (after YSU and Akron) should be good enough to hold the surprising Huskies down.

woohoo go Air Force 3 and 0 without the option. (Sorry SWF)

Thankfully I don't yel or rant and rave really at sports anymore and take this stuff too seriously, cause I can guarantee you many people back in Fort Worth are probably on suicide watch right now. Nevertheless, that was a pretty pathetic and embarassing loss.

There was no logical reason for TCU to lose that game last night, but almost every time they got around Air Force's red-zone they just were terrible...

Two interceptions in the red zone...

A fumble by one of their RB's in the red zone...

A 20-yard field goal blocked...

And a field goal off the upright in overtime...

That's 4, FOUR, blown scoring opportunities in the red zone TCU easily probably could have had, at the very worst, 3 more field goals if they didn't just play like asshats in the redzone. There was absolutely no logical reason for this game to go into overtime.

I understand being worn out after a tough game at Texas on Saturday and a short time turnover, but the outcome of the game was an absolute joke. To say TCU beat themselves is a huge understatement. This is a type of game I'd rather lose by 40 instead of a slim margin, to see your team just screw up so much when you are right there to put points on the board over and over again and don't do it, that's just difficult to watch.

A conference championship is still up for grabs and I'd be happy with that, but bye bye any chances for the BCS for TCU (again).

Give Air Force all the kudos in the world for playing their butts off on defense and making plays.

Yeah, but the biggest play of the game was an option on 4th and 1.

In my opinion this wasn't a very exciting game to watch; two teams that wouldn't attempt more than a 10 yard pass.

Not true, we threw a pass of 10+ yards with a 1/2 minute left for an interception when the damn game was tied and we were well in field goal range with timeouts left when we should've just run the damn ball once/twice to kick an easier field goal and play the better odds. Kick a field goal then, and you go home...

One of the worst play calls I've seen recently. RUN THERE, DON'T PASS!

Well, I wasn't meaning there were NO passes longer than that. Just that the play calling for both teams was too conservative for my tastes. I'm not a football purist, I like to be entertained with big plays. :D

I know, I'm just still baffled why we would even pass in that scenario.

Air Force is still definitely a ball-control offense even though they are passing a bit more this year.

TCU's always been a team that likes to run the ball, even after L. Tomlinson graduated in 2000. You probably saw from Thursday night's game that we CAN pass it, but we've never been a school that relies solely on it, I don't see us throw deep all that often. We win on offense that's normally either run/short passes first, then do some play action.

In terms of run/pass ratio of plays that TCU WANTS to do I think to play effectively, we're probably 65%/35%.

I cant believe Im liking a freshman more than Henne. But thats just how it is. Im hoping Henne never starts another game for us. Mallett is the man! Absolutely punishing the Irish. I cant believe Im finally able to say this, but, Hail to the Victors baby!!!

btw, I'm curious as to what happened to you at law school at State that made you dislike UM so much? Seen as how you didn't go to undergrad there, I'm just wondering..... I grew up in EL watching the Spartans then moved to A2 for college, so I root for both teams, but I take Blue over Green in the state rival game.

Grew up in Lansing, been a Spartan my whole life. I almost went there for undergrad, but I decided I needed to get farther away from home.

Not to rain on your parade, but Henne would have done the same thing to Notre Dame that Mallett has. Mike Hart opened up the passing game by forcing ND to bring eight guys in the box. Mallett has a superb arm, but Hart and a poor defense really made Mallett look better than he probably is right now.

Honestly, I wouldn't get too excited about beating a Notre Dame team comprised of freshman and sophomores. I've never seen a college football team struggle to snap the ball in the shotgun or get a first down like Notre Dame has. It doesn't help they have the worst offensive line in college football. Three games into the season and still no offensive touchdowns pretty much tells the whole story.

Congratulations on the win, but also take into consideration the opponent. There aren't many teams that wouldn't beat Notre Dame right now.

Well first off, you kinda made my point for me. A freshman was able to go in there and do the same thing our senior would have done. That's beautiful. And no matter how s***ty the Irish D is, it's still a college football defense. And for a freshman to go in there and light it up from all angles, is fantastic to see. And Mallett didnt cause one turnover. Unlike Henne, who likes to throw to the other jerseys. And at this point, after the horrible first 2 weeks of Michigan's season, I dont care who it is, we just demolished a team and finally got a win. Nothing you can say will bring me down. Im happy with the win.

No this is Chad's team. Ryan will be the man next year. Henne is a much better QB. Glad to see him get in a big game though, and not make a huge mistake.

That was an ugly, ugly game by MSU, but I'll take the win.

The thing that impressed me was MSU's defense. I felt going into the season that Caulcrick and Ringer would be a great 1-2 HB combo and Kellen Davis and Devan Thomas would probably see the ball more under this new coach. My concern was the defense, especially the cornerbacks. Nice to see them step up and have a big game. Now hopefully MSU has reached the top 25, if not...the top 30.

I don't think that win will be enough to get MSU in the top 25. Maybe if it had been a complete, UAB like domination it would have been enough. But, I think it will put the Spartans around 30-40. A good win over ND could move MSU into the top 25 though. Not that ND is good, but if they can put a whoopin' on the Irish like UM did, people should take notice.

The defense was very impressive yesterday. They made some huge plays when it counted. That's the type of game that under JLS, the team would have just rolled over and died. Nice to see they can handle some adversity.

I wasn't trying to bring you down. I said congratulations on the win. Besides, if losing to Appalachian State doesn't bring you down, nothing will. :D

Mallett has a very bright future at Michigan. I'm not disputing that. However, if you think Mallett gives Michigan a better chance of beating Penn State next weekend, or Wisconsin and Ohio State in the future, then I disagree. Henne has four years of playing experience, and a wealth of offensive weapons around him. If Michigan wants any shot at the Big Ten, Henne should be the starter.

If Notre Dame wants to win any of their first eight games, this Saturday will be their best and only chance. Great year to play a completely brutal schedule.

Notre Dame hasn't beaten Michigan State in South Bend since 1993 when George Perles was running the Spartans. :yowza:

Times are a-changin'. I see MSU handling them pretty easily. Not as dominant as the Michigan victory. But I still see the Spartans winning by atleast a few TDs.
