The age does concern me though, cause if he's not dishing the hits out then he's pretty much pointless out there. That's the way I looked at it. While you know Asham is my #1 choice, I always liked Drake, and he's pretty entertaining to watch. It's not like he's terrible at what he does either: Even though he's getting older, he still lays crushing open ice checks. I am glad Holland signed him. And the only reason I can come up with is that Holland wanted to add grit...but at a really cheap price and only on a one year contract. I cant imagine Asham taking a paycut from the 1M he made last year, so maybe Asham isnt backing down from a 1.5M long term deal. But even if Asham wanted 3 or 4 years, i dont really see what the problem is with that. I dont think it would be all that difficult to ensure a spot for him. Now that the Wings sign him, he's a great gritty addition to the team. Typical bi-polar behavior here at LGW. Nicely put. He's a cheapshot artist who brings nothing else to the table but a lack of respect toward other players. Apparently he's a great guy now that he's a Wing. I also find it funny that Holland has been boo-hooing to everyone about money woes, but then goes out and throws a million at Drake for what? To say, see I added someone new? What a joke. Yeah, I know what you mean. I wish Holland would just sign Asham too. I'm very happy for the Drake signing, but like you, I wish the Wings had a fighter also. I don't know why Holland is so afraid to sign a player who fights. Guys like Asham or Adam Hall (my 2nd choice) aren't exactly cavemen on skates either: both of these guys proved at various points in their careers that they could put up decent points while being a fighter at the same time. The 1.1 million you heard is what he's being paid from St. Louis from the contract buyout. And please, just humor me on this one: Don't make some lame ass joke like "boy he must really suck if St. Louis bought him out!!!!1one!!11!!!1!!!!111!!!1". The reason the Wings got knocked out of the playoffs this year had nothing to do with getting pushed around and everything to do with not putting the puck in the net when it mattered and injuries. Top of my head, let's say I mention Scott Stevens ... most think "feared hitter". Dallas Drake goes looking to lowbridge and hurt guys. Cmon now. Nothing about his game is what the Wings need. You might've said that LAST summer, when alot of us doubted the makeup of this team and whether they could stand up to physical play. This team proved alot of us wrong. But the 2007/2008 season?
