Tomas Kopecky

I thought Kopecky played maybe his best game of the year last night filling in for Dan Cleary as a top 6 forward and deserves more ice time. Speaking of the Newf, whats his status?

yea i really liked how he played last night, especially how he had words with pronger or someone else after each whistle...i dont think pronger wanted to fight him because they were almost at the same eye level

Hey, he's the only Wing this year who's beaten anyone up in a fight now that I think about it.

Cleary is a dumb ass for fighting Pronger... if anyone is going to fight him atleast let it be someone who can send a message, and someone who we can afford to lose.

I think Kopecky is playing great, but I totally disagree that Cleary is a dumb ass. As many times as I've seen Pronger go after people half his size, it was refreshing to see the little guy not hesitate, and really get in a few nice rights to that stupid jerk. I'd have rather seen Downey, but there you go.

Like any young-ish player, Kopecky is struggling with consistency. There are nights that he is piss poor, and you can tell he still gets nervous when he handles the puck sometimes, but in general I think he's a good bottom six winger and he's progressing nicely. Probably not worth second-line icetime though.

He definitely did have his best game of the season last night I think, but I wouldn't expect him to get his minutes increased that much, especially when the wingers get completely healthy. I was never really down on him at all this season, but if he can maintain the aggressive play that he displayed last night, it could give some offensive boost to the 3rd or 4th line.

Kopy's playing great, yes, but the problem is everyone else is too. A little bit more ice time for Kopy would be great, but unless someone is hurt, I don't think babs is going to give it to him.

Thing is, it must be hard for the kid to develop his game and gain some confidence when you're only playing 5 minutes a night. The only way he'll get more ice time is if we get 2 or 3 injuries up front.

Agree'd to an extent.

There doesn't need to be injuries for him to get more PT. Instead of having him on 4th line for the 5minutes, they could throw him on the 2nd or 3rd for a shift here or there. Nothing big, But just enough to get his feet wet.

Anyway, While giving Props to Kopecky. Ellis has played good as of late also, Looks like he is getting quicker also.

The problem with Kopy is that he is inconsistent. He also does not seem to use his size enough, if he can play like he did against Anaheim and use his size effectively night in and night out, then he will get more minutes. I do agree to an extent that his lack of mintues makes it tough for him to develop but his inconsistent play is still a factor.

Don't be a fool. How could you forget about the PAIN TRAIN!!?? :P

Well, as I've posted before, no one wants to open up with the "PAIN TRAIN". To me all 3 of his fights this year have been wins based on general principle. However, because of the wrestling tactics of his opponents, those were not dominant wins.

Wow, Cleary fought Pronger? That's pretty impressive. Anyone got a video?

Never mind, found one. Cleary really does a great job fighting someone that much taller. And Pronger gives him a couple of shots when he's down, what a surprise.

Hehe, Steve Begin must have been really intimidated by the presence of the PAIN TRAIN. He grabbed onto him like their was a tornado coming or something. :P

How is Cleary a dumb ass? Because he actually stood up to Pronger for once, unlike anyone else on the Red Wings? That takes some serious balls to fight a much-bigger Pronger, while also knowing that any punch to his mouth can't possibly make his teeth any worse.

Regarding Kopecky, no he doesn't deserve more playing time. The Anaheim game was by far his best performance of the season, but can he play at that level on a consistent basis? Besides, at whose expense are you going to give Kopecky's minutes to? If Kopecky could use his size and play physical a little more often, his value would grow to the Red Wings.

I'm not ready to annoint Kopecky the second-line center after one solid performance.

Come on guys.

I've been driving the Kopecky wagon since he was in juniors, and I think you guys are all jumping the gun here.

I have been pushing to see Kopecky on the wing on the second line, but that's more because I have confidence in his abilities as well as a desire to spread the scoring more evenly than it had been. I also think it would be good for the team for him to develop as more of a banging winger on a scoring line, and therefore I would like to see that development encouraged. As far as his play thus far; he hasn't earned anything higher than third or fourth line; the only reason to give him more time is if you think he'll either be better than the guy who's there, or if he'll develop into the time in a fairly quick manner.

I would bet money that Kopecky is gone at the deadline. If not this year then the next but he will be traded just like J-willy for his lack of physical play.

Anyone remember how many times Babs told Williams to finish his checks, hit, go to the net. I remember hearing it in interviews, reading it in the Freep, on Mlive. Then he got traded I don't think it was a coincidence. If Kopecky continues to play the passive style he is choosing to play many nights his ass is gone.

^^ Seeing as hows Babs says nothing but good things about Kopay, I'd beg to differ.

Yes he should get more playing time. You play your ass off and make a difference then you deserve to get more PT and if that means someone else who's not playing as good at the moment is going to see a diminish in their ice time then so be it. Babs rewards his players when putting an effort like Tommy did. He'll get more ice time. Especially if he keeps it up.
