I posted the following questions last off-season. I just remembered about the thread, and so I decided to tally up the relevant questions and see what our predictions looked like.

1. Will Kronwall reach #1/#2 Dman status within his current contract (next 5 years)?

56% of LGWers said NO. Yet hes a worthy #2 Dman right now on any other NHL team, and maybe his own.

2. Will Grigorenko prove to be a capable top 6 forward this season?

67% said NO. He didnt make the lineup.

3. Will Hudler score 20+ goals this season?

73% said yes. HOWEVER, almost everyone who said yes said it would be contingent upon his getting top 6 minutes. He finished 9th in ice time among forwards and finished with 13 goals, 42 points. With #6 ice time, he would've finished with 17 goals, 54 points.

4. Will Filppula have a 45pt season?

80% said YES. He finished with 36 points, but 19 goals.

5. Will Lilja get in more than 5 fights?

78% said NO. Lilja had 3 fighting majors.

6. Will Rafalski have a career offensive year?

67% said YES. Raffi tied his career high in points, but did so in 9 fewer games. He had a career high in goals.

Special shoutout to BeeRyce who said Raffi will be on par for career high in points, but will have a new career high in goals, and Vangvace who said Raffi will tie his career high in points.

7. Does Cleary turn out to be a one hit wonder, or does he repeat with another 20+ goal showing?

58% said REPEAT. Cleary had exactly 20 goals and 42 points - a career high in points.

So, with the off-season at most only a week away, I propose another prediction quiz:

1. Will Lidstrom finish next season as a Norris Nominee?

2. He finished the season with 27 goals, despite spending much of the season in the bottom 6. With a regular top six role, can Franzen score 40 goals?

3. Will the Wings have a 100 point man? a 50 goal man? If yes, who?

4. Will a rookie defenseman find himself with a regular roster spot? If yes, who?

5. Will Howard back-up Ozzie with a winning record and a good statistical showing?

6. Out of Filppula, Samuelsson, and Hudler, who tallies the most points? Most goals?

7. Which Darren makes the top 13 forwards - McCarty, Helm or Both?

8. Does Kopecky score either of 10 goals or 20 points?

9. His playoff scoring rate would equate to 54 points on a regular season. Can Niklas Kronwall break 50 points next regular season?

10. Predict the number of Red Wing wins for next season, and their number of wins against Chicago ( :P ).

Good revisit to an old post, kind of neat to see the results. My answers to your questions are as follows...

1) Yes, norris candidate for at least the next two seasons.

2) 40? No.. may get in the high 20's/low 30's

3) I think Zetterberg will break the 100 point mark, as balanced as scoring is, I don't see a 50+ goal scorer next season.

4) Nope.

5) I think Ozzie will be #1, and I think Howard will be a sound back-up, maybe pitch out two shutouts during the season.

6) I predict Hudler with the most points and goals of the three.

7) Helm makes the lineup, I think Darren McCarty will be the 13th man.

8) I see Kopecky as a non-factor, won't play many games and won't break 20 points.

9) I see 40 points, 50 is a stretch for next season. Give him one more season before he puts up those kinds of numbers.

10) 54 Wins, 4-1-1 against Chicago (if they play 6 games against them)

1. Will Lidstrom finish next season as a Norris Nominee?

Yes. Nick has a lot in the tank, and will be at least a Norris nominee if not the winner assuming he is healthy all year.

2. He finished the season with 27 goals, despite spending much of the season in the bottom 6. With a regular top six role, can Franzen score 40 goals?

No, he'll be defended much better this year. I think he'll break 30 goals, but now that the whole league knows about him I don't think he'll reach 40.

3. Will the Wings have a 100 point man? a 50 goal man? If yes, who?

Hank and Z will both have about 100 points, and the wings won't have anyone reach 50 goals.

4. Will a rookie defenseman find himself with a regular roster spot? If yes, who?

Yes, Meech will be one of our top six d-men this year.

5. Will Howard back-up Ozzie with a winning record and a good statistical showing?

Yes, Howard will be a bit inconsistent but show very promising flashes and will win about half of his games with solid stats.

6. Out of Filppula, Samuelsson, and Hudler, who tallies the most points? Most goals?

Filpula will score close to 60 points if he plays on a line with Franz. Hudler will lead that group in goal with roughly 25.

7. Which Darren makes the top 13 forwards - McCarty, Helm or Both?

Helm will earn a permanent spot on the fourth line, McCarty won't be back.

8. Does Kopecky score either of 10 goals or 20 points?

No, I expect not to play in many games, and to get minimal ice time in those he does play in.

9. His playoff scoring rate would equate to 54 points on a regular season. Can Niklas Kronwall break 50 points next regular season?

Yes, Kronner will be right around 50 points.

10. Predict the number of Red Wing wins for next season, and their number of wins against Chicago.

52 wins, 6 against the Hawks.

Yes, of course.

2. He finished the season with 27 goals, despite spending much of the season in the bottom 6. With a regular top six role, can Franzen score 40 goals?

I think there is a great possibilty for it, but I'm going to say no that he will get 35 barring serious injury.

3. Will the Wings have a 100 point man? Yes, Pavel

a 50 goal man? If yes, who? If anyone, it'll be Hank.

4. Will a rookie defenseman find himself with a regular roster spot? If yes, who?

Mmmmmm... no...

5. Will Howard back-up Ozzie with a winning record and a good statistical showing?

I don't think Howard will be the backup, but if he is, I would expect him to have a split record and a mostly good statistical showing.

6. Out of Filppula, Samuelsson, and Hudler, who tallies the most points? Most goals?

Fil will have the most points, especially if he stays on a line with Franz. Huddles will have the most goals out of the three.

Can you post a link to that wonderful, original thread. I'd love to see what I guessed.

1. Will Lidstrom finish next season as a Norris Nominee?

-Yes.

2. He finished the season with 27 goals, despite spending much of the season in the bottom 6. With a regular top six role, can Franzen score 40 goals?

-No. My optimistic guess would be low 30's.

3. Will the Wings have a 100 point man? a 50 goal man? If yes, who?

-No. With as much talent as Detroit has no one really needs to get 100pts or 50 goals. However, If anyone did it would obviously be Datsyuk or Zetterberg.

4. Will a rookie defenseman find himself with a regular roster spot? If yes, who?

-Yes and No. Quincey can't pass through waivers anymore and will be in the same boat that Meech was in this past season. Most of you are hoping for Ericsson, but unless he has an absolutely spectacular camp and preseason he will spend 1 more year in GR. I also predict 1 or both of either Lilja or Stuart won't be back, unfortunately.

5. Will Howard back-up Ozzie with a winning record and a good statistical showing?

-If Hasek retires, Howard will undoubtedly be backup. Yes he will have a winning record with decent numbers.

6. Out of Filppula, Samuelsson, and Hudler, who tallies the most points? Most goals?

-Hudler gets the most points. Filppula gets the most goals.

7. Which Darren makes the top 13 forwards - McCarty, Helm or Both?

-McCarty. I have a feeling management would like to see if Helm can develop even further with lots more minutes on the farm.

8. Does Kopecky score either of 10 goals or 20 points?

-1 or the other. I also predict he will change many people's opinion of him in a positive way next year.

9. His playoff scoring rate would equate to 54 points on a regular season. Can Niklas Kronwall break 50 points next regular season?

-No.

10. Predict the number of Red Wing wins for next season, and their number of wins against Chicago ( ).

-49 or more, 5 against Chicago.

Also, Meech doesn't really count for the rookie d-man question... Technically since he has played more than 25 games, this past season was his rookie year. The only answers that would really fit the question would be Quincey, Ericsson or maybe Kindl.

1. Will Lidstrom finish next season as a Norris Nominee? Absolutely.

2. He finished the season with 27 goals, despite spending much of the season in the bottom 6. With a regular top six role, can Franzen score 40 goals? I'm going to go no to that one...was it a hot streak or is he legit? I say both. He'll hit 30, but not 40.

3. Will the Wings have a 100 point man? a 50 goal man? If yes, who? Yes to the 100 points, I'll call Datsyuk on that one. No to the 50 goals, I'll put Z in the mid-40s.

4. Will a rookie defenseman find himself with a regular roster spot? If yes, who? Yes, Jonathan Ericsson.

5. Will Howard back-up Ozzie with a winning record and a good statistical showing? Hope so, right now, all of our "goalie of the future" eggs are in the Howard basket. I think he comes through and learns a lot from one of the best.

6. Out of Filppula, Samuelsson, and Hudler, who tallies the most points? Most goals? Filppula on both, he and Franzen will be our top secondary scorers.

7. Which Darren makes the top 13 forwards - McCarty, Helm or Both? Both. Helm dresses regularly, McCarty is the spare.

8. Does Kopecky score either of 10 goals or 20 points? Woof. Tough one, but given that optimism rules the day right now, I'll say yes.

9. His playoff scoring rate would equate to 54 points on a regular season. Can Niklas Kronwall break 50 points next regular season? No. He was going at a good clip and it still projects out to barely over 50. He'll start hitting that number on a regular basis once he starts getting top-2 ice though.

10. Predict the number of Red Wing wins for next season, and their number of wins against Chicago ( :P ). 52 and 1 ;)
