Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted July 14, 2008 Mark Ferner and Vincent Riendeau. On a serious note, I'd say guys like Probie, Dino, Gallant, John Ogrodnick, Mike Sillenger, Shawn Burr, and maybe a few others would be who comes to mind. Jiri Slegr I know he just was passing on through and no one knows what happened to him after 02!! He won the Cup though filling in for Fischer. I never understood why they didn't keep him or what the deal was. The Wings didn't keep Slegr because he wasn't very good. The only reason he was a top defenseman in Atlanta is because at that time the Thrashers were still a fairly new team, and most of their defenseman were still castoffs from other teams that went unprotected in the waiver draft. He actually did return to the NHL for a couple of seasons afterwards (with Vancouver and Boston), but he's long gone now. He's not at all suited for the new NHL. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted July 14, 2008 Good one. I liked Primeau too. Great player. Rough career. Underachiever. Whiner. Scotty had a way of knowing what a player's potential was and demanded it out of him, especially if they had the chance to be extra-special. Stevie responded. Sergei responded. Primeau pouted. I was glad to see his ass shipped out of town, and it was one of the best trades the Wings have EVER made.

imisssergei 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2008 I see a lot of people mentioning Burr, I hate that mofo. He is a first class @hole. He plays pick-up hockey with a group of guys I skate with, obviously he is the best on the ice, as none of us have ever played in the NHL. But he has no problem with winding up for a slapshot from the hash, and putting everything into it. The worst part is he can't hit the net from there, so there is a puck screaming towards who-knows-where! And he is a jerk off the ice too. Enough about him. I would have loved to seen Shep and Silly win one. I lost all respect for Probie after I found out he was on crack. I don't care what he did after that, I was just a kid, and that really bothered me. I wish the Wings would have never traded for Hasek, that way Ozzie and Kozlov would have won more Cups with the Wings. Dino for sure.

I was glad to see his ass shipped out of town, and it was one of the best trades the Wings have EVER made. I don't really remember the whining (not to say it didn't happen), but I was definitely glad to see Primeau go, after seasons of watching him drive hard to the net only to lose and edge or lose control of the puck right in front of the goaltender. After years of unfulfilled potential, I think it was good for him to get out of Detroit too. And honestly, I was happy he finally started to live up to that potential even if it took a long while. After years of unfulfilled potential, I think it was good for him to get out of Detroit too. And honestly, I was happy he finally started to live up to that potential even if it took a long while. I seem to remember him and Scotty clashing over ice time, among other issues, during the 95-96 season and it coming to a head in the 96 playoffs. I think he might even have been benched, I'm not sure, but I think he was. I would say he never did live up to expectations. He was always a very good secondary-scorer type, but he was a very high draft pick and looked like a man amongst boys in the lower levels. Could have been a Joe Thornton-type, and Scotty didn't want secondary scoring from him. So the Wings traded him for the player they wanted him to be: Shanahan. skippy_kenn 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2008 well here are votes 1.) Steve Chiasson (R.I.P.) 2.) Mark Howe 3.) Shawn Burr 4.) Brent Fedyk (He was friends with my next door neighbors when I was growing up and they would have him autograph sticks and pucks for me, had he won it I may have had a chance to touch or sip from the cup) 5.) Gerald Gallant 6.) Adam Oates 7.) Paul (Rocket Man) Ysebaert 8.) Dino Ciccarelli 9.) Bob Probert 10.) Petr Klima
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 14, 2008 I'd have to go with Gallant first and foremost. In his prime with the Wings he was averaging 70+ points and 200+ PIM. But I'd also say Probert, Oates, and Chiasson.
ashenhigh 9 Report post Posted July 14, 2008 Ill have to go with Chiasson just because he had a tragic end to his career and was soooo damn good in NHL 94 despite his crappy overall. How did Steve Chiasson pass again? Drunk driving and slammed into a tree right? damn shame.
metalwinger_13 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2008 hmm... ill say Yves Racine, Terry Carkner, and Timmy Chevaldae and Cory Cross My actual list would be Probie Dino Hatch ( be cool to see a hometown boy win it .. again) Stevie Thomas Wendal Clark

Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 Haven't known the Wings long enough for this game, but the look on Steve Yzerman's face after being beaten by the Oilers in the Twilight of his career, that will stick with me. I'd trade this year's cup for one then... :/
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 (edited) Pat Verbeek basically came here right in between the 98 and 01 cup. I would've liked to see him hoist the cup in red and white. YES! Two for Little Ball of Hate (see my sig)! Sticking to the rules of the game (pre-1997) though, I'll be the first to throw out a vote for Reed Larson (unless I missed it). Probie, Primeau, Cheveldae and Gallant are all somewhere on my list though. Edit: Shawn Burr's worth the trouble to edit the post and give him a mention. selkie 10 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 Back when the web was young, I spent a lot of time lurking on the old Red Wings mailing list out of msu.edu During that time, BKP (Big Keith Primeau) generated a truly Sammy-like amount of hate from the list posters for his chronic underachieving and boneheaded moves. Ya i gotta agree with you on that one. when i was younger, my hockey team played the port huron flags in the regional semis. We beat them 2-1 but he was cursing and hollering the entire game. Well not the entire game I supposse, he got tossed by the second periord. I also referee and after talking to some officials, its almost a game by game basis that he was thrown out. And lets see here....i must've been 15 at the time!

imisssergei 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Next time ya play shinny with Burr - you should spear him in the nutz I was happy to see Kozlov moved; IMO he was getting rather lazy/sloppy. Probert has his demons, but it sounds as though he's come to grips with them, & has turned his life around. I'd love to spear him. However, despite his rapid weight gain, and sharp decline in skill since leaving the NHL, he is still pretty damn good. Not to mention I'm sure he whoop my ass. Although it would make a great story! I like Kozlov a lot. I think he got a bad rep because he wasn't nearly as good as Sergei was at either end of the ice.
