Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted September 4, 2009 Make your predictions for the upcoming year so you can annoy everyone next year how you were right! My predictions: Leino scores 35+ goals Flyers-Wings Finals The All-Star Shootout is interesting for once. Coyotes don't play a game in Canada this season. Bettman (as a scapegoat for the owners) gets fired for the Coyotes debacle. (a man can dream, no?) We see the first public demonstration of what happens to a team over the cap and/or Hossa contract is nullified. Canada-Gold, Sweden-Silver, Russia-Bronze
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted September 4, 2009 Those are some pretty lofty predictions. Especially because there is no all-star shootout this year. The Wings win the Cup. That's my only prediction, and you can take that to the bank.

Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted September 4, 2009 (edited) My predictions: -Leino scores 15 goals and gets just under 50 points -The Finals will be made up of either Washington or the Flyers, or Detroit or Vancouver. -Coyotes do play a game in Canada this season. -The NHLPA will remain divided after Paul Kelly's firing, and they wont hire a replacement before Christmas. -Marian Hossa gets no more then 30 points in his injury riddled season, and scores fewer then 5 goals for the Hawks in the playoffs ( they lose to in the second round, mainly because of poor goaltending and Karma owing to Patrick Kane being a *****). -Canada-Gold, Russia-Silver, Sweden-Bronze -Franzen scores just under 40 goals. -Datsyuk finally scores over 100pts. -Zetterberg scores around 80pts. -Filppula tops 50 points -Bertuzzi scores 25 goals -Lidstrom re-signs for 1 more year at a reduced salary slightly under 5 million. -Ericsson is amazing. wings-fan for life 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2009 (edited) Ya know... I actually thought about that and couldn't remember if they have it on Olympic years, so I went with it. The Wings won in 98 and 02, which were both Olympic years, and Carolina took the Cup in 06, the most recent Olympic year, so we obviously can and have done it before. My predicitons... Canada Gold, Sweeden Silver, Russia Bronze Wings win the Central, but by four points or less Nashville will be the only team from our division to not make the playoffs...again The Kings and/or Panthers will make the Playoffs this year Pittsburgh won't make the playoffs San Jose will NOT lose in the first round of the playoffs this year Wings-Ducks Conference Final Flyers-Caps Conference Final Boston and New Jersey will both be stunned in early rounds by a low seeded team (again) As for the Wings themselves Datysuk and Z both score 40 (or more) goals, yet Z will score more goals yet have less points than Datsyuk Datsyuk, however, scores 100+ points, Zetterburg makes 90+ Franzen scores 35-38 goals and makes 85-88 points Filpulla, Helm, Cleary, and Bertuzzi each score 20 goals (or more) and of course, we win the Cup and my bold one....Rafalski outscores Lidstrom in Goals and in Points this year (not by many, say 2-4 goals, and 5-7 points total) Edited September 4, 2009 by wings-fan for life
Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted September 4, 2009 Wings win 50+ again, and the Central, and the Cup Anaheim or Calgary miss the playoffs Hank scores 90+, wins the Selke Pav breaks 100 Leino starts hot, but fades early Lilja doesn't play again Homer scores 25+ goals, retires after season anyway Pronger becomes the most hated man in Pittsburgh Washington wins the PT, loses in first round One of the big 3 (Russia, Canada, Sweden) will not win a medal
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted September 4, 2009 Chicago stumbles out of the gate and under all the pressure and finishes a 5-8 playoff seed Sens make the playoffs Flyers win the Atlantic Pens don't do as well as expected and finish a 5-8 playoff seed Zetterberg gets 45+ goals Canada over Russia for Gold in OT, Sweden over USA for Bronze Leafs miss playoffs in 9th-10th place Works out alright for Montreal and they finish 5-8th but get swept out of round 1 Kovalchuk signs a long-term extension in Atlanta More than 3 players score 50 goals A surprise playoff miss for one of Carolina, New Jersey, or Anahiem Pens don't make it past round 2 Wings travel to the Final and play Bos or Phi (who play the ECF) Sharks get their due and play Wings in WCF but lose in 5 games There's some trade of Thornton-to-Sharks proportions before the Olympic break
tommingthepuck96 1 Report post Posted September 4, 2009 Datysuk 101 points Zetterberg 89 points Franzen 68 points 42 goals if he plays 75+ games. Filppula 60 Points 40 assists if he plays 82 games. Kronwall leads wings D in points and 4th among all NHL defensemen. (Lidstrom+Rafalski might not play a full season) Ericsson also will get hot towards the middle of the season. Leino nets 25 goals Kings make playoffs exit first round. Penguins will have a horrible start to the season but league will help them get back into playoff picture. Wings finish second in the west Flyers finish first in east. Tavares scores 60 points. Team Canada chokes if crosby is named captain (Sorry babcock) Sweden beats russian for gold medal. shoe 165 Report post Posted September 5, 2009 St Louis does better than you might think they will, Leafs get back into the playoffs and the flock of goons and tough defencemen make headlines for their style of play in the 1st round. Some big name player gets hurt bad and they alter the rules because of it. A goalie is due to score a goal again on an open net.
wingfanatic4alltime 32 Report post Posted September 5, 2009 My Predicitions are: Central: Red Wings 50 + wins and 105 or more points, Chicago a 4th seed will be knocked out by the Ducks in the first rd Pacific: Sharks Most likely will get out of the first round but lose in second round Northwest: Calgary will finish 3rd in the conference and lose in the conference final, Canucks will finish 6th Atlantic: Philly i love the moves they made there gonna beat the crap out of Crosby and the pens i see them going to the Finals Northeast: Boston i really dont see anyone else challenging them for the division Southeast: Shock pick I see the Lightning winning the southeast with the Caps finishing 4 to 8 points back but still making the playoffs as a 5 seed Red Wings predicitions I see Dats finally getting 100 pts, Howard proving all the doubters wrong, Ozzie bouncing back, Bert and Williams 10-15 goals each, Hank 40 goals but not 100 pts, Leino and Flip 25 goals. As for the Olympics it will go Gold: Russia Silver: Canada Bronze: Sweden

But seriously. - Wings top of central, but barely. - Wings / Canucks Western Finals. - Caps / Bruins Eastern Finals (If Kessel is kept as Bruin. If not, Caps / Pens). - Zetterberg and Datsyuk will see about the same production they had previous in previous years. +/- 5 points. - Leino is a candidate for the Calder, but probably loses. - Eaves has his best season yet while playing with Darren Helm, and earns himself a two year extension. - Bertuzzi and Williams produce decently, but likely will be let go at the end of the year save for the possibility of a "Dan Cleary" effort. - Filppula, Franzen will see prdocution increases. - Three players will score 50+ goals in the NHL. - Lidstorm has a better season, and resigns for one more year around 4 mil. - Holmstrom retires at the end of the year. Wings sign Maltby to a one year, Chelios type deal. Both he and Draper retire in 2011. - Wings win the cup in 2012, right before the earth explodes as predicted by Nostradomus. That 'bout does it. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted September 6, 2009 Pasha gets his 100 point season. Hank misses a series of games in March, causing panic, but is back for a stellar playoff performance. Filppula has a great season, and people learn to spell his name right. Maltby, realizing that this is his last chance before retiring, plays his heart out in the playoffs. Cleary scores 20 goals in the playoffs by using his beard as a cover for an extra stick. Kopecky scores a goal for Chi. Crosby joins the Facial Hair Club for Men, is mistaken for Bertuzzi, and is not allowed his own press conference after getting an assist. Russia gets the Gold. No one notices that there is no All-Star game. Conn Smythe is a tie between Belfour and Cloutier. (I won't tell you which teams they are playing for.) Barrie 900 Report post Posted September 6, 2009 (edited) I don't think Canada wins a Medal this Olympics. The team is too young, doesn't have enough poise and experience compared to the other countries in Olympic play. The 2006 team on paper was better than 2010, and we all know what happened there. 2002 were the Kings of the Mountain with Yzerman, Sakic, and Lemieux (oosing of class and poise). Other than Neidermayer, who can lead the 2010 team when the going gets tough? Crosby, Getzlaf, and Iginla are too immature... Sweden plays Russia in the Gold Medal Game, and successfully defends Gold. Finland beats Canada for the Bronze. The Wings are still the best team in the West, Chicago has too many off ice problems to pass us this year, plus losing the Bulin Wall hurts. I haven't look at it to closely to make a pick for the East, most of my sports attention right now is on the 1st place Detroit Tigers Edited September 6, 2009 by Barrie
