Well, even though Abdelkader was playing centre, that didn't apply to faceoffs, if I recall correctly, just his role on the ice outside of the circle. Draper is still our best face-off man. Maltby has been playing well since the last post-season, so I wouldn't bench him for as long as Helm is out. Then cycle between him and May, and Eaves as well I guess. Knowing our team, we'll always have people injured, so everyone should get playing time.

Here's to Kopecky and Kane getting run by May. I would include people like Seabrook and Campbell, but let's not forget that they were our best players (and most assists on Detroit goals) in the Chicago series, so let's give them a break.

I just hope that his paperwork is sorted out...

Forget Kopecky and Kane... I wanna see Sharp get whath e deserves for removing one of the greatest defenseman of all time's ******** with his stick.

"Tough guys always play tough and I got no problems with that. But guys who aren't tough and they play against you and they are tough, that drives me crazy." -Babcocks quote

see vid: nobody touched may after this play. if kronwall did this an entire team would be getting their shots in.

so first the poll is in favour of carrying an enforcer, and then the management goes out and gets one

yeah I think it's safe to say that debate is over haha

You wish. "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive!

Yea, that's the ONLY possibility. I'm guessing that there is a little bit more to it than that...

Read Babcock's comments. I'm pretty sure there ain't a whole lot more to it than that late bloomer.

What other reason could there be?

Babcock's comments say it all. He was watching the games. He knew the score so to speak. He saw how teams ran us without May and how they didn't when he was in the lineup.

Babcock bitched

Holland listened/agreed

May gets signed

That pretty much sums it up nicely I think. Let us not forget, Babs has always, ALWAYS had this philosophy that you need some toughness. This isn't the first time he's made comments about it. Downey didn't get signed simply b/c Holland liked his footwork. Anyone with half a brain can realize how desperately this team needed and needs the added element of toughness.

That's an extreme exaggeration and you know it.

Literally almost every post in this thread is positive about May joining the Red Wings. You can stop preaching your tireless act now.

Shhhh, you'll spoil the drama queen's fun. He needs some cause so he can draw attention to himself, even if it requires a mostly fictional opponent to rail against.

I'm guessing this quote from Babcock has been posted already, but just in case. Here it is again. I'm glad this guy is Detroit's coach.

"It was pretty interesting, we had May in a couple of games in exhibition, and no one got hacked or whacked or touched, and then we don't have him and we get run," coach Mike Babcock said, according to the Detroit Free Press. "You get tired of watching it.

"Our guys, I think, do a real good job of competing hard, but we don't have a team that twists off helmets at stoppages, and when you start seeing it all the time, it's just nice when you've got someone to look after that stuff."

This so-called anti-fighting poster just wants to add this quote

We want to roll four lines. Brad May can play, he can make a pass, he can roll around the offensive zone, protect the puck, finish some checks. If he has to drop the gloves, he's comfortable dropping the gloves

This has been the basis of this whole ridiculous, rumbling, boring, annoying argument. Do we want a player who can fight, a Darren McCarty or Martin Lapointe? Or do we want a fighter who can't play, a Brad Norton or Aaron Downey?

If you want the former, then you're labelled by the latter as "anti-enforcer", and a whole load of straw-men and tenuous arguments are invented to incessantly keep the argument ongoing. Alas, May can play 80 games this season and every win with him in the line-up will be constantly crowed over by certain members, and every loss without him in the line-up will be constantly raked over the coals by the same members.

This has been my arugment the whole time and too many people look at me or other like me as anti-fighting because Iw ould rather have a non-fighter who can play rather than Aaron Downey. And all the people who said the Wings should have kept him and yet don't wonder why he couldn't even make it with the Coyotes? I like the May signing a lot. He can play that Dally Drake role and fight.
