Now that's a comment I can get behind. People do have different reasons for hating. Mine happen to have more to do with what actually happens on the ice versus what fans do. I could care less about fan bases. I don't have to live in those cities nor do I have to deal with those people. I might as well be ticked off at people in Delaware as to be pizzed at Hawk fans or Flyer fans for that matter.

And as for Flyers fans. It's been my understanding that some of the most obnoxious, rude and truculent fans on the planet reside in Philly. Never been there so can't speculate myself.

As for the Hawks uniforms. I love them. Always have. Much the same way I love the Habs red unis or the simple elegance of the Wings and Maple Leafs jerseys.

And yes, I admit it, I have a fondness for all things historical. That said, I have a special place in my heart for Original 6 teams and their history.

What have the Flyers ever done other than embarrass the sport and turn it into a sideshow spectacle that was the Broad Street Bullies? I love a good fistfight as much as the next guy. But they were ridiculous.

In any event, even if Hartnell was not in the picture, I could never root for Chris Pronger. As decent, nice, jovial and well spoken he is off the ice, the utter ******-baggery he's committed against the Wings during his career (and other teams) just prohibits me for rooting for him. It'd be like rooting for a team with Claude Lemeiux on it. Absolutely no way in hell i'm ever going to do that.

Pronger putting Homer's head into the glass deliberately

or

Patrick Kane allegedly popping a cabby in the face

as a Wings fan, which one do you think upsetted me more when it happened?

nuff said.

I am with you here.

I guess I am one of those odd-balls who likes to root for our divisional opponents, and the O-Six, in the post season, especially when the Wings are done. I can understand why we Detroit fans hated Colorado in the 90s and Anaheim now, but Chicago? For what? Some unwritten rule that we must hate our divisional rivals or we are traitors? To me, it seems a tad sheepish.

Teams like Chicago winning are good for the league, and ultimately, the Wings. It would be nice to see Detroit, Chicago, and St.Louis all contenders at the same time b/c there was nothing more boring than seeing the Wings be the only relevant team in the division. Okay, there was Nashville to some extent, but no one really cares about them.

This topic of conversation is getting WAY too personal.

You may not agree with people's decision to cheer for one team over the other in this series, but some of the posts here are getting out of hand. If you don't agree with another member's choice or reason in who they're cheering for, that's fine. But responding in the manner that I've seen the last few pages have been childish at the least, and bordering on the edge of breaking the Forum Rules at the worst.

Keep the discussions civil please. Either agree, or disagree, but at least give other members the common courtesy of respecting the decisions that they have made and move on.

I wonder how many Red Sox fans cheered for the Yankees last year in the World Series?

I bet none. Why should they? The Yankees won 26 rings during the 86 years the Redsox had to wait to win another.

When was the last time the Blackhawks did anything to the Redwings? 1992, when they swept us in the 2nd round? Hell, the Hawks have not done much to anyone in years and have not hoisted the Cup in 49 years.

What's to hate? Their jealous fans?

Hawks fans have every reason to hate the Wings. Their franchise has gotten the shaft for the better part of its 84 year history. Long before it was "Dollar Bill" running the franchise into the ground, it was the Norris family who treated the Blackhawks as nothing more than a farm team for their other team, a certain one donning a winged wheel.

I feel like a lot of people on this forums are 16 years old....

In any case, I think the Hawks have worked hard to get here, and though I really wish we would have met them again in the Conf Finals, it didn't turn out that way.

They are royally f***ed next year because of the financial situation they are in. So let them have their glory, if any year was their year to beat us, it was this year, so I'm not sure why everyone is all up in arms with hatred.

I wear my Wing's gear with pride everywhere I go in Chicago and very often I will get a random "BOOO WINGS SUCK"

Hell, even in the past few day's I've had a few people at work ask me how the Wings are doing this year, and when I tell them wtf are they talking about, they arent even in the playoffs anymore, they just snicker at me like they swept us in the playoffs this year or something.

Yes, it makes me mad, but i'm not mad at the Hawks, or their fans, I'm mad at ignorant people. I know plenty of Hawks fans who have much respect for the Wings, and as such I will represent them with pride.

Last year before the rivalry got really heated, before the Winter Classic, I went to a game where we were down and won the game in a shootout at the UC, some random guy I didn't know who was sitting by us bought me and my buddy a beer at the bar after the game. They aren't all a bunch of 16 year olds spewing hatred just for s***s and giggles.

Maybe I'm biased for Living in Chicago, but go Hawks, this is the closest they'll get for awhile.

edit: to be clear here, I was born and raised in Michigan, and have only recently moved to Chicago. I bleed Red and White.

You guys do realize that Hawks fans despise the Wings more than any other team. I doubt they've rooted for us in any of our SCF matchups. Why should we root for them? What the hell kind of fans root for their rivals, who hate them in return and say "Red Wings Suck" at every game, even when we're not playing?

And who cares about Pronger already? You hate him more than our biggest rivals in the Conference?

And I say there's plenty of despicable Hawks players. Kane, Bufflin, Kopecky, Hossa, Campbell, Eager. I hate these rejects just as much as the Flyers cast of a-holes.

You've got a real problem buddy. Maybe you should stop watching hockey altogether for crying out loud.

Best.

I started following hockey after my Dad made me watch a game in the '95 Finals. To this point, the Hawks have been almost completely irrelevant. The rivalry really flamed out until the Hawks recent resurgence and I can respect them for being a good team. What I'm getting at is that I never grew up with the Hawks as our hated rivals, I grew up with them as a team that we shared a division with who had nice jerseys and would, at times, have some good games with.

Kane seems like a turdball, we all know it, but he's also young and dumb (see also: Brendan Smith). I respect Toews, Keith, and Seabrook; and I still like Hossa and am pulling for him to finally get that Cup.

If you have to call me stupid or insult me in some fashion then okay, I guess. I'm sure I'm not the only one who shares the same view of the 'Hawks. If anyone's getting riled up about them getting support on here, then just take a peak at this and ease your mind.

I guess every person can find a different thing to piss them off as far as players on a different team.

Kane - Punched an old cabdriver. Annoying mouthgard. Looks like some little midget twink.

Bufflin - Fat Albert. Acts tough but hardly fights. Backs away a lot for a guy that size. Has cheap shots. Celebrates disrespectfully like a dumb clown.

Hossa - Traitor. Did s*** for us during that one night stand.

Kopecky - See above.

Sharp - Speared Lidstrom in the nuts. No I don't care that it was supposedly an accident.

Campbell - Ginger boy who's overpaid. Spouted off about the Kronwall hit, despite having a similar one in the playoffs several years back.

Ladd - Don't like his face. Looks like a psycho who kills people. May have DT's.

Eager - Wannabee enforcer. Don't they call charging or boarding anymore in the NHL?

So you hate Kane's mouthguard, you hate Buffs celebrations disrespecting CANUCKS fans (hello?) who make it a point to keep disrespecting him, you hate Hossa because he didnt do enough to win Detroit the cup last year, (Umm Datsyuk etc), hate Campbell because he is overpaid (why do you care?), Sharp because of an accident in which he called Lidstrom to apologize, you dont like Ladds face (how abou Franzen?), and Eager is a wannabee enforcer who hasnt boarded or charged anyone yet sparks his team with hits and goals on occasion???

Seems like an immature teenagers list of excuses for not liking the other team.

I know some people here just hate the fact that Detroit beating the hawks last year has turned out to be the best thing to ever happen to them. They all say that to a man, but cmon. Its ok to hate the other team or certain players (Kane, cabby, OK FINE), but the rest of your excuses to hate them really sounds childish.

I just hate the uniform more than the players wearing it. With Chicago, I hate both. I don't have a problem with the Flyers fanbase as much as Chicago's. With the players, I slightly hate the Hawks players more.

This has to be a tongue-in-cheek post, right? If not, holy effin crybabies Batman. That is some of the most childish reasoning I think i've ever seen. I mean, that's the kind of stuff 12 year olds base their likes and dislikes on. The way people look? Really?

Byfuglein- Show me the cheapshots? Aside from wildly hacking at Andy McDonald, the guy plays a very straight up game. Cheap shots my ass. You don't know what you're talking about. He's a big guy yes, but he's also a guy who can play power forward AND defense, has great hands, can score 15-20 goals and is showing up big time in the playoffs. IMO, he should've been on Team USA. As for his celebrations, they're nothing compared to AO. I'd love to have Buff on the Wings. He's exactly the player they need. And he never shies away from a confrontation. He has more fights than anybody in a Wings sweater these days.

Hossa - Traitor? Really? Because he came here as a free agent for 1 season? You're as big a freaking baby as those Pens fans who cried the same thing. Whaaa, whaaaa!

Sharp - so basically you don't care that it was an accident and that he apologized to Lidstrom. I guess you must hate every player who ever laid a hand on Lidstrom. Maybe Lids should get to wear a special jersey like a quarterback in practice so everyone knows he's not allowed to be touched. Give me a break. It was an accident. Aside from that Sharp hasn't done anything to anyone. He's just a good, skill player.

Kane - I'll admit, I love him because he's a US kid. You cannot deny the talent either. For his smallish size, he's just fantastic and far, far better along the boards than somebody his size should be. The whole cab driver incident seems to be shrouded in some he said, she said but I hardly think it puts him in Sidney Crosby territory the way you're hating on the guy.

Kopecky - seriously? You might as well hate Brent Sopel too. He had about as much impact in a Wings sweater as Kopy did. I guess you hate Shanahan and Fedorov too for leaving.

Ladd - pretty much tougher than anyone on the Wings. And you don't like him b/c he looks odd. Who are you, freaking Brad Pitt or something. Show us a pic of yourself Mr. God's gift to women. Puh-leeze.

Campbell - This is another player who has never done anything to warrant hate. Sure, he's overpaid. I guess that's enough reason to hate him like a jilted little girl.

Eager - For a guy who says he loves rough stuff, Eager should be a dream come true for you if he were on the Wings. A 4th liner who can ACTUALLY SKATE and contribute!!!! let's see here, he's fought Janssen, Ivanans, Rypien, Murray, Jackman, Stortini, Rupp, Boll, Lucic, Parros, etc....Yeah, what a "wannabe".

My respect meter for you is hovering perilously close to zero right now.

I know.

I hate about 15 players on these two teams. However, it's hard to hate the Flyers as much as the Hawks and their annoying fans. I haven't had to deal with Flyers fans, them being in a different conference.

Their fans are bandwagoner retards who don't deserve a Cup. At least Flyers fans have been loyal to their team for a long time, even when they finished last a few years back.

When the Wings have a few difficult seasons, I bet you will see the fan population drop off significantly as well. I have a friend who goes to 20+ Tampa Bay Lightning games per year. He has told me being a fan of the team is much more enjoyable today now that they have been out of the playoff picture. All the bandwagoners are gone and the arena is only half full at best, but the fans that go to the games down there are not only Lightning fans, but true hockey fans.

I really hope Detroit can stay near the top of the league for a long time to come, but if there is a silver lining to the Wings having a couple bad seasons, its losing the bandwagon fans.

I have watched both games and they have both been entertaining. I am rooting for both teams in a sense. Would be great to see Chicago win it because Hossa would get a cup, and odds are I would see the cup on one of my trips down there this year. Would be great to see Philly win it because of the underdog factor, and the fact that I like the story around Leighton in net.

Those things being said, Niemi stole game 2. He played very well and deserved the win. The Hawks as a team played much better in game 2 than they did in game 1. Philly has to win game 3 and 4 or this series is over. Yes, they came back from 3-0 to win this year, but I don't think they have it in them twice in the same playoff year.

Not only do I not get the Hawks love, but I don't get the Flyers hate either.

Other than Pronger, how many Flyers players have ever done anything dirty to the Wings players?

Yup, I agree.

I am not a Pronger fan, but I respect him thats for sure. He plays a style of hockey that has brought him a long list of accolades. You have to at least respect him for that.

I'm sorry - you must be suffering from short-term memory loss. Remember the Homer sandwich made by Pronger and Niedermyer? Here's a list of his suspensions: DB. And Pronger is one of the most hated by fans universally. And no, it's not a "until he's on my team" hatred. There's a reason for that.

I must seriously be the only Wings fan (perhaps any fan other than a Hawk) that actually likes Kane.

This has gotta be where it's at. Because we're fans we have a tendency to get a wee bit rabid sometimes and yeah, we have either personal experiences or maybe irrational dislikes about not only teams, but their fans too. So what? HOW can we possibly take that as personal insults and go on the attack? HUH? Peace out.

As much as I dislike the Flyers and pretty much all of the fans that come along with Philadelphia teams, I absolutely cannot root for the Blackhawks knowing how much s*** their fans talk about Detroit and the Wings, pretty much 24/7 even when they're not playing each other. Here's hoping for a Flyers comeback.

I cannot stand the thought of Hawks winning this series. The legion of Hawk bandwagoners is already at capacity. Even their own fans are admitting it to me.

It may have already been said but the Flyers could potentially assist in helping two 40+ years of Cup droughts. 1 for the good guys and the other, well, ranting.gif just flat out hate the Hawks. The bandwagon thing is so real too. As it has been said before the Hawks have been pretty close irrelevant over the years and all of a sudden its just mad love throughout the city. "Detroit Sucks" instead of cheering on the team you "love"? Surrrre. Jealousy comes out in many many ways.

Oh look, another internet tough guy who likes to insult posters while hiding behind a computer screen.

Pot, meet Kettle.

I've got a news flash: The Wings will not win the Cup this year. Someone else will win it.

Since the Wings are no longer in the playoffs, it is not a matter of being a traitor to root for another team.

If the Wings were still in it and someone said, "Oh, what the heck, orange is just so darn festive. I'll go root for Philly." then I would call that person a traitor.

As it is, we are now picking through the leftovers. The buffet is empty except for some crusty tuna salad and some wilted lettuce. I'm going for the tuna salad. Just because you don't trust old tuna is no reason to say that your saggy leaf is superior.

We can pull for whomever we want at this point in the season.

I have my reasons; you have yours. See my sig.

Go Hawks.

Hey, I haven't cussed anyone out in this thread. I just questioned the sanity of some posters who root for the Hawks. That's not against forum rules last I checked.

Don't know how you can call me a kettle for responding to that poster.

Good to see I still have so many haters on this forum. I was beginning to get a little worried there.

You might remember Scott Hartnell's dirty knee-on-knee hit to Jiri Fischer that basically stole two seasons from him.

I don't really hate Leino but it is very annoying how he was the absolute worst Red Wing on the team for months and months and then out of nowhere becomes this playoff dynamo once he leaves. But sometimes that's just how that goes.

No, all I remember is Fischer TKO'ing Hartnell.

Leino and Kopecky cancel each other out for me.
